[WRP] - A view from Parliament - Issue 7

Day 1,852, 04:40 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Huey George

Preamble

It has been an eventful, last four days, so time for the next instalment of “A view from Parliament”. This will update you on six (yes six!) law proposals. I’ll finish with a link to the latest going ons in the MoFA encase you haven’t seen the UK Foreign Office’s latest article and provide you some of my insight.

Law proposals

The 6 law proposals are;

Germany has been proposed as Natural Enemy.

I voted NO. This was because, the congress member who proposed this, hadn’t discuss this with any other congress members or the country president or the CP's cabinet. Attacking Germany without obtaining support from allies would have been a mistake. We also have a cordial relationship with them and there is no good reason to damage that.

The voted ended;
7 YES votes and 27 NO votes in the UK

As a response Germany proposed a counter NE law proposal which ended;
12 YES votes and 24 NO votes

Thankfully both Congresses acting quickly and wisely to this rogue proposal.

The next was;

Income tax change from 5% to 1%.

I voted YES, This was because I believed this proposal would have led to a UK which would have been stronger with a more independent citizenship

The voted ended;
11 YES votes and 23 NO votes in the UK.

This was the first time I voted on the “losing” side of the debate. I stand by my vote however I respect and welcome the democratic process, it was well discussed and our elected congress members acted based on their own conscience in what they felt would be in the best interest and the will of the average UK citizen. So we must take it as the will of the people.

A typical friendly UK congress debate...(joking of course it's a great atmosphere in Congress(Parliament))

The Next was;

President of Bulgaria proposed a mutual protection pact with United Kingdom

I voted YES, This was because Bulgaria is among the UK’s most powerful and helpful allies, long may our friendship continue. Our existing MPP with Bulgaria has allowed our citizens opportunities at times to fight in their wars to gain experience whilst supporting allies and improving our new world reputation

The voted ended;
34 YES votes and 2 NO votes in the UK
25 YES votes and 1 NO votes in Bulgaria

Next;

President of Hungary proposed a mutual protection pact with United Kingdom

I voted YES, This was because, again like Bulgaria, Hungary is among the UK’s most powerful and helpful allies, again long may our friendship continue. Additionally we are in the “TWO” alliance together. Our existing MPP with Hungary again has allowed our citizens opportunities at times to fight in their wars to gain experience whilst supporting allies and improving our new world reputation

The voted ended;
34 YES votes and 2 NO votes in the UK
35 YES votes and 2 NO votes in Hungary

The next is still on going with an hour or so left to run;

President of Spain proposed a mutual protection pact with United Kingdom

I have already voted YES, This was because, again like Bulgaria and Hungary, Spain is among the UK’s most powerful and helpful allies, once again long may our friendship continue. Additionally, like Hungary we are in the “TWO” alliance together. Our existing MPP with Spain again has allowed our citizens opportunities at times to fight in their wars to gain experience whilst supporting allies and improving our new world reputation

Currently the vote stands (03.52 Day 1,852 of the New World);
32 YES votes to 1 NO vote in the UK
33 YES votes to 3 NO votes in Spain

Finally the last law proposal, this one again still outstanding;

Canada has been proposed as Natural Enemy.

I have already voted NO. This was because, the congress member who proposed this, again hadn't discuss this with any other congress members or the country president or the CP's cabinet.

Currently the vote stands (03.52 Day 1,852 of the New World);
6 YES votes to 24 NO vote in the UK

Now Canada has proposed the UK as a natural enemy law proposal.

Currently the vote stands (03.52 Day 1,852 of the New World);
20 YES votes to 8 NO vote in Canada.

However it is not something to worry about see below for an explanation;

As always I welcome the view of my constituents on any of the law proposals above or thoughts below. Please feel free to comment or personal message me.

MoFA and TWO

The UK are going to support our allies Spain in their conflict with Portugal. This first requires the loan of Canada’s Newfoundland hence the Canadian Natural Enemy proposal above. For full details read this Foreign Office article.

Personally I think it's great that the UK has an early opportunity to show how much of a valuable ally we can be for our fellow members in the newly formed "TWO" alliance. We must try to unit as a nation in what will be interesting however sometime challenging time ahead.

Finally the proposed NAP with our neighbours across the Irish Sea. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore what could be a valuable European friendship. Despite past difficulties in our relationship a NAP will benefit both the UK and Ireland in I'm sure.

Closing thoughts

It's an exciting Party President election day. I wish the best of luck to all candidates running for the UK various political parties especially myheadstone and Warmaster Horus Lupercal running for the presidency of my own Workers' Rights Party. Both fantastic candidates.

The politics of the UK is very lively at the moment and we've got a strong set of party leaders to thank for it, so long may it continue.
