Professor Evil
Hello, new player! Welcome to eRepublik. By now, you may be wondering about how democracy works in the game, and that's great. You may not be able to join a party yet, but no one here is ageist, and if you want to jump into the political community, go ahead!
With that in mind, I bet the most pressing question you'll be asking yourself is, who do I join? There are over twenty parties in the eUK, some very small, some colossal. Who you eventually join shouldn't just reflect your political opinions, they should reflect how you want to play the game. Your first instinct may be to see who's the most popular party, whether it's down to who has the CP, members or congress seats. Most people have an innate desire to be on the winning team. But those who join, say, TUP or the UKPP may find themselves sidelined by the sheer number of people in the party. Even if you're active on the forums and IRC, it can be difficult to get into the inner circle. Even if you do, advancement will be hard, with many different players vying for any opportunity or responsibility going.
And what's the alternative? There are many smaller parties of ten or less members, and some with one or two. Being a member of these parties is a wholly different experience than being a member of one of the top three, because it's easy to get the direct ear of the PP and advance yourself. Dedicated members that can get both votes and members are an absolute godsend for smaller parties, and if the party does become prominent, you'll be one of the most senior members. However, the problem with smaller parties is that there are those that go from small to huge, and there are those that start small and stay there, eventually shutting up shop because the PP just couldn't take the boredom anymore. The latter group vastly outweighs the former, meaning that the once-loyal players have to effectively start again.
So what's the solution? Where can you join a party that's more than large enough to make it and ensure a lasting future for its members but isn't so full of people that any initiative is stifled? Well, I'm glad you asked.
One of the oldest and experienced parties in the eUK, the UK Reform Party is a haven for new members. You can expect many things from us, including (but not limited to):
- A welcoming community: With an active IRC and a forum filled with fun chats, interesting policy discussions and cheeky banter, you'll feel very much at home.
- Lots of opportunity: Once the most prominent parties in the eUK and once again on the rise, the UKRP is expanding its operations. We look for commitment and enthusiasm over experience, and there is no nepotism.
- A chance to learn: With some of the most sage-like (not meaning SageGoku) players in the party, you'll get great experience of the game and how to get the most out of it.
We in the UKRP are confident that new players that join us will thrive. We don't need to bribe people to join us like other parties, but your fellow party members will be more than happy to help with whatever you need.
Join the party, get in touch with us on the forums and IRC, and you won't regret it!

In New Era there's not an inner circle. Everyone can be Congressmen or whatever he likes, he'll have to write articles or do something to reach such position.
Being in WRP , for example, doesn't hamper getting positions. New Era supports them, for example. ESO sometimes. TUP... never. UKPP also supports them.
Didya hear that, folks? Gender bias!
Kidding. You've got to admit though, the sheer number of people must make it difficult for new people to get party positions. I'm not just talking about congress seats, but positions of responsibility.
being PP of New Era is difficult, even for me. But all the rest is open to ANYONE.
It's not extremely difficult to get a political position in a party,It's not easy, but I wouldn't say it's that difficult either.
Great article ^__^
Darkace: Cheers! 🙂
FightandProduce: it's the level of competition for these positions that I mean, not just the inherent difficulty of getting the PP's confidence.
Alphabethis: Fair enough, but when your pools are filled with highly talented anyones, all but one of them will be disappointed. That's why I refer to competition. There's competition for roles within any party of course, but it's intensified at the top.
Voted and re-subscribed : 3
excellent article
Re-subscribed? Ooh, you traitor! Hehe
Thanks Minecrafting 😄
Voted, I wholeheartedly agree with this bit of advice you've offered new citizens. "Who you eventually join shouldn't just reflect your political opinions, they should reflect how you want to play the game."
'In New Era there's not an inner circle.'
lol'd this when Dr Hugh informed BA that the NE council had chosen to back him...
also, anyone can become a Congress member: true for all parties in the top 5, and for a good number NOT in the top 5.
anyone can talk with Don or Goku or Sir Winston ( ex-King Hannibal) . As far as I know, such council doesn't exist. It's true there're some guys who talk with the other guys from other parties. But it's not anything official, restrictive or secretive.

Being in a smaller party also has the advantage of learning the political side at your own pace. With any party though you just have to be active and communicate, there are different things to learn you just have to figure out what suits you best and focus on that. Oh and read informative articles and comments, just like this article.
Huey George: Thanks! This is something I firmly believe.
Bohemon😛 I agree, but congress seats aren't the be-all and end-all of party participation. There's positions of responsibility that are highly contested.
JRM: Cheers o/
myheadstone: Thanks! I definitely agree about small parties, but the problem is, if they go belly-up (many do) the members often find themselves having to start again.
