Dear fellow citizens,
As you know our country is being assaulted by a Hungarian vigilante by the name of Silent Bob. By my tally, he and his grunts have taken 16 of 32 seats in yesterday's Congress elections.
In a vivid demonstration of his destructive agenda, Silent Bob immediately abused his new power to strike down one of our ongoing law proposals.
Moreover, one of Silent Bob's multis just posted an article detailing their wicked plan: to amputate Austria's high-grain region, our only natural resource, and to donate it to his home country. Be sure to also read the comments posted under this article: the next item on their agenda is to steal the Austrian Presidency.
Austria now faces a very difficult choice: life in bondage under Silent Bob's dictatorship or freedom in a union with our friendly neighbor to the North, Germany. Once the Hungarian threat became evident I immediately picked up negotiations with Isy, the German President. I can report to you that he has displayed great sensitivity for our precarious situation. Although any offer remains conditional upon German Congressional approval, the German negotiators have proposed very favorable terms for a union between our two countries. The contract for establishing this union is being drafted as I write this and shall soon be published on this newspaper for your review.
In considering this possibility, please bear in mind that this is hardly the first time someone has attempted to take over our country. Due to its small size Austria is a perennial take-over target. Only the union with Germany can afford us the political and military protection we so desperately require.
Some of you may wonder if we aren't exchanging freedom for security. However, let me assure you that this would not be the case. We shall be fully and fairly represented in Congress. Our citizens shall have every opportunity to participate in the union's social, political, military, and economic life. Moreover, this union shall be fully reversible, which should go a long way in alleviating the fears and hesitations some of you may harbor.
Dear citizens, please use this opportunity to voice your opinion on a potential union with Germany. Your response to this article will help determine our future course of action in this matter.
Do not be misled, however: action is now imperative. We can no longer afford to wait for "another solution", as some have advocated in the past. If we do not act now, Silent Bob will act for us.

I have a proposal. If Austria and Germany want to unite fine. Do it! Sign an MPP with Hungary, and make a timetable for the battles.
Each battle will start at 5:00 eRep time and will end next day 4:00 eRep time when the Austrian president will retreat troops.
This way people from Hungary will be able to fight 16 days, and the same will be for Germans and Austrians. It will be a good exercise for all.
I beleive we could agree on this.

Where are the Austrian people voicing their opinions? Why is this article is written in English? Last time I was in RL Vienna everyone spoke German there. For me it's better as I don't speak German. But it's funny to see a president addressing his people on a different language than the official.
I'm just curious, and I don't support Silent Bob actions.
Well I prefer Germany to the Hungarians, and the security they could provide us with would be useful, but it would pain me deeply to see our country dissapear for the map. In the end its not my choice. Do whatever you think is best.

This was our choice long time ago. Chicco is a german speaking guy (german is his native language), and he respects people that do not speak german but decided to live here. English is the best choice.
and, before you ask me what are my rights here, I tell you:
I'm an Emeritus member in Peace, former president of eAustria (for 3 times), former General of the austrian Army and former Foreign Affair Minister.

I remember a plan what you told us, Chicco: dividing the country between Germany and Austria. What was the reason for dropping this idea?
And why is Germany better? An anschluss again? Why not Italy?

In Hungary the second most popular foreign language is German, and I know people in other neighboring counties (e.g.: Croatia) who can speak German also (I work for a German company).
I respect your decision to choose English as Austria's official language. I only saw the Hungarian, Romanian, Iranian, Indonesian media before, and expected a lot of German articles, so when I saw the Austrian press it looked like no real Austrians live here.
I really don't like the idea of an austro-german merger. (This may be because I am a realworld Austrian too?)
To be honest: I didn't realize the graveness of the situation. I thought we were strong enough to fight such a plot.
I'm fairly new to eRep, but the way I see it is that we can suffer through this for one month and then turn the tide in the next elections.

seit tagen ... wochen ... versuche ich hier gegen die union-idee stimmung zu machen. hatte bisher nur zur folge, daß mir angeraten wurde die partei zu verlassen und ich nicht mehr im kongress bin.
ich habe vorschläge gemacht wie man die bestehende bevölkerung mehr in die innenpolitischen fragen einbinden könnte. wie man neue, loyale bürger ins land locken könnte.
meine idee individuelle verträge - von mir aus auch mit deutschland oder ungarn - mit anderen großen und kleinen ländern zu schließen um die wirtschaft zu stärken und österreichs souverenität zu erhalten, wurde ignoriert.
es ist reines wunschdenken, daß wir in einer union (schönsprech für anschluss) gleichberechtigte partner mit der anderen macht wären ... wir sind und bleiben zahlenmäßig unterlegen und wirtschaftlich unterentwickelt ...
ich bin ebenso der meinung, daß artikel die informieren sollen oder die bevölkerung zum aktiven mitbestimmen aufrufen sollen, in deutsch/englisch verfasst werden sollten.
das ist das einmaleins der politik ... den wähler dort abholen wo er steht ie. ihn in seiner sprache ansprechen und ihm die hemmschwelle nehmen sich in seiner sprache zu verständigen.
es soll sich jeder frei fühlen in deutsch oder englisch zu kommunizieren und die regierung sollte hier vorbildwirkung haben.

meiner meinung nach dieser 'union' mit deutschland ist nicht besser als ein TO für die ECHTE österreichischen... wer garantiert die möglichkeit es zurückzumachen? (die anschluss wurde ewig bleiben, wenn es an deutschland geliegt hatte) ich habe vormals gedacht, daß jeder in erepublik seine land frei sehen wollt... zur zeit ich bin nicht so sicher...
die ungarische TO ist ein anderes thema: das ist 'nur' für high grain, aber sie wollen am wenigstens nicht sagen, daß es ist für die österreichische leute... ehrliche gesagt eine interessante idee für 'allianz', aber...

Ich glaube nicht dass die österreichischer deutsch sprechen. Sie schreiben genauso aber sie sprechen für mich ganz anders.

einer zusammenarbeit mit deutschland, ungarn, schweiz, serbien, kroatien, slowenien, ..... whoever steht nichts im weg. allerdings soll und muß österreich selbstbestimmt bleiben. ein TO, egal ob durch einige separatisten oder von der österreichischen regierung eingeleitet und unterstützt ist der falsche weg!
deutsch ist ein wunderschön sprache, hass nichts in sie!! 🙂
(in switzerland die kinder lernen deutsch als fremdsprache... aber es ist eine dort 😉 )

@Revai: The reason we want to merge with Germany is mostly because of the language. I do not speak Italian. In eItaly very few articles are written in English, and I suppose that all of politics is in Italian. Therefore, I and many others could not participate in social and political life. And this is obviously a huge drawback. That would be the same as being conquered. Only a merger with Germany would be a merger of equals.
@Revai: Furthermore, although Germany has many German-speaking players the politics and the media landscape is mostly English or bilingual. Therefore, even non-German speaking Austrians could continue to play there.
@ProTech: Ich kann einfach nicht jeden Artikel in zwei Sprachen schreiben. Das habe ich fuers Wahlprogramm gemacht und ich hatte nicht den Eindruck, dass das wirklich einen Unterschied gemacht hat. Wenn ich die Zeit haette, wuerde ich es machen. Ich habe sie aber leider nicht momentan.

@Begun: Du weisst ganz genau, und ich habe dir das sehr detailliert erklaert, dass solche Vertraege in eRep nicht moeglich sind. Wie stellst du dir das konkret vor? Das wuerde mich echt mal interessieren. Schreib doch mal so einen Vertrag. Vielleicht kannst du uns ja ueberzeugen.
Diese staendigen RL-Referenzen wie "Anschluss" sind hier voellig deplaziert. Das ist ein Spiel und diese historischen Diffamierungen haben hier absolut nichts zu suchen. Du bist Serbin, soll ich jetzt mit den Balkankriegen anfangen?
@Christopherus: Ja, wir koennen die naechste Wahl gewinnen. Aber auf kurz oder lang gibt es den naechsten TO oder den naechsten korrupten Praesidenten, der Gold unterschlaegt. Das wird immer so weiter gehen. Bis vor kurzem hatte eRep 20.000 Spieler und Oesterreich hatte 300 Einwohner. Das waren 1.5%. Jetzt hat eRep 80.000 Spieler und Oesterreich 290 Einwohner. Das sind 0.36%.
Wir werden staendig weiter Macht verlieren und immer verwundbarer werden fuer TOs. Das sind einfach Tatsachen, die man sich nicht à la Begun wegfantasieren kann.
@Begun: Das ist naemlich genau das Problem, dass du "Stimmung gemacht hat", wie du selbst sagst. Das ist schlechter politischer Stil. Du haettest gerne deine Bedenken aeussern koennen, aber dass ich es nicht tolerieren kann, dass du meine Politik sabotierst, das ist doch wohl logisch! Dann musst du eben deine eigene Partei gruenden und deine eigene Politik verfolgen. Das ist doch ganz normal.
Abgesehen davon bist du nicht mehr im Kongress, weil du nicht kandidiert hast. Ich habe dich nicht und haette dich nicht davon abgehalten.
Ich habe dir zwei lange PMs gechrieben, in denen ich dir versucht habe zu erklaeren, warum ich die Union fuer den einzigen Ausweg halte. Du hast darauf nichts geantwortet. Das zeigt mir, dass du an keinem Diskurs interessiert bist.
As patriot of eAustria (Yes, even thou I'm not austrian in RL) I should say - no F* way!! But as realist and thinking person I don't see any other great opportunities. We could let Hungarians rape our country or we could "voluntary" join Germany. If there are any other possibilities I would be glad. I just don't see any other. Two ways to go and I am happy for now that I am not the one to make this choice. But for now I totally support Chicco!
Just an opinion: there's no need to take the hole country. If the Germans take the high grain region it'll be enough.
And how really it is going to be when half of country is part of germany and other half is not?
btw... good job congressmen for voting for donation. If you keep up this great unity, then probably there is a third way for eAustria to go.

As the Vice-President I agree with the great idea to merge with eGermany.
We know that Austrian can be taken by every Country any time. Romania stands at our doors. How long does it take until Romania want to attack us? I think its better to merge with eGermany and get more rights then under a occupation!
We need a solid Economy and nonviolent Political situation to raise our nation back on the top.
We are still Austrians!
