[Kevy] The part about Domestics.

Day 1,171, 16:34 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Kevy Kev Kev Junior shabado

Hello eUK.

I’d like to start of with a few thank yous. First of all thank you British Democratic Party and United British Democrats for supporting my campaign. Unfortunately, due to some technical issues, the British Democrat party are unable to support me in-game officially. However, as political partners, we are fully committed to making this political partnership an overwhelming success, and I fell duty bound to thank them immensely for their support and valuable contribution towards the development of my candidacy manifesto. But thanks must also go to the countless other parties who have helped developed and envision our goals and ideas to ensure that our manifesto was the best option for our nation for the upcoming month. And by working together, we have managed to pull it of; without their support and contribution, I cannot imagine having developed such a diverse and broad manifesto, and I look forward to working with our partners in the future if I ever decide to run again.

I would also like to stretch my thanks out to the people who have donated gold to the Bank of England so far. I think we’re already at 1/4th of the term target so it’s going amazingly so far. For those who do not know what I am talking about see this article.

Thatcher after seeing the gold donations

Now onto domestics. This is regarded as my strong point as I’ve been a two time MoHA in recent times. However; I still took the advice of many people in the “Public Discussion” part of the eUK forums on what they thought the MoHA should look like. Some ideas I liked; some I didn’t. In the end I think you’ll be happy with what I’m planning with the domestics Ministrys of this month. The main point taken from the public was that the MoHA should remerge with the MoComms to work effectively. After looking at the evidence I think this would be for the best as it would encourage more apprentices to work in the areas that were originally MoComm areas. I’ve also taken the advice of not using an underMinister for each department. I agree that this pretty much wastes potential talent and I’ve decided on trying out a Junior Minister system within Home affairs to help coordinate the different departments.

Ministry of Home Affairs

As mentioned above; the MoHA will be merging with the MoComms and instead of having underministers it will have Junior Ministers. As for the departments within the ministry they are as follows:

Culture

This is basically the “Fun and games” department of the ministry. We’ve seen many games ran over the last month or so and I’d like to continue this into the next term. However; I would like to use the popularity of the forum games to our advantage and try to reward creativity sparks to try and get people to help the eUK itself. Some things I’ve been suggested to introduce to the forum game section so far are “Post what you think our eUK banner should look like here” and “Post the weirdest place you’ve advertised erepublik”. On top of getting our citizens to think more; we might be able to use these things in the Ministry of Recruitment to step up our recruiting drive.

Not only that, but we also aim to increase the value of our prizes and create a more elaborate way of deciding who wins what. We shall step up the forum games, but also introduce off-forum games to do with both eRep and regular arcade games. A scoring system will be introduced and mini-tournaments held by the Department of Culture, who will invite people to enter as an individual or a team. Points will be awarded for success in all the games ran, and prizes handed out with celebrations towards the end of the term. For example, you could win 5 points for winning a forum game, 10 points for winning an arcade tournament and 15 for an eRep related task such as getting a Battle Hero medal in an important battle. (The points system will need to be calibrated at a later date).

Mentoring & Education

I’ve decided to keep mentoring on the list but I’ve changed the way we go about advertising it. Using the current ideas within the MoHA I have decided to rename this department the Buddy department. The people legible for this department will be the people who join the forums and say “hi!” and the people who join up on IRC. For the latter point; we can use our #erepublik-help channel to get quick updates to new citizens who don’t want to be forum active.

This is predominantly a retention and education tool, which is undergoing a proto-type under the current ministry.

Education is an important role in the domestic side of this game. That is why if I am elected I plan to update all of the domestic guides we’ve churned out over the last few months. I also mentioned above the index to be used within the Domestic orders so that people can find these articles easily once they go out of the media. As the game changes so often we need to make sure we have updated guides. PM campaigns will take place as usual, but focus on raising awareness of public orders, the army, and the ’buddy’ system.

Messaging would be somewhat reliant on the MoHA hub getting built. Once/If the MoHA Hub is built then the original Hub messaging system will be used for this department. Replys would be recorded onto a spreadsheet and people who reply get sent further information if needed.

Media & Wiki

The favourite department of many. I don’t want to do much tweaking with how the NNA is run apart from offering a GBP reward to the Prime Ministers article of the week to offer a little incentive to new players to write articles. Our media is currently quite dead so we need to try and find a way to get a few more potential Media Moguls publishing.

I’ve also decided to bring back the Domestic orders that were last used in Jamesw’s term. I think these worked very well advertising all of the government articles and information from the last few days. I would want to improve on it’s current structure to include the MoT mini reports I mentioned in my economics manifesto along with a little directory to all of the MoHA important guides.

Smaller tasks in the wiki department this month. If there is anything I've learnt putting too much pressure the minority of people who actually know how edit wiki pages will lead to a lack of work being done. As suggested by Woldy; this department would attempt to keep UK Portal up to date as a priority; and the rest would be up to request. Keram has suggested a charge for personal wiki pages; maybe 1-2 gold for citizen pages as it may help raise some money for the MoHA.

Gifting

During the Military/Foriegn Affairs manifesto I announced the return of the Free guns scheme briefly. Note that I did not mention many details on it despite guns being a military thing. The reason for this was because the scheme itself doesn’t really include many guns; it actually revolves around wellness most of the time. The reason I called it the free guns scheme was because it uses a similar system to the one the army used for free guns a few months ago; just with wellness. The actual amount of wellness to be gifted during this scheme hasn’t been finalized. If I win I will be speaking to my MoHA and MoF/T to sort out the actual details. In addition to free wellness I would also like to try and give our a few free guns to entice people to join the forums/IRC. I think if a new citizen joins up to the scheme and then gets offered a few free guns if they join the eUK military it might make them join.

Ministry of Recruitment

The Ministry of Recruitment is an integral Ministry in government, as the more players we have the more we can do in every area of erepublik, from the military module to the economy and beyond. To improve staff levels in the MoR I will encourage all MoHA applicants to also apply for the MoR. If and when we finally get a long awaited babyboom, we want to make sure to have great levels of retention. My way of ensuring we have solid foundation for this is by asking the MoR to begin a babyboom fund, which will comprise of mostly GBP, alongside some Gold and food, meaning we will have immediate resources allocated especially to a babyboom if one occurs. The fine details of the plan will be worked on by me, the MoF and the MoT. The ministry will also investigate various ways of advertising eRepublik, and one idea I would like them to focus on is getting publicity in a local newspaper or local news site. This shouldn’t be impossible to get and would provide a babyboom of sorts, albeit not huge but at least a start. One other thing I will look to implement is cooperation between the MoR and the FA team, which will hopefully give us an insight into what other countries do domestically, regarding babybooms and retention.
