Evening comrades.
Now recently there has been some "controversial" changes to the National forums. There have been some staff changes and not everybody is happy. Alice in particular is being a miserable little bunny so as an offer of peace I give you one ehug.

Now I am not going to discuss these changes here as to be honest none of you care about my opinion. The majority of you will have made you mind up about the necessity for a national forum and whether these changes are a positive step or not. I would like you to instead consider a separate part of the forums - Off Topic and the Private forums.

A lot of people do not use the forums these days as there is no need for them to. Very few parties and/or Military units require you to be active on the forums, and the simple fact is people can play the game quite happily and quite successfully (depends on your definition on what makes a "successful player" is though
😛) without ever going near the forums. Everything can be done in-game. Now over the coming weeks and months I'm sure you will see lots of convincing arguments to take in-game discussion back to the forums as we all strive to see it finally keel over and die. However the forums aren't just for boring elitistfags and bawwing circlejerks. It also a community with a thriving off-topic sections. I'd like to try and persuade you that if its only for these places alone that you should sign up to the euk forums.

Public Section
Off Topic Central - This was previously split up into separate sub-sections - forum games, brain zone, comedy stage & Art, Films/TV, Music and Books. A few months ago they were merged to create a monolith of a subforum. There are a lot of threads here including the disturing "Huate the Frerk do you look like?" where we finally see what our ghastly populace look like in real life.
Gaming, electronics and internet - Seeing how you all play erep, the majority of you must be gamers. Also includes a separate minecraft forum. I've been told as a non mcer myself that we have a thriving minecraft server. meh, never seen the appeal myself. >_>
Sports - It's a bit like this...

Private Section
You can request a private forum from the admins as long as you have 10 backers. The forum can be about anything, as long as it is legal and the admins are persuaded it should be added..

Non-erep related forums are great.
There is a lovely community if you go looking for it.

just don't see the point, why not use group messages?
I suppose it comes down to personal preference. Whilst group messaging is a lot more convenient and inclusive to those who don't know about the forums yet, they are also very restricted.
They auto-delete after x number of days, are restricted to only 30 days (although tbf you hardly ever get more than 30 people posting on a thread on the forums) and they are not transparent - only those who are in them can read them.
I also find them very aesthetically displeasing. : D
Because you can't talk to everyone in group messages. The forums are public and are able to viewed by anyone, those group messages are nice and inclusive : )

I completely agree
At WRP we will make all decisions based on in game interaction, as i think being at UKPP showed me that's the best way to involve as many players as possible
But at the same time, the forums are an excellent addition. i think the forums are one of the main reasons UKRP always stay in the top 5 without recruiting much as they have players who really enjoy it (as well as encouraging so many of them onto irc)
i hope we can learn from both styles 🙂. Which is why we've applied to get a private forum section of our own
