[EN/FR] On the French MTO's attempt : a coup story.

The eWorld is once again farmville, but last week, something got the attention of citizens all over the world. For those who missed it, France had its second attempted coup in 3 months, illustrating the schism that seems to be dividing French society. Seeing as a military take over requires one million currency to start, many believed that such wars would be a thing of the past. But the fact that one country has had two such wars in such a short space of time, is indicative of something that is worth discussing.

Who am I ?

Until recently, I was a french citizen who left the game, then started playing again last August when I took over a top 5 political party that I transformed with a French citizen called Blabla. I served as the President of France in March and was vice president within most of the french governments that followed after that. Thus, I think it is fair to say that I am someone who has been deeply involved in French politics. So while I will try to stay as neutral as possible, please bare in mind that I am not writing from the outside. I recently moved to the UK in order to help jamesnoob doing whatever, but that does not mean I have forgotten France, or wish it ill. I write this article in the hope that France can once again be that eCountry that I dedicate hours of my life to improving. I write this article in the hope that we can grow past our previous divisions.

The origin of the French schism.

At the end of November, France wiped Cyprus for a few days in order to help an ally (Slovenia) as well as using the attack to improve the participation of French citizens in one of Plato’s event. Some French players were playing as Cypriots at the time and were joined by more who wanted to support their friends. France was basically fighting France.



This event lead to the division of the active french community between the “Cypriots” and the “Others” (It should be clear that this division is a simplification of the situation to save time and space).

French politics since the schism

Since then the government (other than in December with a 2 clicker CP) was controlled by the “Others” with the “Cypriots” actively trolling and fighting against France and its allies. The opposition between the two sides was illustrated by the landslide victory in Februaty of Gibus (The Others) versus Noname (The Cypriots). The “Cypriots” then actively supported a failed coup attempt in February. They then started complaining that power was being held by a French oligarchy. Then came April.

The Cypriots won power.

On the fifth of April, Colonel Meow (mostly known as Gdgk) was elected. He was a wealthy french citizen who created a successful company which was in charge of investing french players money. He was respected from both aisles but was part of “the Cypriots” party. However he had up until that point stayed out of that division of our society. He opened his government up to both sides and actively encouraged everyone to get involved. But “the Others” were tired and stayed out of it. The “Cypriots” were finally back in power, and thanks to “the Others” stepping back they now had total control.

How would “The Others” act? Would they try to make the "Cypriots" pay by trolling and fighting against the government? Would they try to make the "other side" pay? Weirdly enough they took the high road and took part in the government's efforts to help our allies and to help disseminate the strikes that took place. The month was going smoothly and France finally looked somehow united. Then the CP organised a coup a few days prior to the election and broke everything .

The coup

Why did a well respected player start a coup? Mostly to have fun and share his wealth to French players through COs. In order to succeed he put on massive COs. However things did not go well.



The vast majority of French citizens were not supporting the coup and the CO (we are talking millions here) went to mostly enemies of France who rightfully came to take the money and for good measure, create some chaos in France. I would have done the same given the opportunity.

The key thing to note here, is that the vast majority of French damage was on the side of democracy, and against the coup. The vast majority of French players were also fighting for democracy, against the coup. So the loss of “the Cypriots” is not that they lost because “the others” tanked, even without the tanking, more French players fought for democracy than fought for the dictatorship. Much more money was spent for the dictatorship than for democracy, and yet it still lost - so that should show how strongly some French citizens felt about it. Money cannot buy everything even in erepublik.



The CP lost the election to a representative of “the Others”

The coup broke France’s communication toward its allies, showing to the world its divisions. The next governments will have a lot of work to fix everything that was broken by the coup.

Living in a total denial (or just trolling), the Cypriots are now trying to claim that the coup failed because of foreign interference arguing that the damages done by the democracy side was not representative of the people. On that topic, it should be noted that 10 french individuals fought for the dictatorship and 59 for the Democracy. I guess numbers don’t lie.

Far from following the “Others”’ exemple, the “Cypriots” went back to trolling and fighting against France’s interests as shown on round 13 (France is supposed to lose the battle…).

Today France is a mess and people need to take responsibility for what they have done and cooperate with the other side as done in April. Fighting for a common goal is easy when you are in charge but some players need to grow up and do the same when they don’t have the power. France would benefit greatly from that sign of maturity.

Finally, I would like to use this article to once again thank all of our allies who helped to fight against the dictatorship as well as the Brits for their warm welcome.

L’eMonde est encore une fois dans sa phase de farmville, mais la semaine dernière, un événement a attiré l’attention de tous les citoyens du monde. Pour ceux qui l’auraient loupé, la France a subi sa deuxième tentative de coup d’état en 3 mois, illustrant le schisme qui semble diviser la société française. En sachant qu’un coup d’état nécessité 1 million de CC pour être lancé, beaucoup pensaient qu’il n’y en aurait pas d’autres avant un moment. Mais le fait que notre pays ait connu deux fois de telles batailles en aussi peu de temps montre qu’il y a ici quelque chose qui mériterait une discussion.

Qui suis je?

Jusqu’à récemment, j’ai été un citoyen français qui a quitté le jeu, puis je suis revenu en août dernier en reprenant un parti du top 5 que j’ai refondé avec Blabla. J’ai servi en tant que Président français en Mars et j’ai été vice-président à de nombreuses reprises au sein de nombreux gouvernements durant les derniers mois. Je pense donc qu’il est logique de dire que je suis quelqu’un qui a été profondément impliqué au sein de la vie politique eFrançaise. Ainsi, tout en essayant d’être le plus neutre possible, vous devrez comprendre que ma vision ne pourra pas être celle d’un simple témoin de ces événements.

J’ai récemment migré en UK pour aider jamesnoob à faire dieu sait quoi, mais cela ne veut pas dire que j’ai oublié l’eFrance ou que je souhaite l’oublier. J’écris cet article dans l’espoir que la France redeviendra le pays pour lequel j’ai consacré tant d’heures de ma vie à améliorer et en espérant que nous arriverons à dépasser nos divisions.

L’origine du schisme :

A la fin du mois de novembre, la France a rasé Chypre durant quelques jours afin d’aider un allié (la Slovénie) et pour que tous les eFrançais puissent profiter de l’event qu’avait organisé Plato. Quelques joueurs français jouaient pour Chypre à ce moment là et furent rejoint par d’autres joueurs qui voulaient aider leurs amis. La France était grosso modo en train de combattre contre la France.



Cet événement a conduit à la division de la communauté française active entre les “Chypriotes” et les “Autres” (en sachant que cette dernière catégorie est une simplification de la situation pour nous faire gagner du temps et de l’espace).

La politique française depuis le schisme

Depuis lors, les gouvernements successifs sont aux mains des “autres” (hormis en décembre avec un CP 2 click) avec les “chypriotes” trollant et combattant activement contre la France et ses alliés. Cette opposition est illustré par la victoire sans appel en Février de Gibus (Les autres) contre Noname (les chypriotes). Les chypriotes ont participé activement à un coup d’état raté en février. Ils ont alors commencé à se plaindre que le pouvoir était aux mains d’une oligarchie française. Vint alors avril.

Les chypriotes au pouvoir

Le 5 avril, Colonel Meow (aka Gdgk) est élu. C’était un riche citoyen français qui détenait une société en charge de gérer l’épargne des joueurs français dans des investissements. Il était respecté de toute part mais pouvait être considéré comme un membre des “chypriotes”. Toutefois, il était resté en dehors de ce conflit divisant notre communauté. Il avait ouvert son gouvernement aux deux clans mais les “autres”, usés par le pouvoir, décidèrent de rester en dehors du gouvernement. Les chypriotes étaient alors de retour au pouvoir et, grâce aux “autres” qui se retiraient, ils avaient entièrement le contrôle des événements.

Comment les “autres” allaient-ils réagir ? Allaient-ils vouloir faire payer les chypriotes en trollant et en se battant contre le gouvernement ? Chercheraient-ils à faire payer le “clan adverse” ? Paradoxalement, ils ont pris le chemin inverse et prirent part dans les efforts du gouvernement pour aider nos alliés et aider à combattre contre les AS qui eurent lieu de toutes parts. Le mois s’écoulait calmement, la France semblait de nouveau apaisée et unie; jusqu’à ce que le Président décide d’organiser un coup d’état quelques jours avant les élections et ne casse tout.

Le coup d’état

Pourquoi est-ce qu’un joueur aussi respecté lancerait un coup d’état ? Essentiellement pour le fun et partager sa fortune avec les joueurs français au travers des COs. Pour cela, des COs massifs étaient mis en place, mais les choses ne se sont pas bien déroulés.



La grande majorité des citoyens français n’a pas supportés le coup d’état et les CO (nous parlons ici de plusieurs millions de CC) sont allés essentiellement dans les poches d’ennemis de l’eFrance qui sont venus prendre l’argent, créant le chaos dans le pays. J’aurais évidemment fait la même chose qu’eux dans un tel cas.

L’élément majeur ici, c’est que l’essentiel des dégâts français est allé du côté démocratique et donc, contre le coup d’état. Plus d’argent a été dépensé du côté de la dictature que du côté démocratique, pourtant, ils ont quand même perdu, ce qui montre bien le ressenti des français de ce coup d’état. L’argent ne peut pas tout acheter, même dans eRepublik.



Le CP a perdu les élections face à un représentant des “autres”.

Le coup d’état a cassé la communication de l’eFrance envers ses alliés, montrant ses divisions et ses fractures. Le prochain gouvernement aura fort à faire pour réparer tout ce qui aura été cassé par le coup d’état.

Vivant dans un total déni (ou juste pour le troll), les chypriotes essayent maintenant de nous convaincre que le coup d’état a été raté à cause de l’implication étrangère, arguant que les dégâts réalisés par le côté démocratie n’est pas représentatif du peuple. A ce propos, notons que 10 français se sont battus pour la dictature, quand 59 se sont battus pour la démocratie. Les chiffres, eux, ne mentent pas.

Bien loin de suivre l’exemple des “autres”, les “chypriotes” sont retournés dans le troll et se battent de nouveau contre les intérêts français, comme en témoigne le round 13 (la France est supposé perdre la bataille dans le cadre de la TW avec l’Italie).

Aujourd’hui, la France est dans une situation difficile et les principaux concernés doivent prendre leurs responsabilités et coopérer avec l’autre clan comme en avril. Se battre pour une cause commune est simple quand vous êtes aux affaires, mais certaines personnes ont besoin de grandir et faire de même quand ils n’ont pas le pouvoir. La France bénéficierait grandement d’une telle preuve de maturité.

Enfin, j’aimerais utiliser mon article pour remercier une fois encore nos alliés qui se sont battus à nos côtés contre la dictature et les anglais pour leur accueil chaleureux.
