[DemNL] Annual Christmas Lottery
Shawtyl0w
Dear readers,
Every year I try to organize some sort of lottery during the Christmas holidays. This year however is a special year. This year I do not host the lottery by my self. Although previously promoted as being DemNL lotteries this year is the first time it is lottery supported by the entire political party.
Rules for this years Christmas lottery are as followed.
We have 155 active citizens in the eNetherlands.
On the 24th, 25th and 26th A random number between 1 and 155 will be drawn.
The citizen with the country rank equal to the number that has been drawn will be asked to claim his/her reward by commenting below the article published to announce the winning number. Once this citizen has claimed the reward it shall be donated to his/her citizen account.
If the citizen does not claim the prize before the DC the next morning every citizen who commented below the article will be ranked 1 - XX. Again a random number will be drawn this time between 1 - XX. The winner will receive the prize of the citizen that originally won. In other words, Always comment below the articles!
Only eNL citizens can participate in this years Christmas lottery.
The prize pool this year consists of donations made by party members of Democratisch Nederland
30,000 NLG
12,500 Q4 Food
5,000 Q5 Food
600 Q7 Weapons

Hurray for DemNL lottery o/ !
Go DemNL!
3 drawings yet 4 prices?
Apart from that; Great to see this kind of activity boosting stuff!
The mentioned NLG, food and weapons can be combined / split up into as many prices as you'd want. As the price pool can still be increased (through extra donations of DemNL members), no definitive list of prices has been made yet.
As an example, you could split it into 5 prices, with clearly different values:
- 12500 Q4 food, 300 Q7 weapons and 20k cc
- 250 Q7 weapons
- 10k cc
- 5k Q5 food
- 50 Q7 weapons
Given the proposed setup, I assume we instead will have 3 prices that are much closer together in terms of their value/composition. The CC and Q7 weapons are easy to divide. And the food can also be divided equally in terms of health value.
That indeed seems the logical way. Although you will likely encounter a few problems/challenges with the current set-up;
- Drawing between number 1-155 or whatever the actual number of active citizens shown at that point will mean excluding newer players. New players have a rank that's higher than the number of active citizens. And although a dead player will not show a national ranking somehow rank-numbers end up higher than they should if the number of active players is correct. I guess those dead players still hold their spot in the ranking or something like that. So you potentially end up drawing numbers that are not belonging to an active player as well. Not a real issue due to the way not claiming a price is handled but slowing the process down. An example of a player with a higher number as rank would be this player who currently is ranked 206th; https://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/9464652 while we have 158 active citizens...
- If you make a price of large amounts of food you might end up being unable to send it to a new player due to lack of storage capacity.
I'm sure you guys can work out a solution but thought it best to mention it so you can give it a thought upfront 😉
Indeed djirtsdew that would be my suggestion.
@weekstrom thanks for the input, the goal is of course to ensure we give away the prizes to active members of the eNL community. Active by means of national rank also includes those who work in their companies and logout again. The link you send is a citizen account without a real (if i may call it that) username. By having to claim the reward we ensure the player that wins is actually playing the game and not just some random (possibly multi) account from soneone who will e-die after logging in twice.
I don't think we can call these citizen xxx players random. I estimate they come to the game via the app. Possibly using facebook or something to log-in. And they do count as active citizens and are listed in the weekly leaderboards. Some even communicate 😉
For players with such low rank an issue is that they could make a sprint to gain a few XP...
Perhaps we should define active as having done at least 1 kill in the previous week, so that we can use last week's weekly leaderboards? Weirdly by this definition eNL only has
less than 43 active players so far this week. This does however include https://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/9464706 and https://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/9464823
And last week there were less than 75 fighting players... Do we have over 100 active players who never fight?
Ton of countries has around half of population, which never (or very rarely, like once per month) fights, votes, joins a political party, comments, talks, etc. What is their motivation, I honestly do not know. But when you imagine one or two new citizen accounts are created per day here (and that seems reasonable number), it means of those 100 people you mentioned, 30-60 of them actually never bothered to play for longer than few minutes. before they left forever, so you cannot really count them as active citizens, even though the game does that for you.
And about these FB accounts with no name - I believe those do not count into number of citizens, until they pick a name or something (someone told me about this once, I already forgot most of it) - hence why their rank is lower than the size of active population.
Either way, good to give Shawtyl0w a heads up, so possible problems are avoided 😉 .
The numbers you use are very optimistic djirtsdew. That's caused by 2 causes; the fact the FD programm is active along with the high number of new (citizen xxxx) players likely due to the app going to beta stage.
That means activity the last couple of weeks is way higher.
If I look at earlier moments the average number of fighters from the 20 weeks before that (week 17-36) were 30 on the ground and 24 in the air. A lot of those being the same players so if we managed to score 35 active fighters it would have been a lot. And of those there are several only doing a few hits a week...
Sorry Janty, but citizen xxx players can have ranks fitting the active players number. For instance Citizen 89443141 https://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/9443141 has rank 102...
I was unclear in my statement - instead of "hence why their rank is lower than the size of active population." I should have written "hence why their rank CAN BE lower than the size of active population."
What actually constitutes the "active citizens" group is still unclear to me - for example, there are numerous examples of lvl1 citizens without "Dead Citizen" tag, who appear as alive accounts, but are not counted as them. While we have citizen xxx's with rank more than the number of active citizens... I wish that was ever clarified in some article or post.
Either way, as far as I can say, these citizens xxx started to appear in NL en masse during and after 11th birthday here (but the amount of active citizens remained roughly the same anyway) - so in 10 days or so, we can go through the first batch and see, how many of them survived. Until then, I am personally a bit skeptical about the whole thing.
@Weekstrom I realized they are very optimistic, hence the "less than", and later statement that there are roughly 100 non-fighting players (155-100=55, not 75). I haven't done the checks to determine the exact overlap between ground and air fighters though.
I concur with the statement of these XXX citizens not adding up to the 'citizens tally' on the country pages, most likely due to some de-sync between app accounts and the actual game. Back when the app was just launched and dozens of them joined, it didn't affect our 'population' one bit.
Fun stuff, we love it!
Nice initiative by our friends in DemNL \o/
Thanks Shawty, all who made the lottery happen
