17 august and it’s semnification

It represents the proclamation of independence on 17th August 1945, declared two days after Japan surrender to the Allies. The Netherland attempted to reclaim Indonesia as her own colony. This triggered the Indonesian Revolution that lasted about 5 years (1945 - 1949). The Netherland launched military aggression on Indonesia two times at 21th July 1947 and 18th December 1948. Finally Netherlands acknowledged Indonesian Independence on 27th December 1949 at Round-Table Conference in Den Haag.

Most popular legend

Nyi Roro Kidul - Indonesian goddess of the sea, she is known as the Queen of the Southern Sea (Indian Ocean) in Javanese and Sundanese mythology.

There are many stories and legends around Nyi Roro Kidul but I found a sundanese folktale that mentions about Dewi Kadita, the beautiful princess of the Pajajaran Kingdom, in West Java, who desperately fled to the Southern Sea after being struck by black magic. The black magic was casted by a witch under the order of a jealous rival in the palace, and caused the beautiful princess to suffer disgusting skin disease. She jumped into the violent waves of the Ocean where she finally cured and regain her beauty, and the spirits and demons crowned the girl as the legendary Spirit-Queen of the South Sea.

If it arose your curiosity , you can find more tales in from other sources or ask indonesian people to help you with more legends.
