Step 1: Humility (yet not humiliated)

”Non v’accorgete voi che noi siam vermi
nati a formar l’angelica farfalla,
che vola a la giustizia sanza schermi?

Di che l’animo vostro in alto galla,
poi siete quasi antomata in difetto,
sì come vermo in cui formazion falla?”

Purgatorio, Canto X

PostPartyPresidentPolling articles are the rage today, so I had to jump into the fray with my own thoughts…but not before surveying some of the juicier tidbits found.

mordakai8’s ~ “Faltered Vendetta: The Day After
~~Article Quote:
“I tried contacting Mia, OLloyd, and Killer2001 about these results in the hopes that they may share their opinions and feelings, however, as of late they have not replied. I will update this article once I receive replies.”
(My thoughts: Yes, I will be waiting on that, too.)

OLloy😛 "Blaming people is not the way. We are now in a position as a nation that our inability to work together has brought us to losing regions, regional bonuses, players, and the friendship and comorodery that once resided in eCanada. Today eCanada is just a shell of a place it once was. We need to find a way forward! Any suggestions?"

Wombatman25’s “The Logic of Collective Action
~~Fav. Article Quote:
“This is not a battle, it is not a campaign, it's not even a war. … This will not be over quickly, this will not be painless, ths will not be without effort.”

~~Fav. Article Comment:
Nosyt: “Hmmm, it sounds to me like you should focus on establishing the party before winning the election. Get a logo, publish some articles, set up a form and build the group, and try and make it unique. Just keep in mind that building a party from the ground up take a considerable amount of effort and time.

Wally Cleaver’s “[NWO] Well, That Was Anti-Climactic
~~Fav. Article Quote:
“If only votes in articles translated to votes at the polls.”

~~Fav. Article Comment:
Talon Karrde: “England Prevails!”

Sperry’s “His Own House
~~Fav. Article Quote:
“Players are a finite resource in eRepublik. They are less common than tanks and more valuable than gold. A player can be an honoured rival, a staunch supporter, or just a trusted friend. But they should not be a bitter foe. And if they are a foe, and if they are bitter, they should not make the same of me.”
(but really, you should read the WHOLE thing, and again if you already have)

~~Fav. Article Comment:
Ichsven: “I believe the Rolo issue is in hiatus and EPC and everyone shouting for him to go down a big black hole of shame or something is dwelling too much in the past. Shouldn't everyone just see the bigger picture about the other things that are bad right now and focus on fixing something that we CAN fix instead of fighting against each other on just one party, mainly, just one arrogant dude?”

We’re all a bit punch drunk after the Queen’s arrival on our shores yesterday.
Kiss the cod, dance a jig...party pooping successful on all fronts

There are some strong reflections scattered here are there across the articles and a lot more of the usual kidney-shots and assorted low blows that make up the chaff of what grinds the gears of eRep day in and day out. Despite this negativity, perhaps the contrast only sharpens the wisdom and wit found in other comments. It’s easier than wondering, “If everyone stepped it up one notch, would the ceiling be raised higher?” The cynic believes if everyone started being supportive that we’d have to stoop over due to the low headroom afforded in eRep. Much easier to buckle over from the body shots to one’s ePride and shuffle along, bent-over, from there onwards.

I’ll admit that my humility was tested during the last hours of the election after some personal effort only brought Mia a few more votes, which Isso1980 quickly outpaced. Perhaps thinking too much of myself that a V1 Top 5 media tactic would make a difference, though it was a fun way to end off a Sunday. The NPG movement wasn’t really my bandwagon to push to a win, anyhow, but my curiosity about what would come of it was mostly what skinned this cat. For me, it wasn’t really about railing against Norsefire and removing all its parties. I just wanted to see what Mia was really up to in the event that she had a party. Granted, this could have been better accomplished aiming for an inactive party with a small membership, so I hope that becomes a new aim, rather than playing into the Norsefire Tar-Baby tango and enlivening their game. Yet it is so tempting and entertaining to do when someone plays the tune to get the party rolling. I’ll have to learn to hold back and keep my toe-tapping in check.

Despite the stubbed toes and blistered heels of the following morning, I don’t believe Mia, Ardikus V2, Wombatman25, killer, or OLloyd, or those who shouted, voted, and supported them (like me) should feel all that humiliated for getting into the wrong groove on the bandstand.

Darkened Eyes/bruised egos matter little, if you can take a beating at the polls and keep on trippin' til another day.

Should they try for a repeat performance? Yes and no. The energy, yes. The coordination, no. Rather, go beyond ATO coordination and aim for some of the many goals suggested by readers/spectators in Wombatman25’s article. If building from scratch is too long a road, come together and join a party that already has a membership with similar aims or sentiment. Granted, not with the purpose of taking over this party, but to work with other like-minded players that will share your enthusiasm and sense of purpose. Heck, if you guys came to CPF and presented some compelling ideas that ‘synergised’ with some of the values already established with the Blue Moose, you’d be two steps ahead on that long 6-month road described by Nosyt.

That’s right…the 7Ps are where it’s at ~ colours inspired by Nosyt’s pies, I’m sure

Anti-Norsefire is going down the wrong road. Find a way to be pro-team, pro-development, and pro-kicking eUK out of eCanada. Promote the kind of gameplay and sentiment by presenting a method others can emulate...even if you have jagged heart of shattered clay bound in a tweed dinner jacket with puppy-hide elbow pads. That’s right. Sperry is not a nice guy deep down. In fact, he may hate you more than Rolo, Wally, and Muglack combined. But he plays the game in such a way that you can’t help liking him, even as he PTOs the nation with wisdom, patience, a platform of vision, and an iron fist of CYS. I don’t fear how the wind blows, yet I am concerned when the sun shines.

The tweed tyranny is frightening, I tell you. Why won’t anyone listen?

So what to learn after going over these trite fables and earnest bits of advice oiled down with a dose of mild humour? Not much except that getting high and mighty doesn’t have to happen over night, and perhaps should not, though the effort in that direction was a good sight to behold. I don’t care what fell or rose or failed to fall as Sperry rose to his throne of tyranny (more on that to come later, I am sure). It was a good bit of fun that cost some people a bit of humbleness, others a few rounds of tanks, and the rest of us…well, the winds will blow that trumpet when time comes. All I know is that no matter what rises or falls, each ruler needs a jester, and for that I am perfectly suited for survival, once I get Muglack out of my way (be warned, Fool). If Mia decides to fire up the generator once again, I’ll try to play a tune to make it all merry, as I find something to rhyme with Sperry.

ps. sending out a hello to the newest hit on my friend list: Isso1980. Thank you for the PM early this morning ~ we can work on how to get a mass-PM system set up for Redwood should you ask for any further tips. Glad we found something to talk about ~ making contact and learning names is often a good first step in dealing with a possession.
