(Yet Another) Plato Foundation Report (and an Update)
Adinushk
Dear Citizens,
Let us begin by apologizing for being late again with the weekly article. We will do better from now on, we promise. 🙂
Remember when we said that the rules of Plato Foundation are bound to change until we can come up with a “recipe” that works and is sustainable? This was something we had in mind since before we even announced the project because the Foundation was something new and we weren’t sure how it would turn out. Plans on paper never really work out exactly as planned, do they?
Well, it’s been over a year since then (I know, right?!?) and you would have thought we finally found a way to make it work smoothly and without any problems? Guess again. Along the time we changed the board members, we changed the way we handle things, we changed some of the rules but the issues we’re facing changed too. However, we’re not stopping, the show must go on. And we hope you’re enjoying this show.
The two major changes we’ve made this year have been the decision to keep the Board members on the project for more than just one month and the introduction of Cut grants.
The decision to have Board members stay on the project for more than a month came after a period in which the Plato Foundation has been dormant. Because finding Citizens willing to spend their time doing the work (there are quite a lot of duties that come with the Board Member title) was more difficult than anticipated, I talked to Mitte and we decided to give this a try. Since May, the Board has pretty much been in this form with a few exceptions and I think it’s been going better than before. However, we are always open to welcome new members so if you’d like to join us, drop us a line. At the moment we are discussing to have a new member join us. Stay tuned for the juicy details! 😛
The other major change in the mechanics of the Plato Foundation - or what I see as a major change - was the decision to introduce Cut Grants. They were announced at the end of August as an attempt to keep financing projects we believed in that had already been supported for over 3 months. Aside from that, we would always go over-budget in our attempt to help and fund as many viable projects as possible and we saw Cut Grants as a solution to our issue.
And boy, were we wrong.
Why? Because when you have the chance to help, you want to help as much as possible and the way you see things changes. From being excited to fund new projects, we became worried that the projects we funded for two, three or more months have no external funding and are bound to end without our support. And that’s how we pretty much stopped pulling our support from any project. We extended all projects for as long as possible while at the same time we kept taking in new projects, without necessarily realizing we’re down a slippery slope that has no natural ending. It was only two weeks ago when we realized we can’t continue this was - we have neither the funds nor the man-power to support this system and no supplements will help if we continue in this rhythm. Thus, we are sad to announce that no new Cut Grants will be offered starting with this week.
What does this mean?
We will still continue to accept as many projects as we can support, but this within the boundaries of our resources. Projects renewals will still occur but we will most likely not support any project for more than two-three months. Does this mean we’ve reached a final form and nothing will change from now on? No. But we will try to be more careful with the changes we make and have a more realistic view on what we can and cannot do. Will we succeed? We hope so.
Starting next week, we will have a different format for our weekly articles and possibly some new (and fun!) announcements for you.
Until then, I’ll leave you with the weekly list of projects and the funds they were granted.
Thanks for taking the time to read our report! > 😃
The proposed projects are:
After some debates, the Korean Air Force was not awarded a grant in its current form. We’ll be open to revote on the project after modifications are brought to the project.

This is uncanny xD Just earlier today I shared this with friends: https://coolori.ro/produse/tricou-unicorn-dance/
Maybe I should get it xD
Nice read. Hope so Plato foundation will persist in challanges that are about to come in the future!
So basically you created a useless feature that has a total prize pool of less than a 100Euro package. This program hasn't done anything but mimic some artificial activity in a dead game. And let's not forget the cool badges that friends of friends get in their profiles.
I know it sucks to be the one throwing stones here, and I should come up with something positive, and helpful.
But wait. I did. Many years ago, and many suggestions. And all your little friends wanted was to take the game here, where only they play and have all the medals/resources 🙂 Everyone else quit, of course, because you didn't listen back then.
Am uitat sa adaug ca si articolul asta, desi e relevant despre eRepublik, e la acelasi nivel cu "umplutura ieftina" care caracterizeaza presa in ultimii ani
And as usual your only contribution in this game is being toxic and spreading hate. Nothing positive, nothing useful, nothing constructive, just the same paranoid asshole going strong. You're a real pillar of society, I have no idea what we would do without you.
Only want to add that this is still a project from the community for the community. It doesn't run itself it needs dedicated players and a community willing to think about how and what they can do for the citizens.
Also want to say if you work together weeks, months, years yes you become friends!
Good report. While it might be not 100% perfect (nothing is, really), I believe Plato Foundation is an important part of community in this game, and I hope it will continue performing well 🙂 .

So, if I get this correctly, there will be no more Cut Grants, and the Grants for each project will remain the same until you won't be able to support it, and thus stop supporting it?
Very nice explanatory article, it says a lot about what's going on with the Plato Foundation project (I see that more as project rather than feature ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
I also believe it was a great idea to extend the Board Members term. Imo it should be done from the very beginning, but I get it that it was pretty much a test period to see how the monthly changes will go.
>However, we are always open to welcome new members so if you’d like to join us, drop us a line.
Here's the line. 😛 I know I'm not that great, I still have like 2-3 months I believe before I start my military service 😛
