165: PEACE Media Mogul Programme is Back!
Dear Citizens of the United Kingdom,
The PEACE Global Community has been fighting the good fight around the world; from protecting nations against foreign crimes and PTO's, to taking the fight to the aggressors. This, as you know, is not cheap, as there are many battles to be fought, and very few can not be seen as urgent. This is why, many months ago, the PEACE Global Community began the PEACE Media Mogul system. Here's a brief synopsis of how this system works:
-You (or someone else) make (or have already) a newspaper.
-You volunteer for the PEACE MM system.
-You subscribe to the newspapers listed by the PMMS.
-Others subscribe to your newspaper.
-When you hit 1000 subscribers and get you Media Mogul Medal, you donate the 5 gold you got from it to PEACE GC.
It really is that simple. You get a nice, shiny, Media Mogul trophy for your profile, and the PEACE Global Community gets more money to help defend its interests. With hundreds upon hundreds of volunteers already subscribing to newspapers around the world, the PMMS has generated literally hundreds of gold to help fight in wars from the North American Invasion to the conflicts in Europe, and we can continue to do so. All we need is more volunteers and support.
If you have a newspaper, please submit it to the PMMS representative of your country.
If you have a bit of free time on your hands, go ahead and subscribe to as many of the PMMS newspapers listed as you can. Remember, orgs can subscribe too!
If you want to help even more, shout this article, and link to it in your newspaper, or in closing to PMs you send to your friends. The more people who participate, the more gold we generate!

Issue 164: PM Candidates that didn't run for office (1)

We've seen many Prime Minister elections in eUK, some of which have had candidates which pulled out for several reasons, such as strategy, personal issues, being hit by a bus, being blasted into oblivion by a nuclear bomb, or just chickened out of running for the role. As I had nothing better to do, I made a short analysis of each of them. Here is the first part in the 3-part series of "PM Candidates that didn't run for office".
Aelar Vardamir Anari Eneibari - November 2009

Profile: http://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/1532796
One of the few outsider candidates in a long time which actually stood a chance, probably since HazzN ran in March. A relative newcomer, he's matured quite a lot considering his e-age. His two terms as congressman have been quite successful. His main criticism centred around his lack of exprience in ministerial roles. Despite this, both his fans and his critics agree on one thing: he is a talented individual who has a long and promising career ahead of him. He retired his candidacy in order to back Altmer Vampire. Aelar strong candidate to look out for in future elections. Rumours are that he beat two-term PM Hassan Pesaran with over 70% of the vote in the FDP primary, so he's got the beef, but has he got the steak to get into Number 10? Only time will tell...
Big Boy Bulley - February 2009

Profile: http://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/26193
An Erepublik Beta giant, and one of the original PCP commisars of the KIA Sneak soviet republic. One of eUK's most successful paratroopers and entertainers, he had a brilliant political career, both as congressman, party president and VP in the infamous FD presidency Mk. II. Dubbed as the "best Prime Minister that never was", he was liked by both friends and foes. A true eUK gentleman, he then moved to the Phillipines and is now enshrined as one of their Fathers of the Nation, helping them get on their feet with his own personal funds. He came very close to the ballot in February, but he eventually lost the primary to Final Destiny, and the rest is History.
Franciscoleite10 - July 2009

Profile: http://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/1357307
We first came across this guy at the end of June, when he was a few weeks old, shouting his head off that he wanted to run for Prime Minister. He kept asking about what he needed to do in order to run for office as an Independent candidate. He was never a serious candidate, but he has left a mark on eUK society which is still alive today. His main highlight was promising a Q7 Hospital in each region. Also, ver wondered why people "boat" for articles instead of voting for them? Well, Franciscoleite is your answer, alongside the awesome humour of Navy boffin Joachim von Bremen who helped translate his "manifesto":

Issue 162: LAST CHANCE TO SIGN UP! Erepublik UK Batracer Series

What is Batracer?
BATracer is a browser webgame similar to some racing manager style webgames. However, it is unique in that gameplay centres around the player as the driver, rather than the team manager. This introduces multiplayer team work as an important part of success. Each race has multiple sessions; Practice, Qualifying, Warmup, and Race. Each session is calculated every 24 hours, which means you don't have to be logged in 24/7 to be competitive. Best of all its free!
http://www.batracer.com
What series are you racing?
We've just completed a season in A1, and found this to be very enjoyable and newbie friendly. A1 is similar to formula 1 except that all the cars are equal, you don't have a teammate, and there are 2 races per track (a shorter sprint race which decides the qualifying positions for the longer race).
How do I join the season?
The new A1 season is currently accepting registrations. Once you have registered on The Batracer website, from the 'Game' menu select 'Private Games' and enter the following ID: 47118
The password is: fryday
Alternatively, just click this link: http://batracer.com/-cj?&D&47118]
Then select which country you want to represent, select your tyres/engine (there is only 1 choice, all cars are equal) and you'll then have to choose your driver characteristics (more on this later).
We've already got 13 competitors and 30 is the limit, so sign up before its too late! No entrance fee this season!
Driver Characteristics: The Guide
Shamelessly stolen from the Batracer Unlimited forum...
Mechanical Sympathy
Slider: Mechanical Symapathy
Setting can be more toward abusive.
Reduces any mechanical gremlins you may encounter during the race.
Wet Weather Warrior
Slider: Overall Speed/Pace (wet)
Real speed is found when it rains.
High wet pace setting without risk of crashing.
Pole Sitter King
Slider: Qualifying Pace
Speed bonus in Qualifying only, but significantly larger than that of Speed Demon.
Combined with Thinker can put you on pole almost every race with a perfect setup.
NO bonus for the race itself.
Speed Demon
Small speed bonus in qualifying, the race and in the wet.
One of the most useful skills to have, because instead of one large bonus in one area you get 3 small ones.
Consistent: You may set a higher pace with reduced risk of driver error and usually always will put in consistent lap times based on your set up.
Super Fit
Reduces rate of driver errors and helps you maintain your speed late in the race.
Often overlooked, but I find this skill is actually quite helpful in many series.
As far as I've found using it, it prevents most errors and allows you to constantly push yourself to your limits, allowing more speed all through the race.
Concentration
I find that this skill drastically reduces those pesky driver errors, spins, crashes and other anomalies that you may encounter during the race. I have found no speed bonus aside from the reduced risk of any errors.
Lucky
I have only found that this skill prevents you from crashing in qualifying and loosing all your laps, or suffering a "mechanical failure on circuit" or anything like that. It may also help with collisions (for reducing damage to you) but I have not confirmed that part.
Committed
You always fight for points and will seem to go faster if you are further down the field, until you reach your "goal" position indicated in the race strategy section.
Cool
Reduces the risk of collisions when fighting for position on track, or driver errors that may result from on track position battles.
Aggressive
Slider: Aggression
Can be set more toward Offensive with a greatly reduced risk of collisions.
Thinker
Slider: Experimentation
You may set your slider more towards Hi-Data/Risky during practice and warm up and receive the best feedback with no risk of crashing, or loosing laps.
This is one of the best skills to have in the game.
The only set back is that it's very harsh on tyres, so if you are in touring cars or V8's where you have a very limited amount of softs to use, you may damage a set you need to use later in the race, or wear down 2 separate sets at a advanced rate. There is no worry of this in F1, as you can just use Hard tyres.
Control Freak
Slider: Race Start
Reduces stalling or making a "horrible start".
This skill does not, however, guarantee a perfect or great start. It simply eliminates the chance you will mess up.
I find that most of the time you will just make average or good starts with it set on 100. Very rarely will you make a fantastic start, but the skill is a handy one to have nonetheless
Wisdom
Slider: Qualifying Pace
Set at 100 without crashing or being held up by other drivers during qualifying.
Provides consistent top 10 qualifying results.
Not quite the pace as Pole Sitter King but Pole is possible.
(Testers: BrundleB192, Dmanbluesfreak and Kerplunk)
Spatial Awareness
Makes passing easier and cleaner.
If you are not a whole lot faster than your opponent (which is a huge bonus for passing) but rather just a small bit faster, you will still find a small opening and exploit it.
I find it also reduces the risk of crashing as most (if not all) of the passes end up clean and with you the victor.
Bender
Not currently known.
Charisma
Sliders: Pitstop Speed vs Mistakes and Experimentation
Allows you to set your mechanics slider higher (100) for error free pitstops.
During practice and warm up, mistakes are eliminated just like Thinker but at a reduced feedback rate.
There have been other speculated benefits to this skill, but non confirmed as of yet
How to set up your car
When you get to the Garage -> car setup page, click the link that says 'Engineers Advice'. This provides a starting base for your settings.
Low = 20 or 30 to start (I choose 25)
Medium = 50 to start
High = 70 to 80 to start (I choose 75)
Brakes are an exeption and tend to be close to 50 most of the time. If the engineer says loose start at 60 and if you should have a safe brake bias put them aroun 40 to start.
Then move in increments of 8, then 4 then 2 as you get feedback and get closer to narrowing down the perfect car setup.
Example. For a "medium" suspension start at 50, then say it says "lower" 0-50. Set at 42, then it may say 42-50, set it at 46, then move down or up until you are spot on.
The experimentation slider decides how hard you will push your car to get these estimates. Push to hard and you can crash (lose test laps) or over exert yourself (lose laps). Play it too safe and you barely get any feedback.
