Willful Ignorance

Day 1,836, 16:50 Published in USA USA by Civil Anarchy

You know, I never thought I would have to publish this article.
I never thought that the AFA would actually start convincing people that they were a legitimate party, instead of the obvious PTO group that anyone looking at the facts can see. No seriously, I never thought people could be so willingly ignorant of the facts. It’s almost as if they’re lying to themselves because they want to think things are okay, that we’re not being PTO’d, and that we’re not fighting a losing battle. Get a grip.

I’ve read a few articles lately about, ‘not hating the AFA’ and that, ‘They just want to roleplay being American’ or, ‘they’re only reacting badly because we treated them badly.’

The entirety of this mentality relies on one, quite incorrect assumption, that all of the actions towards the AFA from long standing and high ranking American citizens is due to ‘hatred’ of their group, or some sort of weird xenophobia. Let’s get one thing straight, none of these actions towards the AFA are from any sort of hatred towards them. I’m going to be very clear about who fired the first shot, because people misconstrue this heavily.

The AFA/RLC fired the first shot.
Time for a bit of history.
There once existed a party called the United States Marijuana Party. It was a moderately successful revival that fell into the hands of a certain man named Chickensguys (Also known as Captain Quark) after the original founder, Jude Connors, quit the game. A lot of people were worried about Chickensguys, due to his connections with Ajay/pthut/Ronald Gipper Reagan, but we gave him the benefit of the doubt, because he hadn’t actually done anything wrong yet. So we allowed him to run the party as he saw fit, and didn’t intervene.

This was the first mistake in our history of the PTO. We pretended it wasn’t happening.

CG played fair the first month or so. Didn’t break too many rules, besides some IES violations here and there to beef up his party. So obviously, there wasn’t much reason to care. Then, things changed. Chickensguys cut a deal with Ajay to make the significantly larger and potent Republican Liberty Caucus. Ajay controlled a number of foreign votes from rogue approvals and citizenship selling, but not nearly enough to actually hold and control a Top 5 party. They were getting 2 or 3 congressmen, if they were lucky, through our established blocking system. People were concerned, obviously, because of Ajay’s history of attempting to PTO the United States twice, (the first time on behalf of the Hungarian Government using their resources), but Cg had assured everyone that Ajay was not in control of the party.

This was the second mistake in our history of the PTO. We allowed Ajay into a top 5 party.

It wasn’t long before the RLC congressmen started breaking the rules. And before the accusations of retaliation come up, we allowed the RLC congressmen who didn’t break the rules congressional privileges and information. We didn’t discriminate or drive them into fighting. They did that one their own, by breaking the rules to buffer their own populations. It wasn’t long before all of our citizenship approval pages started looking like this:

Protip: Our citizen approval page shows citizen approvals for a full three years, and 40% of the total approvals took place in the last 7 months. That’s not a coincidence.

Shortly after CG’s term, Dutch Marley took the head of the RLC. Thinking he could turn the party around, he ran the party with candidates he thought he could trust, and in a fairly legitimate manner. Dutch thought that he would be able to make a legitimate party out of the RLC, despite Ajay’s influence, and the influx of PTO’ers that now controlled a large portion of the party.

This was the third mistake in the history of the PTO. We thought we could salvage the party.

Despite rigorous background checks and strong blocking, a number of enemy congressmen were still able to make it in on the newly reformed RLC ballot. The citizenship approvals from this month basically solidified the PTO presence in the United States, giving Ajay and his group enough support to be able to create a new Top 5 party, even when the other 4 united against the existing one. We were able to ATO each party that made it to the Top 5, but someone would simply start a new one and make it to the top 5 in time for the Congressional elections.
Thus began the next phase of the PTO, where the battles existed during Congressionals instead of the PP elections. Such a battleground was not favorable to us, and the AFA continuously brought in new citizens from Serbia, Macedonia, and other enemy countries to gather more strength.

The RLC was then reclaimed in July, from Dutch, and fell back into the hands of Chickensguys. Due to the constant influx of new citizens, the RLC had it’s most productive month yet, going over 1000 votes during the Congressional Elections. The RLC vote tally -
May 2012: 443
Total: 3006
June 2012: 526
Total: 3134
July 2012: 1005
Total: 3237

At this point in time, it seemed like the RLC had won the battle. However, they committed a grave mistake. During the August 2012 PP elections, both Chickensguys and Ronald Gipper Reagan ran, splitting the PTO vote down the middle. This allowed the other four parties, with the ATO candidate Gnilraps, to take control of the party.

Although we were able to take control of the party, and rename it ‘We The People,’ the PTO presence had become so potent in the country that they simply moved to the AFA, and remained in the top 5. However, the American Government did something that actually had a massive impact to stopping the PTO influx.

So I ask you, considering the fact that the RLC/AFA had gone from 400 to 500 to 1000 votes over the course of 3 months, what could have possibly stopped them? They’ve been stuck at about 800, despite approving more and more PTO’ers each day.

We dropped the bonuses
The only reason the AFA does not have control of the eUnited States today is because we dropped the 100/100 bonuses, and statistically slowed their expansion to a crawl, in comparison to the rate that had been seen prior to that. With 100/100 bonuses, the AFA was able to recruit people from all around the world, with promises of maximum economic productivity, while being assured that people would retain the citizenship due to it’s value. However, once the value of American citizenship went down, the populace changed from economic bonus seekers to actual PTO’ers, people dedicated to the operation at hand. Obviously, that process was significantly less effective, as evidenced by the drop in bonuses. This is also why the AFA is basically a one note party, advocating solely for gaining 100/100 bonuses. The reasoning is simple, if we get 100/100 back, it would take them probably only one month to finish the PTO. We stopped them just in time.

So that brings us to today. A constant battle against the AFA, and a struggle to keep the eUnited States independent. Some people argue that the AFA is simply full of people that want to roleplay Americans, that just want to be a part of the country, that are simply misunderstood, or are retaliating against a government that ‘hates’ them.

To that mentality, I have but one argument:

Note: All of these approvals were done in the last 6 days alone. This is not including the months of other approvals.

Just check the military units, locations, friends, or newspapers of these individuals to confirm their nationality. Hell, a lot of them did you the favor of giving up American Citizenship once the election was up. Also notice that none of them join any other party but the AFA, which is quite curious indeed.

In the history segment of this article, I told you where we made mistakes in the past. Mistakes that allowed this to happen. Mistakes that allowed this situation to become so dire.
Do you want to know what the last mistake is? The final straw that hands over the sovereignty of our nation?
Complacency
They win when we stop fighting. The AFA takes over when men who stand against the PTO fall silent, and when the populace gives up it’s will to continue. When you recognize the legitimacy of the AFA, you are surrendering to their plot.

To the innocent Americans who were tricked into joining the AFA, I do hope the facts have defeated their rhetoric.
To the remaining Americans who have fought against the PTO, I stand by you. Yet, I must ask one more thing of you, one more popular action.

You’ve obviously heard of the Department of Homeland Security. It’s a recent creation of the Cerb Administration to galvanize public opinion against the PTO, and unite the country as best as possible, while preserving the political institutions that are still in place. As of yet, I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about it, saying that it does nothing, or is worthless.

The answer to those complaints is very simple. Whether you think it works, or think it’s worthless, you’re right.

You see, there’s a funny reality about the metagame structure we’ve set up in ye old eRepublik. Every department, every party, every job, every individual, only has power if we give it power. That is the beauty, and the weakness, of the political sphere. Very few positions are inherently powerful, and only become so when public opinion gives it that power. Without the public, the Media department would be dead. eNPR only lives because of the people who support it. Our military only has strength and community because we give it the strength, and the popularity, to have those attributes.

Assuming the Department of Homeland Security will be powerful in and of itself is a fallacious mentality, and one that we have to defeat to protect the stability of our country. The reality is, no one else is going to decide how to defeat this PTO. There’s no one to shoulder this responsibility for you.

It’s you and me, America.
You can deny reality, or you can fight. You can stand with me, and with your friends, to fight against the PTO of our country, and to stand for the true ideals of our nation.

The power is yours, comrades. Let’s use it.
It’s going to take every ounce of strength, from each and every one of us, to defeat what has become almost as strong as us in our own land. Yet....

I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our home, to ride out the storm of PTO, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone. At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. That is the resolve of the American Government-every man of them. That is the will of Congress and the nation.
