WINNERS

1 (NR) China

Finally back! Whoooooo! Miss me? 😉 Anyway, in the couple weeks of hiatus, there have been plenty of battles and epic wars, including a massive but ultimately failed attempt to liberate the Balkans from Serbia. However, the clear victor was China. Had Poland successfully gained the initiative, the Chinese may well have been on its last leg. But the Chinese prevailed once again, holding a few Russian regions and securing their northern border. Now, only southern and eastern fronts are open for the invaders. Having utterly humiliated Poland, China proves once again that EDEN is not yet dead.

Week rating: 9.4/10

2 (NR) Chile

Merry Christmas Chile! You got a free gold mine! Da-da-da-da!!!~~~~ Everything has been going just alright for the Chileans. Argentina is struggling to fight back against the Chilean forces, the gold mine will in all likelihood fall in occupied Sydney, giving the Chileans the bonus, and most importantly, they avoided a huge disaster. With Poland threatening to airstrike Sydney for the bonus, Chile could very well have fallen on the opposite end of the list for allowing CoTWO to fall apart. But the Chileans kept the dual alliance alive, averting Polish attention and sending them the Turks' way. With their landbridge, gold mine, and home regions all secure, things look good.

Week rating: 9.1/10

3 (B1) Russia

Sure, sure, Russia gave up some lands. But consider the whole situation. For the first time in many a month, Poland's invasion failed, and while they certainly would've preferred avoiding the whole war to begin with, it could have been much worse. First, Russia secures its own independence, with mighty China backing them up. Second, they've shown the viability of their peculiar MPP stack. With both CoT and EDEN MPPs, Russia is surely the unity between the two alliances (and Asgard too!), both ensuring the Russians' liberation. With Polish troops retreating west in frustration, Russia has given up little but a few thank you regions to China. Could it have gone much better?

Week rating: 8.7/10

4 (NR) Greece

All of a sudden, Egypt is of actual worth, and all of a sudden, Greece is a heavy hitter. A few months back, Greece had a mighty Middle Eastern empire that stretched from the homefront Attica and Thessaly down to Cairo and Riyadh. Those days are long gone, but Greece made a step into rebuilding its empire. Just a few weeks back, FYROM had essentially conquered all of Greece, but with their longtime neighbors 'strategically retreating' to Saudi Arabia, Greece has one less enemy and three more regions. With most of Bulgaria already occupied by fellow EDENites Romania and Turkey, the Greeks are now clashing in Egypt for regions, and possibly a gold mine. In close fights, things are going Greece's way.

Week rating: 8.6/10

5 (B2) Republic of China (Taiwan)

Whatever happened to 'we will wipe Taiwan and erase them from history'? Two failed Gangnam Styles later, it's the Taiwanese that hold their heads high. Granted, they were unable to fully eradicate the American threat militarily and keep all of their empire. But with America's island Hawaii naturally bordering the island of Taiwan itself, it was impossible to completely erase the threat through force alone. At the end of the day, Taiwan merely sacrifices a couple of South Korean regions and some cash for national security, as well as being able to retain a few of their colonies! This little island nation is frankly doing very well for itself, as it looks to restore peace to the nation before questing for new blood. Indonesia, anyone?

Week rating: 8.1/10

Honorable Mentions: Lithuania, Iran

LOSERS

Just barely good enough: Croatia, Netherlands

B5 (L2) Sweden

While fellow Asgard Finland enjoyed a relatively unopposed restoration of its nation from Polish hands (well, do you count Estonia as good opposition?), their Swedish friends to the west have not been so lucky. First with Latvia then with Lithuania, it's been an uphill struggle to merely stay on the map at all. With Germark leaning towards CoT (re: friendly to Lithuania), Sweden no longer has the extra hand to support them, and they've struggled mightily as a result. Norway has freed a northern region to help fight the Latvians, but it's been to no avail. Sweden simply seems trapped with no one able to help them.

Week rating: 3.4/10

B4 (NR) Australia

Resources are a double-edged sword. While resources certainly help the nation, controlling them also means that other nations will want them. Badly. One example is with imperialism in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, with Balkan bruisers from both sides conquering the regions for their bonuses. Similarly, such is the case with Australia and gold mines. If Chile wasn't satisfied with the effort for merely the regions and bonuses themselves, as well as strained relations, toss in shiny, daily gold for every citizen to the mix! Australia has become a prime collectible for the Chileans, making it even more unlikely that they will find a diplomatic solution to their problem. And if they try to win militarily? ...just...no.

Week rating: 3.1/10

B3 (NR) FYROM

Relocating to Saudi Arabia and the UAE isn't necessarily a bad idea, especially seeing as FYROM naturally comes with a paltry three regions. However, it is a noticeable occurrence when Greece completely stomps the Macedonian armies, crushing the FYROM occupation of the Greek homeland in little more than a week. Sure, FYROM wasn't the most interested in the fights, but the showing was simply humiliating. And with one less nation in the Balkans, CoT has suddenly opened up a gateway for EDEN to restore some sense of strength in the region. FYROM better hope that their foray into Iran is worth it.

Week rating: 3.0/10

B2 (B5) Poland

Whatever happened to destroying the last bastion of EDEN resistance and destroying the vile Cromanian serpents once and for all? After a promising showing early on in Russia, risking CoT belligerence to attack an associated (unofficially, but still) nation, Poland missed the initiative by a few seconds. And that was all she wrote, as Poland suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Chinese. No longer can the Polish dream of marching into Beijing. In rage, Poland nearly destroyed CoTWO relations (again), threatening Chile over a gold mine and almost ruining the pact. The Netherlands is a decent consolation, perhaps, but Poland needs to restore its pride. But if their airstrike on Turkey fails, watch out...

Week rating: 2.3/10

B1 (NR) Argentina

Ah Argentina! Welcome back! To the bottom, that is. On its own after falling off the tree, Argentina's success has seemed to ebb and flow with the tide. One week, as CoTWO support pumps elsewhere, the Argentinians make huge gains in South America and threaten even Chile's Australian regions. Other weeks, however, it seems as though leaving the alliance was a sign of surrender. Argentina suffered one of the latter weeks, struggling to hold back Chile from conquering large swaths of its home regions, as the dreaded wipe seems imminent. Without Argentina, Uruguay would surely be next, as CUA would be fully wiped. Regional alliances are nice, but not when everyone is defeated. Argentina has to muster up a string of victories before it's too late.

Week rating: 1.5/10
