E Canada is in dire times. Our leadership, especially the civilian and military, have been working tirelessly to ensure we can meet the demands of this war, and ensure our nation will emerge wholly restored from this war, and better prepared for the next. We have been put the test. Our resolve has been challenged, and our determination, questioned.

Continual siege, from without and sometimes from within, has a way of drawing the besieged people together. eCanada and eAmerica, for example, during this time signed a new and totally unprecedented alliance, the brolliance, which is in itself an affirmation of our two great nations’ commitment to friendship and cooperation. It’s also recognition one to the other of the sacrifices each have made, and at the same time, a declaration of thanksgiving from both. Likewise, eCanada joined the EDEN alliance, for their unprecedented support in helping us to restore our nation during our darkest hours.

I have to admit that this binding has not been exclusive to the nations. It is very much real in personal relationships too, most obviously between the leaders of ‘We the Besieged Nations,’ but also within the leadership of each nation.

So when a conference of eCanadian leaders was called for in beautiful Quebec City, Quebec, eCanada, I had my own alliance of sorts I had been meaning to offer, in a similar spirit of the aforementioned alliances, though not political, and the term “alliance” wouldn’t do it justice.

As I have already impressed, during times of siege people come to rely on each other, and get to know one another, and see the others' best (and worst) –especially when it seems like the whole world is turning on you- and a certain someone in our eCanadian leadership has made an impression on me.

So as we were waiting in the hall of the Chateau Frontenac on a still and cool Fall’s night in Quebec City, I asked this person if they had ever walked down Quebec’s stunning boardwalk in Old Quebec City, not far from the hotel where eCanada’s leadership conference was being held. The reply was, “I have never walked down there no.”

So I insisted we go for a walk…

As we walked I forced myself to pretend to still be interested in the topic of the conference in Quebec City (that is, winning the war), which never ceases to be the focus of all our conversation. In truth, at least at this time, something else was weighing heavily on my mind. And while I nodded the normal yes to statements like, “Whatever! Who cares about MPP consequences, let’s just destroy those buggers!” and “Our soldiers are the best. They can do anything. Let’s just give them a chance to show who’s boss on the battlefield!” I had to admit to myself that there was a different battle being waged inside me, and this one had to do with working up the nerve not just to attack our much stronger enemies -though that seemed easy compared to this- but to grow the courage and just ask one simple little question. After convincing myself that I might as well go for it or else have to live with eUK-like cowardice on my conscience (which is totally unacceptable for an eCanadian), I took the leap of faith and candidly interrupted my friend, and declared,

“There’s something I have to ask you.”

“…Yeah? What is it now? More pestering about reforms? I told you I was taking care of it!”

“Coda, will you e Marry me?”

Coda's Response.

Sincerely,
WD
