War within a breath

Day 886, 06:54 Published in USA USA by Necrosis

Holy balls, I'm writing an article. Holy balls once more, it's a serious article, on current military events. I'm going to preface this article with a disclaimer; I haven't been paying all that much attention to the last few days, so I'll be focusing on what is going on now. This means I'll probably be completely off the mark, but hey, at least I'll know what's going on by the end of this.

World at war
No, I'm not talking about the terrible Call of Duty game. The world, within the confines of eRepublik, is at war. Took bloody long enough, I was getting kind of bored. War is hell, but peace? Peace is effing boring

Alright, enough of me talking testicles, on with the battles.

Poland? More like OH GOD SO MANY BATTLESland.

Like what I did there? No, me neither, but I'm tired.

Poland, after making a failed move toward Mexico, high oil, and most likely iron in South America, have come under a counter attack, on several fronts.

Rhone Alps

With a defensive wall over 1.3million points, and a cost to attack falling just shy of two and a half thousand gold, this is a fortress region in the truest sense of the word. Poland's high wood region is their most prized possession. One of their two high RM regions, along with Berlin, they love the place. Currently under attack by a Slovenian attack, with all the major MPPs active against Poland, and the UK, the wall currently sits about halfway between secure and conquer. 9 hours to go in this battle; this is of crucial importance to Poland, this is one of their main economic sectors, and the loss of it could be catastrophic for their income. Not a death blow, by any means, but something they'd prefer not happen.

Berlin
I mentioned this region a minute ago; this is their other high RM region, containing grain. Their first target of their war of aggression against the Germans several months ago now, this was their original non original fortress region. This is currently under attack by a rampaging Russia; taking advantage of Poland's lack of any strong MPPs. Russia attacked the Polish region of Pomerania yesterday, and won while Poland was distracted elsewhere, and now aims to retake the last Polish held German region. Currently, the battle sits slightly above the secure line, a little over 4 hours in. The loss of this region is likely to be considered a loss of honour as opposed to any real loss; grain is one of the more abundant RMs in the game, and therefore supply is higher. Economically, I don't expect this to be a large issue, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Poland ignore this battle for the most part, and focus elsewhere.

Sticking somewhat with Poland, the region of Pomerania, captured by Russia against Poland, is subject to a resistance war; this is likely a damage drain, in order to divert damage from other fronts, particularly the attack in Berlin.

Poland lost the region of the canary islands in the last 24 hours as well; this means they no longer have a region bordering Mexico, and Brazil. This means they have lost their path to potential high iron and oil in the American subcontinent. They still have the possibility of swapping through Spain, but only if they win in the Rhone Alps. If that battle is lost, they would need to go through France and Spain, both of whom would not be best pleased with such a situation.

China

Vs. Serbia

Inner Mongolia - Battle link

Inner Mongolia is a fairly important region, strategically in Asia. It is the only region that allows access to the north east of China, other than Beijing. The costs of swapping Beijing each time someone wanted to attack Liaoning or Heilongjiang is astronomical; around 1,600 gold each time, with the same amount to attack the regions in question, costs mount up. Inner-Mongolia borders both regions, and has less population, even with Serbia's placement of a Q5 hospital in the region, and moving people there. If this region were Chinese once more, it would be a significant development as far as future attacks against Phoenix iron interests in the region. Speaking of which...

Liaoning - Battle link

Ah, now things get fun. Serbia's high iron region is under attack. Currently, after around 13 hours, the wall is approximately where it began. Given the fact that the battle ends late in Europe, where most of PHX's damage resides, this could be a close run thing. Expect to see some heavy damage from mobile forces in this battle. The impact of Serbia losing this region would be large; they'd need over 10,000 moving tickets to move the people there back to Serbia; assuming around 0.14g/ticket, that's 1,400g spent on getting people back to their lines alone. The loss of tax income, a likely drop in currency demand, would limit Serbia's economy to a large extent, while boosting China's economy to a large extent. The battle, possibly paid for by EDEN as a damage drain, is likely to take on a life of it's own, as armies from all over the world seek to weaken, or maintain, Serbia's strength.

This is one of the more important battles today; up there with the battle for the Rhone Alps in terms of importance to major players in the game.

Heilongjiang - Battle link

Most likely a damage drain. A really really expensive one, but still. No massive amount of damage has been put up against this region, with around 500k been put up in defence. 18 hours to go on this one, we could see a major push by allied troops at rollover, but I wouldn't expect this to be uncontested. Hungary manufactured the entire invasion of North America to swap themselves into this region, I don't think they will give it up just like that. This has allowed Romania and Croatia to attack Hungary's original regions. More on that later.

This attack was only made possible by a successful resistance war in the region of Jilin, which gave China the border to Heilongjiang. With this important region back in China's hands, Heilongjiang is always under threat of attack once more, casting a shadow over potential Hungarian offensives in the future.

Vs. Russia
A block in the region of Chagang; an original North Korean region. This battle and resistance war combination prevent Russia from continuing their offensive in Eastern Europe after the battle of Berlin. Compared to the rest of the Asian battles, this is a cheap, and boring battle, but an important one nonetheless.

More Asian land wars

USA v Iran

In the region of Jammu & Kashmir, which Iran attacked after some land swaps with the Holy Nation of Pakistan, praise be Dio, India retreated and region swapped the USA to a border, to prevent further Iranian incursion into the Indian peninsular. This strengthens the USA's high iron region of Karnataka, while also regaining Indian regions from enemy control. This battle is not the top priority for anyone, which is reflected by the lack of any real damage on either side.

India Vs. Serbia

Attacking the region of Sindh, currently held by Serbia, India seek to expel Serbia from the area, thus strengthening the security of the zone, and, in the event a catastrophe happens in Serbia's Chinese regions, preventing them from having a region nearby which they can use as a staging base from which to make their way to their iron. Currently, the battle seems to favour Serbia, but with 16 hours remaining, and only a wall of 200,000, combined with all the other battles that Serbia is fighting, make nothing certain in this battle.

Malaysia vs Philippines.

A training war – a badly timed one. Containing China and India as the important (for the purposes of today's battles) participants, this could possibly lower damage elsewhere. While most likely contractually obliged to hold the battle today, it is not exactly convenient for everyone else.

We've over halfway now; go get yourself a cup of tea, or coffee, and come back for the remainder.

Hungry for Hungarian blood
Sorry, couldn't resist

A few months ago, Hungary launched an ill fated attack on Romania; today Romania struck back. Attacking the region of the Northern Great Plain, they activated 13 MPPs against themselves; all the major Phoenix players, apart from Serbia. Currently they are handily winning this battle, which offers them a border with Central Hungary, their most populous original region.

Croatia, having 15 MPPs active against Hungary from their attack on North West Croatia yesterday, also attacked 2 regions, and are currently winning both by a reasonable margin. Croatia have every major EDEN and Broliance MPP active, apart from Poland, so any prolonged campaign against Hungary is likely to have better success than the Romanian front

The attacks against Hungary will probably succeed, this time. I do not expect this to be a long term successful front, the complete opposite, in fact. Romania will in all likelihood come under the covetous gaze of Hungary soon enough, and Croatia soon after. The battles in Asia cannot be fought every day, and it is only due to those distraction battles that the wars against Hungary in Europe have any chance of succeeding. I do not think it is a case of if Hungary decides to attack back, it is a case of when.
In addition to these risky attacks against Hungary, Romania have attacked Bulgaria, and Croatia attacked Slovenia. This activates another front with reasonable MPPs against both nations, which down the line could lead to a 2 pronged assault on both of them, which is much harder to defend against than a single front, not due to extra damage, but to difficulties in regaining the initiative. This is going to get even bloodier in the coming days and weeks, this is simply the opening act. The wars in this region have stamina, and are often fuelled in part by real life tensions; Romania – Hungary is a good example of this.

There are a few other smaller battles being waged right now; but I've just written 1,700 words, and several pages, and I honestly cannot be bothered to write more about smaller battles.

I did consider writing some predictions, but I decided against it in the end, for three reasons; firstly, I would be laughed at when I got some of them wrong, secondly, see the previous paragraph, finally, I'm slightly out of practice writing war articles, as you'll see when you stumble on the various inaccuracies in the above article
