eRepublik is a very social game. There is not much that you can do without interacting with other players, but this interaction is what makes eRepublik the fun and interesting game that it is! This guide will explain ways that you can begin to understand what goes on in your eRep society and how your neighbours influence it.

Articles

Articles were touched upon in ' The First Steps' guide and will be explained even more here.
Newspapers and their articles will be key in understanding what is going on in eRepublik. There are many great writers (but also some really bad ones...) in the media who will provide information and insight on recent events in society and in the government. Reading these articles will help you to understand what's going on, and also will help you to get to know the people who are involved in society.

If you find an article that you enjoy reading, there is a feature that will allow you to be notified whenever the writer publishes a new article, called “Subscription”. In the top-right corner of every article is a button that says “Subscribe” (or “Unsubscribe” if you've already subscribed), by clicking this button you've subscribed to that newspaper. If you want to stop receiving notifications about new articles, you can unsubscribe at any time by pressing that same button.

Another feature of articles is the “Vote” feature. Every article has a “Vote Count”, which counts how many citizens have voted for that article. It is encouraged to vote for articles that you've enjoyed reading, or find informative, as the vote count is an indicator of the quality of the article. But this is not always true, there are many articles which receive high vote counts, but which are not of good quality.

Asking Questions

Asking questions is another excellent way to get information about what's going on. There are many citizens who have been playing for a long time, so they have a better grasp about the society and events in the eWorld. Many of these players are very nice and helpful, and would be more than willing to answers questions. But there are also some players who wouldn't be willing to help answer some questions, so you shouldn't be discouraged if some responses you get are not very kind. There are two good ways to ask other people questions, these include commenting on articles, and sending a message directly to another player.

Article Comments
Every article has a section where other citizens can comment on it. This is a good place to ask questions, but only when the question is related to the content of the article. Here, everyone who reads the article will be able to see your question, meaning that it's much more likely that there will be someone who answers it. But other citizens can also respond with negative responses, so don't be discouraged if you see some of these answers.

Direct Messages
eRepublik allows you to send private messages (or PMs) to other players. These are messages that only you and the recipient can see. You can send a player a message like this by visiting their player profile, and pressing the “Send Message” button underneath of their avatar.
If you are going to send a direct message, it is strongly suggested that you do not send this message to “just anyone”. Try to find someone who seems both educated and friendly, because it is mostly these types of people who don't mind taking a little bit of time to answer questions from new players.

Talk To People

Talking to people is the best way to get to know them. eRepublik provides some game modules for talking with other players, but these are not used as much as other methods. Ways that you can talk with other players include commenting in articles and sending them messages (just like asking them a question, but now just a comment!), as well as some “outside” sources, such as the national forums and the IRC channels.

The forums and IRC channels can again be considered part of “the next stage” of eRepublik, since they add another level of complexity for citizens. They are not part of the actual eRepublik game, but they have been created by eRepublik players to provide an area for discussion and structure to society. The next guide published in this series will explain more about Forums and IRC.

Conclusion

If you take enough time to read articles, respond to them, and talk with other citizens in eRepublik, you will learn how the eWorld works. It may take some time to really understand everything, but you don't need to understand everything before moving on to “the next stage”. The next stage of eRepublik would be getting involved with society, and you can learn more about it by reading the next guide, 'Getting Involved', which has been published and can be found be clicking here

If there are any questions about this guide, you can send Kronos Q a message or leave a comment!
