Training Wars and EDEN

Good Morning eSwitzerland !

Right, let me begin my saying that I hope you’re all doing well. Today is a big day for us as a nation, for several different reasons. Now, a touchy subject has been the Training War. We haven’t had a training war since the invasion of Slovakia, a neutral country, by Hungary. But I am working on a solution, and hopefully we should have a Training War in a few days.

Now the big subject, the one that has been giving me and my ministers a lot more work than usual: our joining of EDEN. So, let me address all of you, and give you the insight which led to this decision. No more secrets, no more hiding of information, I will tell you exactly what has been going on in my head since the beginning.

So, let’s go back to the initial negotiation of our first freed region: Deutschschweiz. The Hungarians didn’t know who we were, we didn’t know them, but after several negotiations, they agreed to sell us the region for 500 gold as well as another 70 gold for the RW. This was a big price, but it was the price of freedom. So we got out country back, but it was messed up and due to a bug we couldn’t get congress.

Now, ongoing talks with Hungary, and their chief negotiator for our country tells me that the maximum price for our regions will be 300g. When I point out that we have only medium regions, and that the US, in the proposed but not accepted peace treaty (when they were invaded) only had to pay 200g for medium regions, I was told that the US is a larger threat than Switzerland, so I don’t really get a choice. Oh joy ! First signs of ‘helping us’.

Now let’s move on. We come to the point where we’re starting to ask for Romandie back, after the Congress Elections. Let me point out that we got absolutely no help from Hungary during the Congress elections. Why? Well they were too busy failing to prevent an EDEN ‘PTO’ to help out a country with which they were supposed to be friends. On the other hand, the US sent us quite a few voters.

So we’re asking for Romandie back, and they are pretty much telling me to wait, because of some obscure reasons. Now, suddenly, they start seeing major defeats in North America, and they need to get rid of useless regions which EDEN is using for distraction. So what do they do? Well they tell me I have 1h to find 390 gold, and pay for the resistance war in Romandie, or they will just go somewhere else. Notice that the price suddenly goes up from 300 to 390. Anyway, we pay up, as we have no real choice, and we get Romandie back. The next day, as they’re still trying to get rid of useless regions, they propose to give us back Svizzera Italiana. This time only for 50g. This was the only true gift the Hungarians ever gave us.

Now, after all this, I wanted to sign a Non Aggression Pact with Hungary, just to insure our security. Let me show you a few extracts of the initial NAP:

- eSwitzerland shall not sign mutual protection pacts (alliances) with eCroatia, eRomania and eUSA during this NAP.
- eSwitzerland shall not attack directly the states that eHungary has mutual protection pacts (alliances) with.
- Parties state that region Graubunden, an original region of eSwitzerland is a region of eHungary.
- Was going to last 180 days, blocking us for 6 months.

Just a few quick extracts, to show how understanding they were. So basically, we were forced into neutrality, with no options to get out of it. We were also screwed if any of our neighbours (or Hungary) decided to invade because we couldn’t ask help from the opposite side. But of course, this was meant to help us…

When I pointed out that the NAP was outrageous, I was told that the Hungarians congress would discuss some changes. Not only did I not here anything for about 5 days, but Sources indicated that they weren’t going to change their minds.

Decisions had to be made. On the other side, EDEN countries provided us with a Q5 Hospital, several programs to help us get money (ongoing in the US and Canada as I write these ligns), the US has largely helped in restoring the value of our currency, and just generally being friendly.

So I asked myself, who do we want on our side? Countries that have proven to us that they want to help us, by being supportive and helping us in time of need? Or countries that take away outrageous sums of money for us to get back regions that are worthless to them, and make outrageous demands? Well I can tell you I didn’t spend hours thinking about it.

Now there is the argument that some PEACE members have been friendly with us. This is true. France and Japan have largely helped us out. But it is also true that PEACE is facing a crisis currently, where smaller member nations don’t have their say. Lyne Faynel published an article about that recently, and I invite you to read it here. Also, Japan was threatened into letting Indonesia use one of its regions to attack the US. Do we one day want to be threatened into doing things we believe are wrong?

So there you go, that’s about it, long read I know. I know it’s going to be impossible to prevent trolling, but please try to keep this comments constructive.
