Training Grounds and Battles You Can Fight In

Day 762, 17:41 Published in USA USA by Lieutenant Scheisskopf

Because everyone is still recovering from yesterday's battle, I have no war-related commentary to give today. However, I thought one change in eRepublik since yesterday was certainly worth mentioning, since I have not noticed if anyone else has brought it up yet-- although if you have fought today, I am sure you saw it. Without giving away too much tradecraft on how to research for military-related articles (if you want to know, you should register for my Journalism course<-- shameless plug), the latest change to the Training module has taken away an essential resource: the ability to see all active wars, and all battles, on one page. Instead, we have this in its place.

Some people may consider the "Battles You Can Fight In" to be a good change, as it shows more easily which battles are available to them. I just wonder how hard it was under the old system for people to figure out which battles they could fight in, to make this change necessary-- maybe I am missing something. Think about what this does to those who fight for, or command, mobile fighting units who routinely deploy, or for those who command a country's military. Or what about those who, like me, want to write about New World battles, or who are just curious about what's going on in the world? By "cutting out the middleman" and only showing the battles where we are able to fight, we are being involuntarily detached from the rest of the eRepublik battlefields and goings-on. We are made oblivious to battles which do not involve our country directly. Like Guolin said in the comments, at least give us a compromise where we could see all battles as well as the ones we are eligible for.

Sure, you can still check individual countries by clicking on their flags, or you can look at the International tab on your homepage, but whose idea was it to make being informed about the New World a more roundabout task? People who are interested in ALL battles now have to know who's fighting who beforehand, in order to find anything. Fortunately, you can still get to the original page by entering http://www.erepublik.com/en/wars. However, as long as that link is not available on the main dropdown bar, fewer and fewer people will be aware of this link's existence and will become more and more detached from the rest of the New World's latest military developments.

I hope you agree with me and will advocate that the old Active Wars format be returned quickly, either solo or alongside the new "Battles You Can Fight In" feature. This seems to be a pretty subtle change, so I hope the powers that be will strongly consider it.

God Bless America,

Lt. Scheisskopf
