The UK war...the real deal

Day 576, 14:48 Published in Ireland Ireland by Nithraldur

Dear Irish citizens and everyone else participating in this 'war'..

I will offer some clarity on the recent events, although Dishmcds has already described it quite good here. The battle we are currently having over The Shannon with the UK, is a mock war. It was portrayed as a real war for several reasons, I will outline some of them:

- test our state of readiness
- test our military capabilities
- test our commanding officers
- test the responsetime
- testing true allegiances
- offer the much wanted 'fun'

You could argue that not enough people were informed. As far as I know, my guess would be around 10, maximum 15 people of the entire eWorld were informed. The ones who really absolutely had to know, did know. Our 'secret' got out, only a few minutes after the battle was launched. Now if you know that only 10 people knew about it, imagine what result it would have given if entire congresses knew? This would have destroyed the entire purpose of having a mock war.

If people are constantly being informed that this is some sort of training, they instantly drop their activity and go about it in a more relax way. That wasn't the goal of this war, we were trying to see how people would react to a real threat and where our flaws lay. There never was a real threat to Ireland, since me and the UK President worked closely together in order to establish this training. Lots of planning went into it and also a fair share of acting, to keep things real.

If you claim that you have lost all of your money because of this, than I believe that you are one of the people that did not read the IDF articles or you did read them but didn't bother and went about it your own way. In either case, I don't think it's fair to pin blame on anyone else besides yourself if you wish to handle things your own way, going in against what the IDF had ordered. If you throw in the argument of 'we do anything to defend our country' , than you should know that going about your own actions disobeying what the official military has ordered, than you are not helping, you are only making things worse.

Ever since 2 elections ago, our citizens have been calling for some forms of 'fun'. Several fun options have already been provided, but let's face it, you've never been as active in your eLife as you have been today. You haven't been sitting on the edge of your seat like this for a very long time. You haven't hit that refresh button that many times in many eRepublik sessions like today. If you say that Ireland's safety is not something to have fun with, than you should know that we have a sort of contract in place that makes sure that Ireland never is at risk.

This organisation also proves that Ireland and the United Kingdom are still capable of working together, even after the eventful past few months. It shows that the world is still willing to unite against a form of imperialism that they see as injust. It shows that there still are people around that have other countries' best interest at heart and that they will heed the call when necessary. In times like these, one knows who their real friends are.

All of these are the most important reasons as to why this war was organised the way it was. It was not organised to make any of you look 'stupid'. It was also not set - up for my enjoyment, if that's what some people think. Quite the opposite, organising this event was quite elaborate and required lots of active time invested into it, however it was completely worth it to finally have a decent analysis on the actual state of our military.

If after this, you still feel neglected or embarassed, than I apologise as that was not my intention. Me and Kumnaa only had good intentions and hoped for some results that could help both of countries military organisation become more efficient.

On a side note, I have noticed the extreme activity and devotion of 1 squad commander in particular. I'm sure there will be more, but more investigation will be required to find out. This one person, Grainne Ni Mhaille has shown what being a leader is all about. She has attained a level of expertise any CO should aspire to and she has deserved my respect and a mentioning in this article just because of it. I suggest all of you Irish soldiers pay her the respect she deserves.

I believe I've said what needed to be said. I hope this has calmed the nerves a bit and remember, it's still a game.

Cheers

Nith
President of Ireland
