The Power of the Bandwagon

Day 801, 15:23 Published in USA USA by Joe Newton

Hello there America. It's me. Your old buddy, Joe Newton.

I'm going to do a bit of a bandwagon here, folks.
Both Josh and PigInZen published articles today going more in depth on some of their campaigns. Specifically, Citizen Retention.

I'd like to give my 2 cents here also. (ATTENTION: LULZ are below!)
In a POTUS article? Newton, your a crazy!

Stage One: Getting Them Here

Me telling Joe DaSmoe that the eUS needs to get citizens here before we keep them here. And that he forgot his pants in his rush to kill redcoats!

As I mentioned in my platform Facebook is an excellent way to get players here.

Some leading players say we should, as good eUS citizens, pay RL money for gold here. That's logical. Then players can level up faster, and be of even more value to their nation. However, I think players should not spend money on eRepublik. Directly.

What I think is, if a player so desires, they should spend money on eRepublik. But they should do it by purchasing facebook ads! That way more players would come to eRep and increase our lethality! Google ads work fine too.

Also, spamming gaming sites with eRepublik appears to be effect as well.

Stage Two: Keeping Them Here!

As Emmanuel Cruise touched on in the Jude Connors show, a lot of players don't read their welcoming messages. They assume it's spam. And even if they do, can we expect them to read it all and just swallow what it took the rest of us months to learn? Personal contact is key to keeping people. Take time out of your day to PM just one new eUS citizen and you have just doubled your effect on the eWorld.

After the initial feeling of what do I do here... passes, we can move onto communicating with them. Here, the key thing is Presidential Communication. The President has to write fairly often to the American public because they have a deep desire to hear from their POTUS, to feel that he cares. They will learn from his wisdom primarily, because he is the most visible member of the Government. In fact, I'd say the first thing a new player learns here is who the President of their nation is. That means it is essential that the President communicates with his people often and effectively. That is something I would do as President.

Stage Three: Where's the Fun?

Me talking about the need for Fun.

Okay. So the player has stayed, gotten contacted, and read a Presidents article. So, where is the fun to the game? Enter Emerick. Emerick, as many players that were born during WWIII will tell you, is the reason they stayed. And for a simple reason. He made them laugh when times were tough. When we were trapped in Florida, Emerick kept us going, not patriotism.

Controversy, Ajay Bruno also keeps players here. It's a theory I have. If Emerick, who generates positive feelings keeps players here, then an Ajay would also keep players. People like to have enemies. It drives them. It motivates them to stay.

Our amazing IRC community will then suck them in, and they will be addicted.

That's about all.

Well War also keeps players here. But Josh Frost has successfully beaten that horse to death and beyond in his last article.
