The future is a boot stamping on a human face – forever.

If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face— forever.
-George Orwell

Orwell’s quote about the future, in the most famous piece of dystopian literature ever written succinctly shows the future of France in eRepublik. Currently France has been occupied by Hungary, after their ‘liberation’ of the Rhone Alps region from the Spanish forces whom captured it after Poland lost it to a determined Slovenia the day before.

But first, a similar situation. As you are no doubt aware, the USA currently holds, and pays rent for, the high iron region of Karnataka. We currently pay 1,300gold a month for the region; most recent estimates believe this is about a break even deal for America. We don’t gain, nor do we lose. A little over a month ago, India wanted the region back, there was even a definite date set for return at one point. Despite this, the USA negotiated long and hard, and eventually came to a deal that suited both sides. An increase of 400gold a month was a small price compared to not screwing over our allies and friends in India. Some of us actually care for other countries. Apparently this is not so for your ‘liberators’ in Hungary.

Damm that is a nice view. Shame about all the Hungarians.

Currently Hungary are auctioning off your most valuable original region. Why are they doing this? They want their money back for the successful attack against the region. Wow. These guys are such good allies, they want people to pay for them to turn up, how very nice of them. The original deal, renegotiated for a few reasons after the successful battle in RA, was decided to be far too expensive by Hungary, who then offered below 50% of the original rent.

Negotiations between your two countries went on for days, combined with large amounts of media back and forth between citizens and officials of both countries. France, asking for what was actually a fair rent, have been told where to stick it. The moral of this story is you have to do as Hungary says. During my time in PEACE last year, I saw Hungary attempt a similar thing; France stood up for itself, as it has done again. Bravo. You’ve made the right decision, the coming weeks and months may be hard for you, but being subservient to another nation isn’t how this game should be played.

Currently there is a boot stamping on your collective face, France. You are being taken for a ride by your strongest allies, and you’re left all alone. Even Italy has moved against you, and partaken in an EDEN operation to the south. The writing is on the wall for you; you are left without your most valuable region, before the eve of the biggest changes to eRepublik in over 18 months, and all your friends are forsaking you.

Why not find some new friends? Perhaps a country who cares about respecting the wishes of the country who they hold regions of. I imagine such a nice country would welcome to hear from you; let bygones be bygones.

Oh, and one final thing; France, some advice from a sympathetic source here; don’t ever listen to Dish and think he isn’t lying through his teeth. It’s what he does.

No matter what path you choose, I personally wish you the best of luck, France.
