The Economist ~ Notes on the French org fiasco

Day 2,100, 14:57 by Iain Keers

Dear friends,

A very brief article today in support of the French people and government who have lost the bulk of their savings - months and months of hard work whilst under TWO occupation - to a thief. This theft, despicable as it was, was compounded by a series of errors made by the admins- errors I am only too familiar with. In the past so many times has the treasury of countries been lost due to unhelpful admins.

Recently the UK lost a large sum of money (total is still unknown) and the admins failed to help. TWO lost access to their org because of the incompetence of previous HQ members, a week later and tickets still haven’t been dealt with (this is for a five minute piece of work which affects the game of some fifty one thousand players in TWO.

In the past we’ve seen thefts where the admins have returned the money, allowed the player to keep it, banned the player, banned the org that the money was stolen from- even banned the President for no apparent reason. There appears to be no set policy and despite the obviously massive importance that org security plays in the gameplay of all citizens no actual coded solution has been developed. As Brian Boru said earlier in #eUK, collective ownership is a sin in the eyes of the admins.

After all these years we have no proper solution, but this time the admins have totally lost the plot. In some sort of mad attempt at emulation of King Solomon the admins have burned all of the money stolen. The French government understandably does not want it’s proverbial baby cut in half, and has begged the admin to reconsider- even suggesting that letting the thief keep it is better since they can at least beg him to return it. In doing this the admins have simply gone too far. To burn 3m currency and 8000 gold - which together makes the equivalent of €7300 of bought gold - is a blatant slap in the face to players everywhere. The citizens of France have saved long and hard to gather than money, it was probably supposed to be their last throw of the dice to get away from TWO occupation.

Now even as a TWO player- actually current leader of the alliance- I can’t stand by and see that sort of injustice. So yes I’m adding my voice to the French, and hope that the admins see sense.

Iain

So,an idiot robbed the National Banc of France because the CP thrusted him and he deceived him and all players. Who fault is? We've been through this situation.

And say THANK YOU because the thief has no money and gold!

Stolch
Stolch Day 2,100, 15:09

I think there are already players in this game who have spent enough money so to not be discouraged by the cost of a law suit to demonstrate once and for all without any doubt, whose fault it is.

Any theft that happens in-game with the active or passive (standing by and doing nothing is the latter) aid of the admins is a criminal act for which the administration of the site is jointly responsible.

If even 1 CC or 1 gold of those funds were bought with real money the above applies.

eisenmutter2
eisenmutter2 Day 2,100, 15:14

really? terms of service say that admins can even kill the game anytime they want and we all agreed with that while signing up. and isn't all game content (like money) property of the admins too... i don't think what you say is right

Stolch
Stolch Day 2,100, 15:19

There are laws regarding commercial transactions on the internet in the European union and no terms of service can trump them.

We're not living in a world where anyone and everyone can write his own laws, not yet at least.

Walhallah
Walhallah Day 2,100, 15:19

Terms and Conditions never are above the law, whatever they say itself. If you paid for a service, you are entitled to it, or a refund. Whatever the Terms and Conditions say.

eisenmutter2
eisenmutter2 Day 2,100, 15:29

well it is not that you have to pay to be able to login here. you don't buy property with the money you invest but just the service to use for the time being + with agreeing to the terms of service you sign a contract.
this contract can be changed by the admins freely.

and -at least in germany- they also have something similar to householders rights. just with this they can quite freely decide to exclude people from using the service

There's never any consistent response on these thefts. It's totally unfathomable.

lol admins just want France to buy gold

by the way: how come they decide to punish some thiefs (like ex-CP in egermany [case Otto von Holunder who got temp ban] + all not CPs that stole stuff in eGermany) but in other countries they fXck with the people? don't they realize that this is more than crazy?

In a world of double standards, thinking about things logically makes no sense. I know, it's a weird thing to say, but here, in this world, it may be the only sensible (?!) statement.

If one asks why Admins are being inconsistent...Well, because they can. And nothing can be done about it, as long as gold buyers keep buying. That goes for all things that could be solved in a sensible (?!) way, not only this Houdini act of currency and gold disappearing, which of course, makes no sense (?!) whatsoever.

"collective ownership is a sin in the eyes of the admins"

Words of wisdom there.

The current direction the game is heading - and has been heading for quite a long time - undermines the community and multiplayer aspects of the game. People used to care more about their country/party/mu etc than their wealth, number of BHs, any sort of personal achievement, and this gave the game the awesome community experience we all love/loved.

Jack Jockson
Jack Jockson Day 2,100, 15:28

Yes, and in RL when some country treasury gets robbed people cry to god to send a lightning upon the thief and then they wonder when sometimes lightning strikes at a tree and a fire break out and sometimes it doesn't.
