Sweden Attacks Denmark; Phoenix Starts RWs, Days 830-831

eRepublik has been very quiet overall in the past week, but a situation worth monitoring has unfolded in Scandinavia. Following the Congressional elections of Day 828, which saw a number of Serbians elected to Congress in eDenmark as well as the impeachment of eDenmark's president, the eSwedish intervened by attacking eDenmark’s three remaining regions of Hovedstaden, Sjaelland, and Syddanmark on Day 830. Only Hovedstaden, the more populated eDanish Q5 hospital region, was secured from the invasion, as tiny Sjaelland and mainland Syddanmark both fell to eSweden. If eSweden had conquered all three regions, the eSerbian political takeover (PTO) of eDenmark would have been eliminated before their legislation for an alliance with eSerbia could enter into law; since Hovedstaden survived, the law will pass and guarantee further ties between eDenmark and their new Phoenix overlords.

In response, Phoenix initiated three resistance wars (RW) to spread eSweden’s war making capability and to take back any lost eDanish regions. A RW which started in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg, a naturally eGerman region, threatens to undermine eSweden’s source of high grain and has been pushed into the underground despite receiving some eSwedish defense. This maneuver placed pressure on eSweden, forcing the EDEN member to choose between prioritizing its grain source's defense in comparison to continuing the attack on eDenmark. Meanwhile, Midtjylland, a strategic eDanish region occupied by eSweden which also borders the eUnited Kingdom, saw a second RW take place; were Midtjylland to be won by the Resistance Force-- even if eSweden won all three of their attacking campaigns-- the eDanish government would still function because of this one region. A final RW in Mecklenberg-Western Pomerania is in the underground as it is of minimal strategic importance for eSweden to maintain control of this eGerman region which holds 43 citizens and no material resources-- that being said, it is siphoning off damage from other battles by drawing away eSwedish two-clickers. Fake eSerbian orders are also targeting the two-clickers in order to make their RWs more effective, a common military tactic in eRepublik.

Because eSweden’s initial attacks fell short, eDenmark’s eSerbian-controlled government will gain more time to solidify itself and sign additional mutual protection pacts (MPPs) with Phoenix countries, involuntarily aligning a small neutral country closer with Phoenix. I never have supported PTOs and steadfastly oppose the use of political takeover in eRepublik (look far enough back through my articles and you will see my stances on other PTOs, including EDEN-inspired ones, so stop trolling me until you read them), as I consider PTOs in any form to be unsavory tactics which my paper has criticized in previous articles. Because the PTOers kept control, Phoenix has gained an important “ally” in Northern Europe who holds borders with EDEN countries in Scandinavia. eDenmark could become a Phoenix launching point for attacks on several EDEN powers if the PTO group has time to solidify its control and successfully elects a like-minded President in the upcoming elections cycle.

On the other side of the coin, eSweden’s successes would have undone the pending MPP between eSerbia and eDenmark, which could have mitigated the Phoenix threat in Northern Europe-- but only if the Midtjylland RW also failed as well. Moreover, eSweden’s need to secure Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg would keep their newly gained high grain under control. It seems unlikely that without EDEN intervention, however, eSweden could win all the battles involved, and that Phoenix will make gains in the coming day.
