Stories of the Guar😛 Kentucky III

A continuation of the Defense of Kentucky...

By: Haliman

”You’re insane.” His eyes were fixed on that tank. ”There’s no chance in hell this is gonna work” I said. He turned to me.

”You learned how to drive one of these a while back, didn’t you? You can get us out of here.” He started to climb it.

”No. I learned how to drive the Abrams. Not this dinosaur.” He looked offended. Like I had just insulted him. ”She’s a beauty. You know that. Get in.”

Against all better judgement, I jumped inside of the tank. After figuring out where everything, I was ready. I started the engine up, and we started to pull out of the garage.

Rick pointed up. ”Bring em’ down.” I saw a guard tower. Judging by how fast they were moving, they saw us too. We took aim, and fired. The tower went up like a firework. The base’s sirens started going off. Rick climb up to the hatch and got on the machine gun.

We were driving, it seemed, for days. In reality, it only took them a few minutes to take us out. But we blew the gate. I think that’s all Rick and I ever planned to do.

There was a flash of white. And then smoke everywhere. I looked around. Everything was moving so slowly. Rick was screaming, but I couldn’t hear him. All I heard was a loud ringing in my ears. But he was pointing at the smoke. He took out his pistol, and started shooting. I looked over, and saw dozens of bodies emerging from the smoke. I took out my pistol, and started shooting.

Bang. Bang. Bang.

They were still coming at me.

Bang. Bang. Bang.

I look over at Rick. He was smiling. Then he nodded at me. We both knew it was the end of the road.

Bang. Bang. Click.

The ringing went away. Everything was moving normal again. The Spaniards got closer, but abruptly stopped. They took aim at us, and I closed my eyes.

And then I heard gunfire. There was a lot of it. I opened my eyes, and saw that where the Spanish once stood, nothing more. I turned around, and I saw soldiers running through the gate. ”Americans...” I whispered to myself. ”The reinforcements made it!” Rick screamed.

They had army patches on. A few of them helped Rick off the ground, and started to carry him out of the base. I started to pull myself up, when I felt my leg go limp. There was a piece of tank wreckage that pierced my leg. The pain was unbearable. A soldier that was helping Rick ran to my aid. They got me up, and helped me walk out. ”What’s your name, soldier?” I asked, trying to hide the pain.

”The name’s Kria Erikson.” She smiled at me.
