Phoenix Defends Liaoning, Loses Limpopo, Day 904

Day 904, 09:47 Published in USA USA by Lieutenant Scheisskopf

Following a massive, albeit unsuccessful, push by the eUS and EDEN against eSerbian-occupied Liaoning on Day 903, and other unsuccessful EDEN attacks in Europe, focus on Day 904 shifted back to Europe and a newly started fight which successfully made eSouth Africa whole while removing eArgentina from the African continent.

eSerbia’s flag remained flying over Liaoning as Day 904 dawned in the New World

Serbia, Phoenix Secure Liaoning from Chinese Attack
At 23:52 on Day 902, eChina and its backers launched a bold attack on eSerbian-held Liaoning, the iron region on which its economy has become reliant and with which it has prospered for nearly 3 months. After initial gains before the server reset, the attackers' element of surprise was negated and the wall in Liaoning loomed at nearly 2 million damage points for much of the fight; fierce tanking by the eUS and some EDEN members in the closing minutes shortened the gap, but did not break past the secure line. Phoenix and eSerbia won a hard-fought victory (statistics) to keep iron-rich Lion King under its control, as the battle witnessed 14.5 million damage and over 8,000 gold spent by both sides. The eUSA, for now, has lost its first effort to give eSerbia a super proxy hug and wrest the region directly by eChinese action. It remains to be seen, however, if the eUSA will acquire a war with eSerbia, either by the game enabling a declaration of war to be made, or through other means.

EDEN Remains on the Attack in Eastern Europe
While the fight for eSerbia’s iron lifeline ensued in Asia, eRomania and eCroatia continued their fights with their neighbors in Eastern Europe. eRomania remained on the offensive after eHungary and its 19 activated mutual protection pacts (MPPs) secured Southern Great Plain midday on Day 903, by quickly attacking the Northern Great Plain to keep the Phoenix power initiative-locked and unable to launch a counterattack for another day. For their part, the eCroats turned to Western Transdanubia early in Day 904 after their previous attack on Southern Transdanubia closed in Phoenix’s favor.

EDEN’s attacks continue on Day 904, but success on the eHungarian front remains elusive

However, the EDEN attackers now face two major issues on the eHungarian front. First, eCroatia has been unable to penetrate eHungary’s borders on this latest offensive, even with its 15MPPs in support; eRomania’s diversion attacks have exposed the country and require eCroat victories against eHungary in order to eliminate the threat of a Phoenix counterstrike. Failure to do so will allow the tables to turn drastically in Eastern Europe in the coming days should eHungary choose to attack with their 19 activated MPPs-- even though eRomania has 15 non-activated MPPs of their own-- if and when EDEN loses initiative. Second, eRomania and eCroatia’s attacks are now nearly 12 hours apart, which gives the advantage to the defense in seeing how both fights are going and allocating fighters where needed to keep both secure. On a front where EDEN needs to see success, this second fact will make it that much harder to attain under the present circumstances.

Meanwhile, eRomania encountered some success against the eBulgarians, as the EDEN member’s conquest of Ruse in Day 904’s early hours put the eBulgarin capital and main fortress region, Sofia, under fire at 06:11 the same day. The battle has been pushed slightly into the underground in its first few hours, but an eRomanian victory in Sofia would almost certainly be contested by eSerbia, who would be able to attack the region without activating eRomania’s MPPs-- a scenario which we saw take place back on Day 795 (history lessons FTW). Had eRomania been successful in Varna earlier in Day 904, the fight in Sofia would be much more important since that would be eBulgaria’s final major hub, but the Phoenix member still holds a remaining Q5 in Plovdiv which would hold as a final resort for eBulgaria’s defense. All the while, eCroatia has continued its attacks on eSlovenia by striking Upper Carniola, but it is apparent that eCroatia is not pursuing victory on this front and just using it to keep their small Phoenix adversary in check.

eSouth Africa seeks to be the only country in Africa, by striking
Limpopo and hoping to remove eArgentina from there

South Africa Becomes Whole, Retakes Limpopo
Although eSouth Africa did face an attack on Day 903 from eBrazil, the strike at Northern Cape was not seriously contested and went largely overlooked in the international stage. International attention returned to eSA in the closing minutes of Day 903, however, when the eUSA began its latest attempt to free native eSA regions, descending upon eArgentina’s diamond haven of Limpopo and rapidly tanking the wall towards the underground line before server reset. The battle fluctuated between the underground and secure lines, drawing substantial international intervention on both sides in the closing hours, as eSA wanted desperately to become whole, while eArgentina and Phoenix sought to hold on the high diamond (soon to be high titanium in V2) region. Furious tanking headlined the battle's final minutes, but a eUS military thrust put the wall into the underground and unified eSA as Limpopo was overrun by the invading forces just before server reset.

Closing
Phoenix met success as Day 903 came to a close, by batting off eUS/EDEN’s latest attempt to retake Liaoning while also stymying eRomanian and eCroat attacks in Europe. Without the need to defend Liaoning for now, there is a chance we may see eSerbia intervene on eBulgaria’s behalf if their Phoenix ally experiences another setback against eRomania. We saw, also, a slew of international militaries flood eSA and eArgentina, to help their respective ally seek victory in Limpopo before the sun sets in the New World on Day 904; at the end of the day, however, the eSA flag flew high over Limpopo and a unified country.

God Bless America,
