One man's response to the Immigration Question

Day 2,138, 14:39 Published in Canada Canada by Dillan Stone

I'm writing this in response to Maximus Decimus.Meridius's recent article, Immigration Question

First of all, I do want to thank whoever it was who approved my application.

The economic reality for those of us who built companies so we could self-support at least some military action without a credit card is that, at tax rates of 10% or above, it actually makes more sense to not work then to work. Like many others, I accepted the necessity of a 5% rate to fund various government operations, but I simply can't operate at 10% - when the rate was stuck at 25%, I was reduced to putting what few guns I had left on the market at 99999 so I could barefist for candy bars; had to leave my Q6 weapons idle. That's no way to liberate a country either.

I'm gonna make this pledge, however: Back a long time ago during the first eUS wipe, I moved to eGreece, which was then the best allied option. The deal was, we live there, we participate in the economy, but we do not interfere with the domestic politics, because we were transients. And I was totally ok with that.

I say this as someone who refused to fight against Canada when my former government went from stupid to idiotic and decided to invade the north. And I say this as someone who has seldom directly been involved in politics since joining the game years ago (I've run for Congress twice, most recently in 2010 when I lived in eMexico)

I pledge, on my personal honor, that I will not vote in any eCanadian election for Congress, President, or Party President, which occurs in September, October or November of 2013, nor will I join any political party during those dates. I think two months (as September is nearly over) is a fair delay for myself and others new to eCanada to learn about the politics of our new home before attempting to influence them directly.

I'm not demanding others to take such a pledge, but rather inviting those similarly situated to myself to show good faith as we enter into the process of integrating into eCanadian society.

So, uh... I don't have to learn French, do I? Je peux parler un peu, mais mon orthographie, c'est horrible! 😃
