My Thoughts on Spectrum

Day 889, 00:03 Published in United Kingdom Pakistan by Longbaugh

As you have undoubtedly heard, over the last week there was a mysterious ad campaign and a handful of articles proclaiming that something big would happen on the 26th of April. The mysterious campaign was launched by a likewise mysterious organization: the aptly-titled 26-04-10.

The first article, containing a single image...

...went on to garner 220+ votes. Many people speculated on many things. Temujin94 thought it might be the launch of v2. Dodgy Dude and Donaldus declared it was yet another incarnation of Ajay Bruno. Bob Boblo said it might be an impeachment vote. Awesommmez postulated that it might be the Avatar DVD release (the dumbest of all predictions).

Then, two days later a second article was released; also containing a single image...

Numerous citizens continued to go about their armchair detective work. Many were sure it was government-connected as the donations and timing seemed to accredit such a theory until, finally, a third article was released on Sunday. This article also contained a single image reminding everyone to "set their alarms" for 16:00 eRepublik time.

Yesterday it was revealed by the same organization, in the same newspaper, that the Radical Freethinkers Alliance is now known as Spectrum.

Amidst the incessant crying and whining that has largely been coming from members of The Unity Party (what the hell else is new), I only have this to say: Andy Millward launched a brilliant press campaign and owned a spot in the top five articles for a full week. I've known that the RFA has been mulling over a re-branding for quite some time. At first I was too enthusiastic as I was completely fine and comfortable with the monochromatic Radical Freethinkers Alliance that I initially joined back in February. And, much to my surprise this very large and much-talked about hype campaign turned out to be about my party.

When I was first linked to the article on IRC yesterday afternoon I wasn't too thrilled. "Spectrum?" I asked. "I'm not sure I like it. But I think I can get used to it." After all, the name makes sense for a party that has—above all other parties—striven to take over the middle and be a refuge for those who aren't interested in hyperactive party politics. It's also simple, concise, and employs a polychromatic color scheme. So, the symbolism behind it all is just about perfect.

In the end, all Andy Millward did was post three articles; each containing one image. He garnered 559 votes in the process. As a co-PP of the party, he did nothing if not figure out a brilliant way to get people looking in our direction. I'd like to add that all of this was done in the aftermath of UK's finest resigning his post as party president just a few days after he had won the April 15th election.

All of you who are complaining are suffering from manufactured outrage. The old adage "There is no such thing as bad press" is still true, friends. The talk of the entire UK political circle is the newly-minted Spectrum. Any political strategist worth his skin knows that a situation like that would benefit any party. So, if you like, I invite you to keep on typing furious responses and pretending that you're not just pissed because you got hooked in.

Meanwhile, we'll move on.

To anyone looking to get involved with us, simply join our party and apply for access to our party forum on the larger eUK Forum. If you're flat-out frustrated with the backwards intellect and primitive conduct of your own party, we welcome you too. We can be found on IRC in #spectrum.

That's the fundamental perpetuity of our party. Everyone is invited and everyone is welcome. In our halls you'll be relieved of the arrogance of The Unity Party and the nothing-but-lulz atmosphere of The Real Spamicans.

Spectrum is where it's at.
