Citizens of America, some of us are still confused.
Today, I read a troubling article written by one of our citizens.

Its an article authored by a newer citizen, Eric IceMetal. In it, he writes about doing more for our country and states he would fight if his wellness was higher. He seems interested in this game and genuinely concerned. He is just a little misguided, which reflects a failure on our part. Please vote this and the linked articles up to help communicate the importance of this issue to Americans. We have to get the message out to citizens who are confused about state residence in eRep.
The problem? He is in North Carolina. North Carolina has a Q1 hospital. Even if he was well enough to fight, he could only fight ONE time and heal. I can relate to wanting to play eRepublik from your home state. I'm from Ohio, and when I first started I did the same thing, started in my home state. In this game, your state residence doesn't matter except for one thing only, voting for a congressman. One day out of the month, you need to be in your home state, that's it. The rest of the month, you are not an Ohioan or a North Carolinian, you are an AMERICAN.
Q5 Hospital regions afford our citizens the opportunity to fight FIVE times per day and heal. These hospitals cost hundreds of gold, so they are strategically located. We have three: Florida, California, and Karnataka.
It is imperative that you move to these regions and fight for your country from there. State residence doesn't matter. You can fight from Cali and work in Alabama. IT DOES NOT MATTER.
Americans, we need you to move to these regions to maximize your fight potential and help defend our country. eRepublik is set up so we all fight as Americans, not Ohioans or Georgians or New Englanders.
MOVE TO OUR Q5 REGIONS, DEFEND OUR COUNTRY, America needs every soldier we have and fighting 5 times a day to retake our lost regions is key.

well said, im new as well and il also very intrested in this game, and its politics, however i am confused with some key points with this game, i wont go into detail as it would just be considered spam at this point.
Well said! It's difficult to reach the newest citizens, are there links to some of this from the welcome message (or are they link saturated as they arrive, do you think?) Discovering, and helping, the new can be great fun, too!

Who's stupid idea was it to only have three Q5 hospitals? I wonder how many failed operations our tax money have gone to instead of more hospitals. And who decided to put one in Kansas, a meagerly populated state instead of California?
@Bart - ????? where did you come from? Bart this topic has been talked about a thousand times, and not once did I see your name pop up in the discussions on the us forums or irc. How stupid would we have looked if we had q5 hospitals in all the states that were lost? Chill out.

If all citizens go away from state - it become weak. So stay at state which you want to defend.

The idea behind having few Q5 hospitals was to concentrate population in some areas, so that the starting wall would be higher in those regions (eg Florida).
The Q5 in Kansas was put there to act as an 'Alamo', a Q5 region deep into US territory that provides a fallback option.
Lumin, that article basically shows how poorly thought out this is. Obviously there were other threats and having only a few Q5's is killing us. Take just one state--New York--with 1231 citizens and only a Q3. That's 2462 fights lost PER DAY in just ONE STATE. We've been averaging around 40-45 damage per fight so that's at least 98K damage PER DAY that we are losing FROM JUST ONE STATE. How much was that wall worth again?
I never said there shouldn't be more hospitals, just explaining the reasoning behind the current setup.
Look, now is not he time to arguing over this. What's done is done, and we have much bigger problems on our hands, like fighting off invaders. Just relax and follow orders. We have to make do with the best that we can
@Bart Johnson, your analysis is flawed. Of the 1231 citizens in New York, less than 100 have their health above 90, and less than 500 have their health above 40. It's a common mistake. Even of those players that are maintaining a high health, not all of them fight more than once a day. Seriously.
Also, the populace in New York is comprised almost entirely of Privates/Corporals, over 85% of them, and you get not very much damage missing.
Add in the fact it runs 400g for hospital and the lost damage per gold is actually very low.
That said, there are plans to expand the hospitals in the US, and CA and NY are at the top of the list, if it happens. But, even when it does, I don't expect the number of additional fights to go up more than 300-400. And the total missing damage will be about 15k per day, and that's if all of those citizens fight with Q1s for each of their 5 fights, otherwise it's a dismal 6.5k if they fight barefisted. That's about 34 damage per gold (14 if barefisted). Which if you assume we spend on a tank, we'd easily get 5x-12x that amount.
Over the long haul, like this war, it MIGHT be better to have a Q5 in New York, maybe. The more directed damage of a tank following orders over the scattershot effect you'd get from an ill-informed general populace is another strike against more Q5s; as is the dilution of walls in NJ and FL.
The bottom line is, it's not a trivial decision, and not obvious in any way.

Like Hawaii and Alaska. Whit having q5 hospitals there and move 1-1 thousand citizen you Secured all of west America.
Insted of this you put to above 2000 people ( 4000 in Florida ) to too place in East America where at least 4 other points to attack. Why would someone attack the strongest point when there is a 400 man State to attack?
Insted you should have spread these people to 1 or 1,5 thousand in one region to these 4-5 regions so there will be a lower wall in 2 place but better defence in all and much more expensive for the attacker. ( You know every battle start cost 50 Gold plusz 25% of the population of the attacked region ).
Whit only the 2 forst you will starve to death becouse these regions dont have any grain.
@James, thank you for the stats, but it doesn't change my opinion. The walls in FL and NJ are pointless as they don't block anything. If we are going to focus on specific states they should be choke points like Alaska. The only thing the walls protect, ironically, is the Q5 hospitals.
Also, the lost damage per gold increases over time. That's every single day, and over a long war like this how much will it add up to? Money spent on buddies of the government (aka tanks) is a one time deal.
@Bart Johnson and Peterbond Here Here I agree with you guys once we lost eAlaska where it all started our leaders and alot of soilders and citizens stated that " oh well who cares about eAlaska it wasn't ours to begin with, let them have it ".
This kind of additude didn't make sence to me cause it just opened the door for eRussia and now there allies to walk all over our country and take our states one by one. And I still see this kind of additude cause these states apparently are not that big of a deal to majority of the leaders.
I mean your country is like your house you want to protect it from all angles the best you can, not just the front and say the hell to the sides and back. Where was the logic in not making sure eAlaska was protected and important to us. And now like you said we lost eHawaii. I think PEACE is being underestimated, they might not worry about keeping our states but, they are wanting to destroy our country and turn it upside down.
I think this is why alot of new players like myself is and was frustrated cause it didn't make sence to us. Plus our leader's and the elder game players didn't give logical explanations they just ridiculed what we wrote, put down smart remarks to try and turn us away from questioning their ways.
But, now they realized after we are losing more and more states that they need us new players more then they thought and are now giving the NOOB's more info. and respect, along with reasonable explanations instead of put downs. SO BITCH NOOBS BITCH cause it will get you the answers you might be looking for.
They couldn't shut us up with bullying and intimidation so they had to start helping us more the right way. NOOBS are people too.

If you would take the time to read back through my paper you will see I have been trying to spread information to everyone since I first started. Look, we face a unified army in Peace that is powerful enough to take some of our regions no matter what we do. That is a fact.
So the government publishes daily orders, and we write articles to help Americans get it, which is why I often write in the first place. I have said it a million times, information is the key to citizen retention and involvement. Its true that a lot of old players are rude, but don't lump me into the suck, cause I do what I can, always have.

Lets take time to ask what makes the eUSA different, and move beyond the bull 50 regions excuse. Answer that and we start to move forwards, slowly.

There are 2 or 3 of these in the US.
Giving up land in the short term is a valuable and well understood military tactic. Had we invested all in at Alaska or Hawaii or wherever, we'd be in worse shape than we are now.
What makes the US different is that it has a huge zombie population that either sits there and does nothing or two-clicks its life away. When this is over I hope we will more strategically place our hospitals though.
The breathtaking irony is that many of the eCitizens in other nations are actually Americans. Reckon that.
From what I understand most of North Korea is made up of Americans who were sick of how eUSA was managed.
Exactly. If we want to have an eUSA left we need to accept this and think differently in the context of the Game.

The best point made in this thread by a frustrated person is that America was poorly defended in that we did not have the tanking leaders you speak of correctly placed when Russia began attacking. Russia does not take Alaska if all of America's leaders who American taxes pay for the tanks of were home. We have some people adventuring around the globe on our dime.
Currently I have not been able to get any friends registered who want to register as citizens of eUS. I have written the developers but for 6 days now they have not sent the registration email. I am suspicious that is not the case in Russia and Indonesia and Hungary, because another friend was able to register at Malaysia and get an immediate registration email.
If this game is one in which the developers make it harder for the U.S. to succeed, and the U.S. leadership creates high taxes while losing a war against powers who are laughably weak in real life, many eU.S. players will leave the U.S. under the citizenship model to become citizens in a different country.

That's just asinine. Do you really believe that there aren't 40 noobs for every skill 7 worker? The majority of taxes are paid by the massive number of low level players.
It seems your personal gain was more important to you than the nation. This is why we fail more than any Q5 placement.
