Military and Politics: Working Together, Day 797-798

Day 798, 16:06 Published in USA USA by Lieutenant Scheisskopf

Day 797 was most notable for its political elections and with it, attempts of political takeover (PTO) or anti-PTO efforts. Lost in the shuffle, but every bit as important for Election Day, were the military campaigns initiated for political purposes. If a few battles in Europe and Asia looked unusual to you in the past couple of days, they probably were-- they were just in anticipation or response to local Congressional elections.

Fortunately, we have a little more choice than this 😃

The Philippines and Malaysia
Maybe the most unexpected military activity surrounding Election Day was eMalaysia’s region swap of Visayas and Mindanao, which took place to prevent a PTO by the long-infamous Channers, who have ravaged eVenezuela and made an attempt on eSouth Africa, amongst other nations, in the past. Because the Channers were running in those two regions, the ePhilippines' action served as a self-inflicted wound to sever a potentially cancerous region in order to keep the Channers' cancerous influence from infecting the ePhilippines' government as they had done to others.

Hekter, a former eUS citizen and currently the President of the ePhilippines, explained the need shortly after the region swaps. The attention-obsessed Channers have not taken it lying down, however, starting an open letter in protest-- I wonder what sympathies a group that wants to ruin eRepublik would receive by petitioning the players of eRepublik. Your guess is as good as mine.

Switzerland
On Day 796, eSpain moved on three eSwiss regions: Graubunden, Svizzera italiana, and Deutschschweiz, conquering all three regions and leaving eSwitzerland with the Romandie region and a smaller Congress to elect. Their main concern was the PTO organization known as the Shaolins, whose members were working with the Swiss Neutrality Party and Tewionist Party of Switzerland to win the Congress. It should also be noted, but is not related to this article, that conquering the eSwiss regions gave eSpain a larger land border with eItaly to continue its attack.

Unlike the eMalaysian incident, the eSpanish intervention was publicly disclosed and citizens were encouraged to move to Romandie beforehand. Despite the planning and perhaps because of its publicity, the PTO organization was still able to secure a good portion of the eSwiss government in the upcoming month. Since resistance wars (RW) are currently underway to return the eSwiss regions, it seems likely that the parties which the PTO backed will remain in power; the alternative would be for eSpain to conquer Romandie and the newly relinquished Deutschschweitz regions.

Other PTO Activity
The main focus of this article was on the military action brought on by PTOs, but other takeover attempts and counters were waged, as well. PTO and anti-PTO campaigns included voting booths across the world, but I am especially glad to see that an attempted PTO in eJapan which I had previously covered was put down. Much more information on this election and the suspected PTO are included in this article.
A group of real life (RL) Hungarians living in eMalaysia and calling itself Adeptus Custodes secured some level of representation in eMalaysia, but will form a minority in government. They have no disclosed connection to the eHungarian government and have been described as living in exile; regardless, were Adeptus Custodes to have ties to eHungary, this small foothold will enable citizenship requests to be approved and could impact Sol’s war games.
There were also the contested elections in eBelgium, in which a Phoenix-friendly party contended with EDEN-backed candidates, although the eBelgian story has been told elsewhere at length. Although the eSpanish returned eBelgium to the map last week, eBelgium’s impact on the war in Europe will hinge on who the eBelgian government ends up calling its friends and with whom they look to form mutual protection pacts (MPPs). Neither side is in the right to intervene in internal eBelgian affairs, and I hope EDEN and Phoenix both leave eBelgium to govern itself-- this may be too much to ask.
Finally, the eUSA noticed some electoral irregularities of its own, as ligtreb notes that 5 non-endorsed and probably foreign candidates were elected. In a system with over 50 Congress seats, their impact will be minimal on the policymaking side, but they will hold the keys to eUS citizenship.

I hope to be writing more about the war soon, but since some of these may have military reverberations, figured they should be covered by a war-focused newspaper 🙂

God Bless America,

Lt. Scheisskopf
