Letter to the Next CP
Vyrin the First
No matter who gets elected, please listen!
I fear that all the time and energy of the government will continue to be drained unproductively on foreign affairs, dividing eAussies and producing predictable results.
Let's face it: no CP has ever been able to make lasting inroads in foreign affairs, and if we do get regions back it's only a short prelude to another wipe.
Why? It's pretty obvious, but we haven't fully accepted it as an eNation.
~ We are too small to have any bargaining power.
~ We are surrounded by enemies.
~ There is no international sanction for lying or betrayal, therefore countries like Chile, the US and all in COT can do it at will.
~ Countries who help us only do so for their own limited interests - friendship and history don't really matter here like in real life.
~ We have very little to offer any alliance, and a ton of baggage.
It's just the way the game works, and we have to face it. Therefore spending all our time fretting over MPP's and moving towards alliances will only continue to make this game as un-fun as possible.
Please don't play the same old foreign affairs game just because YOU find it fun.
What if we went a completely different way - totally out of the box? For example, go rogue and sell our daily orders to the highest bidder. Or, start an alliance of puny countries and laugh and have fun with it. Call it ROADKILL. I don't care what you do but what I do know is that we can't have more of the same.
Please no more foreign affairs as usual. Don't be idealistic and believe this time with YOU at the helm it will work!
Do SOMETHING, please SOMETHING that is not more of the same.
Comments
Nothing against Tim or Crumpets, but no one can really fix the bad situation of eAUS.
well lets just roll over and die since we are utterly useless vyrin 😛
Nicky please. How does my whole article and last phrase "Do Something" = roll over and die?
I'm saying don't do the same old things in which we are stuck. We can still have a lot of fun without being delusional that we can be a player on the world stage. But it will take CREATIVITY and something truly DIFFERENT.
I agree with you on this Vyrin - There is no international sanction for lying or betrayal, therefore countries like Chile, the US and all in COT can do it at will.
It's pretty sad we have no one at the moment we can turn to to keep those nations honest.
Like I said on IRC last night, it seems imperialism is the flavour of the month with the bigger nations at the moment.
I have taken Vyrins article as having an optimistic flavour.
We just have to rise above things
We are too small to have any bargaining power.
We are surrounded by enemies.
Countries who help us only do so for their own limited interests
We have very little to offer any alliance, and a ton of baggage.
let me be more specific
your first statement says that no country has any reason to deal with us because we have no "bargaining power" your second statement says we will always be screwed cuz nobody around us LIKES us next statement says the only we we will get help is if they get something in return but since we have nothing too give them they wont deal with us (refer ti your first and last statement) your last statement openly says that nobody WANTS us to be in their alliance
so your right made a dumbed it down too much but the article boils down to "nobody likes us cuz we aren't powerful enough to do anything so why should we even try to be friends with the outside world"
Nicky - I am optimistic about what we can do. But it can't be old-school negotiating. That has been tried by so many people here so many times. Old-school negotiating relies on having bargaining power - it's just a fact that we don't. And there are things that make negotiating in eRepublik even harder than in real life. Sorry if that upsets you... but I'm simply trying to state facts.
I'm actually advocating that we increase the fun by being CREATIVE and DIFFERENT in the way we behave in the world. This is a game after all and if we're tethered to a real version of foreign affairs, we will continue to be frustrated and at each others throats.
My article only has a give-up message in the sense of giving up what has proven time and time again not to work. That's why i say no more foreign affairs "as usual."
I'm advocating moving into the realm of trying new things - giving us new hope and new possibilities. Hope you will eventually see that...
We could go and fight as mercenaries but we cannot ever sell our services to the two countries that treat us like we are useless idiots that don't have intelligence. I reckon we fight with whoever is fighting Chile, the Chileans must be taught that we will come at them every day, forever and ever and ever, never let them rest. The French resistance in WWII never gave the nazis a days rest, they attacked non-stop, regardless of casualties. The thing is to resist. I also think we just must get new friends, if we can't well, theres nothin left to do but find a new game.
i suppose i see your point....the only problem is we are in a game with certain game mechanics which damper on wht we can do no matter how much creeativity there is
one of the flaws of the game i suppose
Yes, I know the point you're at. I think that's the real point when you become an adult eRepublik citizen. When your simple expectations and optimism for what this game could be are crushed by the reality! lol
This has been happening for the past 5 years. We've tried EVERYTHING.
But nothing will change the fact our nation can't win.
well if you are defeated we are in trouble, the problem is no one in real life Australia has ever heard of this game, we should be able to get 10,000 Aussies playing the game, but seriously mate, the general negativity around here must be driving at least half our newest recruits away from the game.
The reason why foreign affairs is a mess is because CPs who think they know it all fk over the people who do it on a daily basis. It's a game mechanics position that's infiltrated by personalities and a whole lotta bullsht that doesn't belong in it. Until CPs get that through their heads and quit playing games with the people doing the job, it will remain part of the political football.
That coming from you Mick is really quite rich.
Maybe if you stopped playing behind-the-scenes political games yourself and were in the least bit transparent about your motivation I would actually believe you.
😁...lol...well, he has you there TJ (Mick)
At least we can start by vowing to never speak to those two nations, and from now on I will TRY to just call then C***1 and C***2
LOL maybe those names will catch on around here, well, live and hope... incidentally C***1 is Chile, no prizes for guessing the other one.
