Issue 26

Day 607, 22:39 Published in USA USA by Pantops Incorporated

The current list of finished battles in the French-Canadian war shows that Manitoba, Nunavut, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia have all been lost to PEACE forces. However, the US has again gone on the offensive to retake the Canadian region of Manitoba - the battle is just beginning, and very little PEACE presence has yet been seen in this fight. Nonetheless, this strategy of counterattacking across our ally's borders shows promise in turning the tide in this war of attrition.

Meanwhile, the US has lost Alaska, Washington, and Idaho to Russia. Canadian forces are counterattacking in Washington and Alaska in an attempt to stall the Russian advance while the defenders regroup and push back in Manitoba.

France has been trying to secure their conquered portions of Canada by region swapping with the UK. The British have finally come out and announced that they have joined PEACE, much to no one's surprise. France, apparently not yet done using the UK to region swap, rejected the British government's olive branch earlier this weekend. A proposal currently before the French congress is faring far better.

There has been a steady campaign of resistance wars in an effort to draw damage away from North American battlefields, with some showing more promise than others. The battle in South Australia seems to be going reasonably well for the resistance there, though whether the resistance will help or hinder the cause of Australian independence remains to be seen. Update: This is actually an authorized resistance war and the region will be handed back to Australia. Congratulations to our friends in Oz on this return, and a tip of the hat to Indonesia for making good on its word.

The battle in Southern Basarabia - an effort to drain Romanian damage from North American battlefields - continues, and an inordinate number of Romanian soldiers still seem to be fighting in these regions.

Once again, for maps of the world war to date, check out Evighet's Opinion.

PEACE has continued to reaffirm its alliances, with Indonesia and Italy, France and Portugal, Portugal and Brazil, Brazil and Italy, Brazil and France, and Germany and the UK all allying over the weekend or in the process of doing so.

Norway and Canada are currently voting on an alliance which is likely to pass. The Swiss have also recently allied with Canada.

Poland and Romania recently reaffirmed their friendship and the Polish congress has joined the US and Canada in the embargo of the UK.

The Romanians have been busy in the past few days - they have built a Q5 hospital in Crisana, re-allied with Sweden, Greece, and would have re-allied with Croatia had the Hungarian-controlled Croatian congress not voted the measure down.

Hungary and Estonia became allies earlier this weekend, and the Hungarian congress is currently in the process of voting on ending their war with Italy. This war was begun to swap regions in the recent PEACE reconquest of Germany. Germany also recently accepted the Hungarians' peace proposal.

Japan's vote to end the war with Indonesia was surprisingly close, perhaps because they wanted Indonesia to pay to replace lost infrastructure up front, though this is merely speculation.

Though Russia accepted the UK's olive branch, the Duma ended up rejecting North Korea's peace offer, as this paper predicted. Finland similarly rejected Lithuania's offer of peace.

Argentina's Pampas region received a new Q5 hospital earlier this weekend, as did Moscow in Russia, Hokkaido in Japan, Prekmurje in Slovenia, Great Andes in Peru, Charrua in Uruguay, and Jerusalem in Israel. It would seem the nations of the world are determined to do as much fighting as possible in these war-torn times.

Turkey, because they just had to be different, instead went for a Q4 defense system in Eastern Anatolia and a Q1 defense system in Peloponnese for reasons unknown.

Nations still at war with Chile for the wargames continue to offer that nation peace - Australia, Iran, Brazil, France, Estonia, Turkey, and Ukraine among the most recent. The Chilean congress is quite understandably rubber-stamping the proposals like mad.

China has accepted Russia's peace offer,

Sweden and Greece also became allies this weekend.

While there were several impeachment attempts over the weekend, Latvia's was the only one to succeed. Kurzemes Karalis Kristaps now leads that nation.

If the state you are currently residing in seems about to be lost to the enemy, seek out Chris Stanwick for a free moving ticket to safer ground. He's put in a great deal in the name of our nation - be sure to thank him for his efforts!

Another great resource in this time of war is mjdiv's article Wellness 101 - a high wellness is critical to keeping our nation strong both militarily and economically, and mjdiv's articles are some of the most helpful out there for newer players.

To recap the substantial political upheaval this weekend, the USWP, Libertarians, AAP, and Conservatives all pledged this earlier this weekend to essentially hold the 19th Congress over for another term. This caused some substantial outrage in certain corners - the UIP, Federalists, Democrats, SFP, and Greens' party leaders all opposed the freeze. The USWP then changed its tack, saying that it would be almost entirely withdrawing from the 20th Congressional elections, instead devoting its membership to an anti-TO force. The Libertarians have pledged not to make a power-grab in the vacuum, and are mobilizing their party along similar lines. Even opponents of the vote freeze have made strong statements against politicking during these next elections. This paper feels that there is a high likelihood that foreign nationals will try and infiltrate our elections this 25th - in fact, earlier today, I noticed this Indonesian running for the District of Columbia's seat for the Libertarians - and urges Americans to check their candidate thoroughly before voting this coming Saturday.

During the discussion of how an American PTO might be prevented, wingfield proposed the Sentinel Squadron, an idea with some merit - it would effectively block PEACE from PTOing our congress, and would allow for either a freeze or a primary system to be enacted along with it.

Enoch Root, a friend to whom this humble newspaperman is indebted both figuratively and literally, has recently published a pair of articles concerning the question of the USA's use of PTO's. While normally his paper is an excellent business and financial resource, Enoch has recently shown us that he can use his head for more than just number-crunching - therefore, whichever side of this issue you may be on, I urge you to take a look at the articles in question.

The US has recently backed the wartime tax rate to 25% from 30%.

Finally, on a note of levity, the Federalists invite the top 16 parties (yes, even YOU, France Sucks!) to a Pictionary tournament. It's easy to get stressed out in such times as these, so why not unwind with your fellow party members, and make some friends across the aisle while doing so? (Also, this paper will pay money to see Democrat-Republican and SFP-Capitalist teams in the tourney.)
