How to Expand an Empire

Day 2,175, 01:42 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by HebronGazelle

60/60 resource bonuses, what could be better? Well, we could have a bigger empire and a greater resource bonus. The current CP term now passing, and while our empire has not expanded greatly, it has given the next CP options for more regions and bonuses. If we are to expand, where will we go? This article looks at the 4 resources that our country still needs, and where we are going to get them.

Grain
Grain is one of the two food resources that we still haven't obtained. Grain is a hard resource to find in Western Europe, and it will be even harder for the eUK when our allies are holding them all. The only nearby grain regions are in France, a total of 6 of them are in the centre of that country. Poland hold 5, and Serbia hold the other region. If we are to take them, Poland would have to give them up which is unlikely. If we did take them, it would give France a good opportunity of escaping from their wipe as they are stronger than us so would be able to win a resistance war.

All that grain, we will never see it!

Taking it off allies or defeating stronger countries makes it a very bad option. The only other options would be the head down to the south of Spain or through to Eastern Europe, which are both extremely hard for any country to do from our position on the map. Unless the TWO/CoT wars cause Poland and Serbia to lose regions, we can count grain out.

Deer
Let's move onto a resource we can actually get, deer. When our conquest of Norway is complete we will have two options for adding deer to our empire but both involve taking regions from allies. Jamtland Harjedalen and Svealand are both Swedish regions but are held by our allies Latvia. Jamtland Harjedalen borders a region which is part of our empire, Trondelag. Since Latvia already have the other deer region, it might be possible that they would give us the other. It is currently impossible for us to do a region swap with Latvia as it would cut off the trade links back to our capital(so we wouldn't end up gaining the deer). When we have conquered Norway, we could give the upper two regions to Latvia for that one region.

Target: Deer

The other option is a much stranger one. First, take Northern Russia from Hungary. Second, take Leningrad Oblast from Belarus. Leningrad Oblast is where the deer is. Persuading two allies to give up their regions at the same time just to benefit us is far harder than having a region swap with one.

Saltpeter
This is the part of the article where I break the bad news. Our chances of getting saltpeter in the next month are about 1 in 13,983,816. Let's look at the saltpeter regions. First up is Silesia, the only Polish saltpeter region connected to their capital. Why would one of the strongest countries in the game give their bonus to us? Answer, they wouldn't. Moving onto Tuscany in Italy, it is held by another very strong country known as Serbia. Refer to the question above to why we wont get the region. Thirdly, there is Andalucia in Spain. To get there we would have to go through Polish regions, then through a Serbian region, and after all of that we would have to go to the bottom of Spain. Now you see why the odds are so slim.

Rubber
Fortunately, rubber is obtainable. Unfortunately, Poland hold the only nearby rubber region. Poitou Charentes is a French region that is held by the Polish empire, and it is their only rubber region. Poland will not be giving up this without a fight. Like many people have said, "NE Poland". However, the result is... we would probably be kicked out of TWO and all of our regions would be lost. Or we could blame a stupid Congressman. I guess we can count rubber out as well.

Oh, or we could get wiped trying to take Serbia's...

So, what have we established? Both weapon resources are out of the equation for the upcoming term. Grain is very unlikely to obtain, unless things change quickly meaning France/Poland become weak and give up their regions to us. Deer is what we should be looking at then, a region swap with Latvia is the most likely way to do things. 80/60 resource bonus, here we come...
