Heavy Resistance War Campaign Unfolds in Occupied Russia, Day 1067

It became clear late on Day 1066 and into Day 1067 that the fight to liberate the third of the three Phoenix nations which were conquered on Day 1063 had kicked into high gear, as resistance wars (RWs) flared in five occupied eRussian regions. Phoenix and EDEN seem to be investing themselves heavily in both fronts to sway the outcomes in their favor. Separately, ePortugal is now being attacked on all remaining regions, although its Government is welcoming the move to erase some unwanted adversaries to be allied with eSpain.

USA Secures FER as More Russian Resistance Wars Arise
Although RWs have commonly targeted eUSA-occupied Far Eastern Russia (also known as Far Western Alaska), the RW which started for FER on Day 1066 started ominously for the eUS. eRussia and its Phoenix allies took a large early lead in the race for eight battle phases won, prompting the eUSA to divert much of its attention towards putting down the resistance. Only at 11:06 on Day 1067 did FER return under eAmerican control, after significant gold was spent fighting on both sides and after eRussia managed to win six phases. A major scare was averted after nearly everyone in the eUSA was alarmed enough to fight in the later phases; whether this near success inspires another RW for the region will remain to be seen, and should keep the eUSA uneasy in the coming days.

Day 1067 also gave way to a four-pronged RW campaign backed by eRussia and its Phoenix allies in the 12:00 hour against the four regions occupied by eRomania: Central Black Earth, Urals, North Caucasus, and Volga. It is worth noting that these RWs were started by an eIndonesian, eArgentine, an eBulgarian, and a Turkish-speaking eGreek, demonstrating the widespread Phoenix support for these RWs. In the early going of these battles, eRomania was losing in all except the iron-rich Urals region. However, eRomania and allied backers rallied and successfully won the first three phases of all four RWs. Whether eRomania and EDEN will be able to continue this level of effort and secure all four regions, or whether eRussia and Phoenix rally, will be revealed in the course of Day 1067-1068.

Hungary Attacks Two Native Romanian Territories
Likely as a diversion against the eRussian RWs, eHungary opened two battles for natively eRomanian regions in Day 1067, starting with Banat at 01:55 and continuing at the revolving door of Crisana around midday, probably intended as a damage drain from the eRussian front. Banat was moderately contested by eHungary in the early going, but it appears that eRomania adopted a “bend, but don’t break” strategy in these attacks. That is, while they did not want to lose Banat or Crisana, eRomania tolerated losing a couple of phases to focus more on the eRussian RWs. The strategy seems to have worked flawlessly for eRomania, who secured the eHungarian front while also won all four contested RWs in eRussia.

Spain, USA Invade Portugal
The Iberian Peninsula exploded into renewed conflict, as eSpain and the eUSA each opened battles against undersized ePortugal. While eSpain targeted Algarve, Norte, and Centro, between 11:20 and 11:40, the eUSA added its own attack on the ePortuguese Azores Islands at 11:26; combined, all of ePortugal is targeted and is in danger of being wiped off the map on Day 1068. On the other hand, ePortugal is welcoming the attacks since they will erase eSpanish mutual protection pacts (MPPs) activated against them. At that point, it will be more financially feasible to attempt to RW the regions and only fight eSpain, rather than resisting eSpain and its array of allies. Nevertheless, ePortugal would only have two days to regain a region, or it may be without a government after Day 1070’s elections, becoming vulnerable to political takeover (PTO) in the process.

With eSlovenia and eTurkey both returning to the map, EDEN’s successes in conquering three Phoenix countries earlier this week could be completely erased with any successful RWs by eRussia. Phoenix knows this and is focusing heavily on making it the reality of the New World on Day 1068. In doing so, Phoenix will have successfully thwarted any chance of EDEN occupying these countries on Election Day and blocking their chances at having a Congress. It would be a modest morale boost for Phoenix, but the alliance does still have work to do to make inroads against EDEN.
