Hackings continue, Hungary nearly destroyed.

Day 992, 12:59 Published in USA USA by Sossu

Before the tactical and financial damages caused by the first wave of eRepublik eventslaunched by hacked Phoenix presidents were completely cleared, a new breach of security caused irreversible damage to the nation of Hungary, who got hit by the first wave as well. The hacked presidents of Hungary and Serbia caused a chain reaction where Serbia attacked Pakistan, opening a war with Hungary, followed by an attack on Serbia by Hungary. This erased many of the Hungarian MPP😒, exposing them to an attack from Romania earlier today.

By his own words, the Romanian president Victor Petrescu was hacked as well, and he under the influence of hackers attacked nearly every Hungarian territory, which were then retreated, leading to a Romanian invasion of Hungary. Only Northwest Croatia was not attacked, making it the Hungarian capital and the only region of them for about 20 hours. Later all Hungarian territories have been returned, but the hackers proved they were not quelled yesterday, though Admins claimed they got people working on the issue. The hackings have escalated since yesterday, as real harm was done through the retreats. Yesterday, the hacked president immediately retreated from the attacks they launched, meaning they mostly just reversed MPP-stacks. Also the hackings are beginning to concern Eden nations as well, as the Romanian president was apparently hacked during this second wave of security breaches. No Eden nation has been destroyed or harmed in any way, further confirming the claims the hacker(s) are from Poland as has been suspected.

The source of Gold to start expensive attacks apparently comes from the advertising module, which has been hacked as well during the weekend. Unless admins fix every single loss of MPP😒, Phoenix will suffer from immense tactical disadvantages and financial problems. Hungary has lost their full MPP-stacks against Poland and Romania, which will soon lead to the loss of Podolia, an iron region in Ukraine which Hungary invaded from Romania legitly before the hackings. The Polish president stated he is not responsible from the hackings and thus won’t care about the damages it has caused to Hungary. He launched an attack on Galicia and Lodomeria, which was later invaded as Hungary couldn’t defend it due to the lack of MPP😒 and the confusion it caused. Poland now neighbors Podolia, and they are ought to invade it against Hungary who currently has no president and is in a state of war with the majority of Phoenix nations.

The lost MPP😒 in UK and Hungary will cost over 2000G to recover unless Admins reinstate them. Finland also claimed a free war with the UK due to the chain reaction rule as UK attacked USA. Also the region of Nord-Norge has stayed Finnish despite retreated by the hacked president of UK. Other damages include the occupation of Hungary, which caused lost tax revenues and distress in the political system as every citizen in occupied territories lost their party membership, so every Hungarian party got practically emptied.

The seemingly easy hackings have given a reason for people to protest the administration team and eRepublik Rising as a whole. The hacker posted his thoughts about the entire issue via a citizen message proposal in Hungary, demanding V1 to be re-implemented. Later, a well-known player BattalGazi backed his pleads with an article, mirroring many people’s thoughts that the earlier version of eRepublik was much better than the current one. I lived through the transaction from Beta to V1, and it was just about bug-infested as the switch from V1 to V2. The difference is, that time eRepublik had less than 30,000 players, so bugs didn’t affect to our daily lives that much. Now eRep has 10 times the player base than what it was in 2008, and we expect a little better handling of the modules of the game.

The hackings put Eden in to a precarious situation. Nations of Eden haven’t suffered any harm yet (occupying Hungary wasn’t that bad, I’m sure), but fighting against Phoenix on the other side of the world is basically having advantage of the situation indirectly. eRepublik is a game which is in constant movement, and the smallest crack can crumble the entire pyramid. Like said above, the stance of the Polish president is that Hungary shouldn’t be treated differently even when they couldn’t defend properly from an attack on Galicia & Lodomeria. It remains to be seen if Admins order a rematch with the right MPP😒 on Hungary’s side.
In general, the warfare of Eden has been smoother due to the distress inside Phoenix. For instance, Hungarian soldiers can’t travel directly to any relevant Phoenix nation, and today their effort on the fields of war via the remaining MPP😒 has been greatly reduced. Even if the hackings are a completely separate issue, there is a moral dilemma in attacking nations that are under influence of severe breaches in security.
