Fun times with alliances

I generally stay out of things, particularly nowadays when I've basically quit, but this EDEN stuff made me feel like commenting.

We have, of course, apparently left EDEN. No real referendum occurred, it's mainly the result of an incompetent and largely butthurt government dealing with what appears to be a rather sub-standard EDEN HQ and completely shitting bricks over it. I mean seriously, I've seen no Australian representation other than myself in #eden.military all month, and don't give me that shit about the CP not having access because I got my access from LANCER HIMSELF ON DAY 1, and subsequently offered to help anyone else getting access (and of course was never asked).

But that's not really my topic here, most people know I'm a staunch EDEN supporter and I disagree with leaving the alliance, but it's not really my say.
So, of course, now I'm going to haphazardly comment on anything I feel like.

One of the favourite complaints of Australians is 'Oh noes EDEN never helps us'. This is wrong. More accurate would be 'EDEN rarely wins for us'.

We get lots of help from EDEN, particularly when we actually schedule a battle with them (which of course has not happened this term). We get millions from our EDEN allies, in bigger battles they can sometimes do more damage for us than we do ourselves. This does not however always result in victory, and as such results in the childish whining that EDEN never helps.

On the other hand, the reason we do not get wins, is simply that we do not get taken seriously as a country by EDEN. EDEN is of course a Euro-centric alliance. eRepublik is a Euro-centric game. It's expected that Euro countries will worry about Euro countries. But while China and even Brazil and USA who aren't even EDEN receive respect and support (as in non-military) from EDEN countries, Australia as a small, out of the way, often wiped country, is generally dismissed. For every ally that hits for us when we have an important battle up as an EDEN Prio, another will simply go 'Pshhh, Australia, what've they done for EDEN' and proceed to fight elsewhere.

What we have done, is nearly two years of fighting for allies regardless of what we get in return. One thing I've seen many repeating in the EDEN articles is that 'everyone is having a bad time'. The discontent with EDEN is not a new thing. Us being wiped is definitely not a new thing. We have been wiped for a large portion of our existence, even during golden ages of EDEN when they're burning through Serbia or Hungary or Turkey or whatever the target of the day is. Simply dismissing Australian complaints as being something new is quite frankly hilarious.

Again, this does stem in part from incompetent Australian leadership, as many EDEN HQs are open to helping Australia a little and battles can get support if someone actually bothers to communicate with EDEN about it (and if they're not wasting massive amounts of resources on useless wars with Serbia or something, I suppose).



One thing that really annoyed me was the above and it's following comments over on this article by EDEN PR guy Wallachian.

Now sure, you don't like us leaving, and you're not a fan of Australia brokering a deal with Indo, neither am I. However, I honestly find it disgusting to see an ally, particularly one from HQ who is meant to represent EDEN and brotherhood, act like that when a country is barely out of the alliance, many people disagreeing with the decision and still holding EDEN dear.
The fact that such a 180 occurs simply goes to show the lack of any respect given to Australians, as apparently we are all now cowards and traitors when our government of like 3 actives has made a deal. Generalizing an entire country of people is complete and utter stupidity.

Take Brazil for example. A few months back, Brazil wanted to RW WA out from under Indo for whatever reason, despite that we were at the time under deal with Indo to keep ourselves on the map, and as such if they had've RW'd the region we would have been wiped by Indo (luckily one was on elsewhere so they couldn't).
Brazil had zero contact with Aus about their plans, and should have been aware of the deal (USA and NSC (who didn't contact us either), which I learned this from, definitely should have known about our situation).

Or the time that China promised us assistance if Indo were to attack us, and then once Indo attacked us, China decided it was the perfect time to go attack Iran, and completely ignored us.

Did I go around condemning Brazil or China as traitorous villains? No, because that would be stupid. Countries are more than just a few people, decisions aren't made by everyone and as such we shouldn't go condemning a country for a few people. Brazil and China have both helped us many many times and as such they're bros regardless of what they do.

At the end of the day, I pretty much just hope that allies can see past 'ZOMG AUSTRALIA IS LEAVAN EDEN THEY IS TRAITOR' and recognize that we've been let down plenty more than just recently, nobody is without sin (including ourselves), not everyone supports the deal, and most of all, there are still many of us who recognize what some of our allies do do, and respect those fighters who do recognize Australia.

In other news, I have no fucking idea what any of this article is about and it's not going to make any sense. I doubt it conveys anything I want it to, and it will most probably be garbage. If I was drunk this thing would probably be about as incomprehensible as a jaybay article.



I generally just wanted to say that both Aus and EDEN are at fault, our government is shit, Wallachian makes HQ look like childish babies, and I still love our allies.
