The previous Congress elections saw the CSD maintain their edge in the eCanadian political landscape. However, the surge of the newly coined CEP would foreshadow a very tight Presidential race two weeks later. The other telling story was the emergence of the PPC as the third way which coincided with the decline in the influence of the CCF (previously CPP). All these movements and currents also appears to have influenced veteran eCanadian public figures who moved in significant number to revitalize and rebrand many of the nations minor parties. Although they will not see any of their members elected to Congress this time around, their influence has been undeniable in the political discourse of the country.

At the close of the last elections, the breakdown was as follows:
CSD 16 seats.
CEP 12 seats.
PPC 7 seats.
CCF 4 seats.
Bloc 1 seat.

In the interim the CCF went from decline to collapse and the new leader, Hnat Khotkevych, does not appear to have had enough time to properly position himself for this round.

At dissolution Congress looked like this:
CSD 12 seats.
CEP 9 seats.
PPC 7 seats.
Bloc 1 seat.

The remaining seats have either become vacant or those elected to them moved to minor parties and so will not get re-elected.

With about a third of the election day past the seat distribution based on the calls made by the Freeholder Press is as follows:
CSD 7 seats.
PPC 6 seats.
CEP 6 seats.
Bloc 2 seats.

The CSD is the political goliath of eCanada. Their support base is the broadest and their ability to get out the vote appears to be superior as well. So far we have seen them firm up their support in both safe and contested seats.

The PPC and the CEP are in a back and forth battle which is very interesting in view of their contrasting styles and ideologies.

The Bloc were talking pre-election of broadening their appeal and if they can hang on to the 3 seats they currently control, it will be mission accomplished.

The CCF is struggling and their position of offical party status should certainly be questioned by eCanadians at large.

12:30 UPDATE!

CSD, leading or elected in 17, no change.
PPC, leading or elected in 11, +1.
CEP, leading or elected in 9, +1.

kroggel ELECTED in QC for the CSD.

Bringing our totals to:
CSD 11 seats.
CEP 8 seats.
PPC 7 seats.
Bloc 2 seats.

The Freeholder Press has now called 28 of 40 seats but with 343 votes so far and still counting, there is the risk that some of those projection will prove to have been premature.

The Atlantic Provinces are proving harder to call because of their smaller sample and the potential for sudden voting surges. Both NB and NFLD appear to be two horse races between the CSD and PPC but the CEP candidate remains a dark horse. Also candidates like Cesar Augustus in PEI suddenly find themselves threatened of even dropping from the wild card race.

19:20 UPDATE!

CSD, leading or elected in 16, -1.
PPC, leading or elected in 13, +2.
CEP, leading or elected in 7, -2.
Bloc, leading or elected in 3, +1.
CCF, leading or elected in 1*, no change.

*Cesar Augustus is an RFP member running under the CCF banner.

The challenges of making projections has been illustrated in PEI. 9 hrs ago the Freeholder Press projected Chosen of God elected for the CEP. It now appears the outcome is once more up in the air with the CEP candidate not even holding a wildcard as of this update.

The number of votes in this election is making all but the safest seats (Miloslav in Quebec, the frontrunners in Ontario) difficult to call.

However, once more into the breach... the Freeholder Press projects:

Duke Leto ELECTED in AB for the CSD.

The boomers have come home to roost. The majority appear to have moved to support the CSD but by about the same proportion (41😵 as they previously held in Congress. The untold story is how the votes of the minor parties broke down. Short of them sharing that information with us however, it will remain a mystery.

This has been a very eventful election and there are still hours to go. Many could reasonably expect the voting to start to slow down but it hasn't happened yet. Also to add spice to the situation is the fact that a very large segment of the public show up at night if article voting patterns are any indication.

This one will go down to the wire in quite a few ridings!
