For Éire

Day 731, 19:49 Published in Ireland Pakistan by Longbaugh

Thanks be to Octavius Dryst for granting me my citizenship. After four months of traveling the world I'm Irish again and I am announcing my candidacy for a Dublin seat in the Dáil Éireann. I am running as a member of the Irish Union Party.

There’s not much for me to say regarding this endeavor. Most who run for congress in any nation usually write up an article announcing their candidacy and then proceed to outline their agenda if they win. As Dishmcds dutifully points out in his newspaper, the Dead Man’s Journal, most candidates post promises that are never fulfilled and are certainly never even monitored by their various constituencies. I’m not going to bring a Q5 hospital to Dublin; neither will I produce a Q5 defense system. What I can promise you is the very same thing I’ve promised to any voter I’ve ever tried to court, any business partner I’ve ever worked with, or any simple friend I’ve ever had in eRepublik.

You might very well hear about my history with our brothers across the Atlantic. You might hear high-minded tales of treachery and treason. I invite everyone who reads this to peruse The Long Bow to discover who I really am and what makes me tick.

Articles I’d recommen😛
A Cordial Discussion Amidst Rampant Irrational Anger: Myself and Jonathan Tyler (an American n00b at the time) discussing the issue which would ultimately lead to my departure from the United States.
I’ve Had Just About Enough of This Nonsense: My response to still-unproven rumors floating around my former country regarding me.
Vindication is in the Cards: My epic back-and-forth with now-Vice Chairman of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff, NXNW.
An Evening with Longbaugh: Ndvanderhoofven’s interview with me.

You can go here for a complete archive of my articles in The Long Bow. You can also visit my wiki page here to read a detailed recounting of my history in eRepublik. I can assure you that my history is very much fully accounted for—certainly more than every one of my detractors. The very fact that I even have a wiki page—much-less a large and detailed one—should give you an idea of how dedicated I am to eRepublik. In a world where congressman take their duties so lightly and sometimes abandon their post to leave the country, I can assure you I won’t. I don’t necessarily believe that a congressman should stay in their region for the duration of their time. It’d be foolish for myself to do so seeing as how my strength level is above 13 and I’ve thus-far accumulated more than 50,000 damage points. However, I’ve always believed that if you’re elected to help lead the country and vote on important decisions, it is your solemn obligation to at least stay in Ireland and not vacate your seat for medals. Desertion of responsibility is beyond forgiveness as far as I’m concerned.

With that said, here is my pledge:
Ireland is in a fairly unique transitional state and the prospect of a true and strong national identity is at stake. I want more for Ireland than boring two-clicking and societal domination by a certain few who would rather keep Ireland as a small schoolyard where certain folk are allowed at certain tables and certain other folk are not, rather than a nation the New World can finally take notice of. I think a defensive alliance with the United Kingdom is an idea worth discussing

Others will promise you what they simply cannot deliver (most of them know they can’t deliver it when they promise it). What I can promise you is to be honest and absolutely transparent as my #1 priority. What has kept Ireland behind in the past is the barrier of information that lies firm between my fellow Irish men and women and the leaders we elect. With PEACE disintegrated, Ireland is on a new frontier; with an unprecedented opportunity to vault forward.

I pledge to keep Éire on track.
