eRepublik is like sex.

‘What,’ you may ask, ‘makes you say that?’

Well bare with me, because I’m about to make a very large and hopefully amusing analogy that explains it.

Picture yourself at home on a Friday night. This is what we call ‘in game’. You sit about, doing not much. Maybe you try to work or train, but all your left with is reading articles in your computer. In other words, it’s boring.

Next thing you know, you get a text based message from some guy called Alice, beckoning you to something called a forum. This forum is very much like a party.

You walk in, not really knowing that many people, perhaps a little intimidated at first. Make an introduction, and latch onto a familiar face or group, you ask if you can sit with them. ‘Yes’ they say, and give you access to their subforum. And a drink or two or three or four.

Before long, you are the life of the party, your 136 posts have familiarised everyone at the party with your name and you really begin to feel involved in whats going on, who is who and where to get free food. You also, after taking those four drinks (seeing as when you’re new, everyone is a lightweight) you feel itching for a fight. This is something you’ve done alone before at home, but it’s never as much fun when you have a group of pals to do it with. So you get involved with the army, and suddenly find yourself supplied for a good scrap, and with directions of exactly where to vent your anger.

Sounds good right? (I know the analogy got shakey there, but the best bit is yet to come).

So you’ve made friends. But you’re a growing citizen, level 18 by now and you have certain urges that must be met. You know of a few people at the party, so you get talking in a little more depth to one of them. They decide you’re a nice guy, so take your hand and leads you past a sign that says ‘IRC’ and on upstairs.

Your partner, whether it be girl, boy, or Meghan, is kind enough to introduce you to those in the public areas, such as #eUK and promptly bustles you into a private empty room. (#eWoldy is a good choice) It’s your first time, you may be a tad nervous.

Never the less, they talk you through it, and make you feel at ease. Needless to say, protection is of huge importance. Always use protection. It’s simple, just type /msg nickserv register [email] [password].

And away you go. You can see, that using IRC is very much like sex. You get protected, you go somewhere private, stay up late getting busy with your friends, and end up leaving promptly in floods of tears.

And there you have it. The real questions is, what are you waiting for? Get on the forums, get on IRC. Get involved with the community and have some fun.

For legal reasons I do need to point out that eRepublik will in no-way possible get you laid. Even telling people you’re the King of England doesn’t work.
