But First, This Breaking News Story:
eRepugnant Challenges the Media
This latest stroke of game management genius, the disabling of images in newspaper articles, presents a challenge to all publishers.
Most newspaper writers use an image or two to enhance their work, or break up "wall of text" pieces for ease of digestion, or have their paper's format built on custom made separators. Others employ the "one-pic-one-line" method to get off a quick joke or propaganda jab, still others utilize "chick pics" to boost readership among prepubescent teens who haven't figured out how to surf porn. Some publishers use series' of photos-- some go to great lengths to create original cartoons, others thoughtfully surf for images related to their message-- as their main content, punctuating with key text lines in between photos.
Some photos are hotlinked from their source, but use of Photobucket and other similar online image storage sites is rising as publishers enjoy the higher level of stability and control of the images they use.
Whether these techniques are used to entertain or inflame readers or merely to enhance the appearance of a writer's work, the use of photos in articles is a fundamental element of all journalism in every medium. It's something we paid for when we bought our eRepublik newspapers.
eRepublik Admin are, of course, game development, public relations and marketing geniuses, and I would never purposely violate Rule 7 which forbids criticism of their decisions or actions. This action is not just one more brick out of the wall, another segment of the customer base disrespected and alienated toward the door.

Also, we're familiar with the cool images readers use in Comments threads which are made up of keyboard images.. the Publius Fist, the Homer Head, the Homer Facepalm, the various tanks and of course we saw plenty of the two Croatian Presidential candidates' names.
If there's a program or website where an photo can be converted or rendered to one of these typewriter images.. Boy Howdy, please do pass that along, it'll be interesting to see a new wave of creativity through text-based imagery.

I'll continue to shop for images and use the basic BBS "img" code to insert them into my work even though they won't appear, and add a size=10 text line below them to describe the image and link to it for those interested. It's just my quiet way of protesting while coping with this new challenge the game has presented to us.

This Just In: This article has examples of ASCii Art and a link to a page where more might be found.

gagah Day 990, 15:42 I hope the voters remember it when you try to run for president not long from now. Don't deny it. You're setting yourself up as the "people's champ"
