Congress Says No to MPP with India - Day 4

Day 1,044, 20:29 Published in USA USA by Astra Kat G

No love between these two flags?

Honestly, I wasn't going to write an article today.

I really wasn't.

After spending more than half the day without a proper Internet connection, and having done nothing in Congress as a result, I figured I'd just fold Day 4 into an article tomorrow (providing my Internet stayed fixed tomorrow...) on Day 5.

And then I checked my Inbox.

There was the usual Congress business mail from rainy sunday, but there were also two mails, one from Alexander Hamilton (who signed as MoFA, Minister of Foreign Affairs; in this eCountry more widely known as Secretary of State) and another from ligtreb, both urging me to hold my vote on the MPP with eIndia and linking me to a topic posted by our President regarding the MPP currently up for a vote.

Now, eIndia's been an ally to us, but they haven't been especially friendly since they asked us to leave Karnataka. For a few months there, relations remained more or less where they had been before, which was not especially loving, but more or less friendly.

After that, you could start to see the occasional hate article come out of eIndia, articles favoring better relations with eSerbia, etc., which were always met with a great amount of venom here in eUSA, particularly on our national forums. Long gone were the days you'd see plenty of mentions of wishing the best to eIndia in their new found freedom, sometimes calling them our Indian Bros. It appeared that the honeymoon was over, the marriage broken up, and the upcoming divorce would be a messy one.

By now, I don't think you'll find any eLove for eIndia on our forums, nor even a mere mention of friendliness with eIndia. As for the Indian side, there's this article published by the Indian MoFA with the post-script of "eSerbia has shown best intention towards eIndia and offers peace with us to improve our relations."

My first reaction? That b!tch! Going around, talkin' all "nicey-nice" to our eIndia? I bet eSerbia was even the reason eIndia asked us to move out in the first place! How dare she! I sense a catfight coming on! I'll claw her pretty -- ... Err, ahem, anyhow... I have to wonder how eIndians could really think eSerbia has shown "best intention" after their President's account was purportedly compromised earlier this month to retreat some regions to Serbia. Perhaps they've been assured by Serbia that they weren't behind it; I'm not sure.

Of particular interest to me was this comment posted by prominent eIndian David Forde:
GO INDIA, DONT LET THE USA BULLY US ANY LONGER, STAND TALL AND PROUD, THEY HAVE DISPRESPETED US LONG ENOUGH IN THEIR MEDIA AND FORUMS READ THE COMMENTS THAT WILL APPEAR HERE TO SEE THE TRUE AMERICAN VIEW ON INDIA, THEY DONT LIKE US LETS US RESPECT THAT AND CUT ALL RELATIONS.

USA HAVE NO REAL FRIENDS AND THEY HAVE DONE TO US WHAT THEY DO TO OTHERS, IE TRY USE US FOR THEIR OWN GAINS WITH LITTLE OR NO REGARDS FOR INDIAN INTRESTS

Do eIndians really believe this? It sure seems like it, given the general cold shoulder we were getting from them even in the ending months of our stay in Karnataka. It kind of makes me sad, that they'd think that of us, but oh well, what more can we do? We freed their regions, helped them fight against PTO, and stuck around in Karnataka afterward while sending them hundreds of gold in rental fees to help them keep their freedom. Heck, I even conversed with them when I was in Immigration to give them better ways to detect new citizens in eIndian territories held by eUSA (for ATO reasons), so that they could bring eIndians home.

In spite of all that, the reason for rejecting this particular MPP is more strategic rather than political, though I'm surprised we've kept an even somewhat friendly political relationship with eIndia this long after Karnataka. Tactically speaking, now that eIndia doesn't share a border with eSerbia, there isn't a reason to invest in the cost of an MPP -- and if India is that convinced Serbia's going to be best buds with them and won't invade, then all the better for them. Oh, and if you're curious, the Indian MPP wasn't on the posted list for September MPPs I've mentioned in a previous article.

The benefits of an MPP with eIndia were two-fold, while eIndia had a border with eSerbia: They could be protected from a potential Phoenix invasion and we could use it as a springboard to kick eSerbia out of Asia.

You may ask why our President proposed an MPP with eIndia if he had no intention of keeping it. The answer is that there was a complicated (rea😛 glitched) situation with a recent Resistance War of South Thailand today that meant the situation with eSerbia was uncertain. The President proposed the MPP with eIndia just in case it ended up that we'd strategically need it (the deadline for renewal was today, so he needed to propose it today), but asked Congress to hold their votes until the situation was resolved. Admin swooped in and passed judgment, declaring the RW successful, thereby removing the shared border between eSerbia and eIndia. At that point, we were asked to vote No.

The current session of Congress didn't discuss the proposed MPP, but then most discussion about MPPs is usually left up to the military and the executive branch (especially the President and the State Department). Congress mostly just votes Yes or No on it based on a prior consensus -- or, honestly, whatever the President wants. Sure, there might be one or two dissenting votes, but we usually follow the executive on this.

Side Note: I have every reason to believe at this point that we will be continuing friendly diplomatic relations with eChina. I'd vote for it, in any case.

Another great article for an eUS perspective: Senator ligtreb's thoughts.

In other news, Claire Littleton was elected as Speaker of the House when the voting period finally ended tonight. She'll be following up soon with her choice of support staff and kicking Congress into high gear. I can only hope I'll have a suitable Internet connection for it!

The final vote tally:

Claire Littleton: 23
Laxsnor: 14
Cromstar: 6
Abstain: 1 (it was the former Speaker of the House, Senator ligtreb, if you're curious)
Total Votes: 44
Percentage of Congress that Vote😛 95.65% (44 out of 46)

1. Alliance
A. It's eIndia, and it's no longer tactically speaking nor fiscally sound for us to continue our alliance with them at this time. Cos the Reason is Treason? Just kidding (although I would suspect eMalaysia might be thinking along those lines...)! That's just random speculation on my part based on the media hostilities I've observed and most definitely just an excuse to post a Kasabian song I've been listening to a lot lately.
B. Voted No.

2. Donation
A. Normal donation of a foreign currency from the Treasury to the Congressional Budget Office.
B. Voted Yes.

3. Buy Constructions: Hospital
A. Looks like President Krems put it on the right tile this time.
B. Voted Yes.

Bye bye to eIndia for now, eAmerica,
