Beginnings

Day 753, 05:10 Published in Japan Japan by Laurana Psion

For a long time now, I have found myself quite stuck for choice as regards to joining a political party. I’m the sort of person that likes to really make something out of being a "party member", and thus, to me, joining a party isn’t something you do on a whim. Having breakfast at the Tequila Fitness Club in the morning, suddenly eating wagashi and sipping matcha for tea at KITA’s house as part of an Imperial Sun Party function, and then getting smashed on Geno’s secret stash of shōchū from the Orange Party… such idle and whimsical party hopping just doesn’t do it for me.

As such, I have only ever joined two parties in all the time I’ve been in eJapan, and each time, it took some deliberation before I finally decided to take a cautious step towards the inner sanctum of those respective parties. I think that joining a party should be a long term and steadfast commitment; a chance to be in the company of like-minded colleagues, and accomplish something as friends.

In a group, this is might be great fun, BUT alone, and you might feel like the biggest idiot

But then, what happens during the time that you deliberate? Being party-less, and as especially for a new player, you can feel lost and without anywhere to turn to; no circle of comrades to help you. What about the player who is now a long term resident and still is not a member of any party? I know that many of our parties are quite open and enjoy the occasional bantering with non-members (even within their own party forum), but still, sometimes it can be hard to take that first leap into our society, whether in our media, forum, or irc channel. Sometimes, it could just be that they just don’t find any current party to their taste, like me.

Whatever the reason, the fact is that they are not part of a party, and apart from the vocal minority, party-less citizens are often disenfranchised and unrepresented.

United we stand

As a result, I will be contesting for the party presidency of the current Nihonjin Sakura-to or NST (which may be later renamed to better reflect the intended non-partisan nature), with the blessing of current president Kenji Nakamure. The intention behind this, is to provide a vibrant community targeted at all people who have not joined any political party for whatever reason.

As such, the NST will not be a true “political party” in the conventional sense, and is really more a society for independent individuals, who want to be more active or get involved in eJapan without committing themselves to a "proper" or "serious" party which they know nothing about. Apart from their lack of allegiance to any "standard" political party, the only thing that will bind NST members together would be their love and loyalty towards the nation that is eJapan. NST members are free to stay as short or as long as they wish.

Whether you are an inherent skeptic and outsider, or simply undecided on which party you wish to join, we shall do our utmost to make you feel welcome, help you find your feet in eJapan and eRepublik, and in general, provide you with as much support as we can, whether in helping you decide which party to join or by getting your voice heard should you choose to remain independent indefinitely.

Shouting alone might relieve your stress, but it won't accomplish anything

Naturally, since the NST is intended more as a "safety net" and a way to reach out to all those not currently affiliated with a party, I would not be surprised to find that our membership levels fluctuate greatly, as people come and go; often only staying here while they decide on their future paths.

A long queue isn't always a sign of good things

I would hope that in good times, the NST will have a relatively low membership as people are happy with and can identify which parties they would be proud to be a part of. Indeed, I would hope that most of the time, there will be little need for the services of the NST (apart from helping the ever present newcomers get settled).

In bad times however, should people find themselves disenfranchised or disgruntled with the currently existing parties, they will always be welcome to take refuge in the NST.

Fun for the whole family, each and everyone!

I hope that providing such a service will help everyone, both young and old. New players will find it easier to integrate into our unique society and get involved, while veteran players on the verge of burning out can come here to cool down, allowing them to participate less seriously or frequently, while still being able to easily keep in touch with eJapan and the game.

All the above information is merely intended to give you an idea of the goals and principles behind this proposed "party" of mine. Rest assured that if successfully elected, I will be providing further details in future, once I have put the finishing touches on the "party" manifesto, which will include guidelines on how the "party" will be run.

The reason why I will not be releasing any such manifesto before the election is twofold. Firstly, seeing how the NST is intended to cater to the needs of those who are currently without a party, I would like to have some of your feedback, before a final draft is published. And secondly... I'm just a slow writer and I doubt I'd be able to finish it before the elections *ahahahaha*.

Writing... often a slow and winding path

But seriously, this is a "party" for you who currently has none, and although it is intended to provide you with an opportunity to get involved and experience eRepublik to a greater extent, it does need you to actually step forward and get your hands dirty!

Have fun! Get involved with eJapan's colourful society!

If you are interested in these proposals, do feel free to join the party!
If you have any comments or questions, do let me hear them!

It's never too late to start a new beginning!
