An Epic Odyssey

Day 810, 10:03 Published in USA USA by Dodgercatcher

Hello and welcome. Please get comfortable as I am about to weave you a tale so incredible and lulzy it may not seem real, but it is as real as you and I my friend. I also must apologize because it is tl;dr.

It all started exactly one year ago... I was surfing the internet playing another game (which I still play) when I came upon an ad on it for eRepublik. It sounded interesting enough so I followed the link to the sign-up page and managed to fall out of the sky into eCalifornia. This is where my story really begins.

The month was February, the day was the 7th, and I had no idea what had happened. This time was cruel not only on new players, but all players alike. Uncle Sam had just two days before been elected to his first term as POTUS. Food cost somewhere between 1.70 USD and 1.90 USD. The war module had been taken down for changes for weeks, and there was still many more to come. Working and training required you to complete some trivia. I found a letter from the admins in my pocket and read it, it basically told me to get an avatar, get some work, get some food, and maybe even train. I did what I was told after acquiring a job at a housing company for 2 USD. I was one of the few new players who was able to afford food everyday and thankful for it.

I set some goals for myself that first day. I read much of the media that day and took in a lot of information and new immediately what I wanted to do. I wanted to do the following:
1. Reach level 6
2. Get a Q1 House
3. Get a newspaper
4. Run for Congress
5. Be a successful Congressman
6. Eventually become a Marine
7. Become famous

I stuck around because of those goals as nobody went out of their way to me for my first couple weeks. I contacted everyone also working at the company I did, I contacted my boss, and I contacted the people I thought would care about me and my interests. Then on my second day (the ninth) I found the holy alter, the eUS Forums. Little did I know that they were just created a week or two before I joined as Franco owned the last ones and that is an entirely different story. This compelled me to stick around even more, as I gained friends and a reputation.

Then things started to change. At this time the eUS had infrastructure in almost every state, and they varied. California had a Q4 and once the war module came back online I fought with that Q4 hospital every chance I got. I figured that one extra fight wasn't worth the plane ticket out of my beloved California, if only I knew back then what I knew now. the Uncle Sam administration (or maybe it was the military) came up with an idea, Taco Bell. Operation Taco Bell seemed easy enough, take over Mexico. Back then they had MPPs out the wahzoo and PEACE would protect them, we went ahead anyway. After managing to infiltrate half the country the tides turned and we were turned back by Portugal and PEACE. This eventually left us with Baja California and Dish as President of Mexico. We ran Resistance War training wars maybe two times a week.

The admins removed trivia a week after I joined. I reached level six a little slower than most people today since there was no war module to use to fight once I hit level five; it wasn't until I was level 7 or so that it came back. With this I bought a Q1 house off the "black market" for 2 Gold, and then bought a newspaper with 2 Gold. I then became one of the first investors in Big Johnson's companies with my leftover 1 Gold. The day that I was able to join a party I did it. I had spent enough time reading propaganda to not choose the USWP "Zombies" (largest party in the world at that point) even though they had great new player help. I then skipped over the Libertarians who were second and went to the CvP for reasons I'm not too sure of myself. This started my political career, somewhat.

The resistance you could call it was a group of CvP players who wanted new leadership over Desertfalcon. We hung out in our own channel in IRC and this is what started my IRC usage for eRep. Here I met many new friends that I loved hanging out with. Among them were Cromstar, Mattoze5, Bienville, Bastion, huskerguy77, dbuck2001, Evry, Rhane (not so much part of it, just hung out), and eventually Angelini, Hekter, Jaxon Leith, and a couple others. I had nothing against DF at this point and just preferred the active company that ushered me into the game itself and gave me great advice from elder players.

From then on out time mashed together. I know that I ran in Montana I believe March 25th, but I could be mistaken for February 25th. In this race I ran against Headmistress Talia, Claire Littleton (who was also a newb), and two two-clickers. Claire Littleton won that election and I cried foul because she obviously moved votes. This caused me to rethink me goals and maybe just become a military man for good but I digressed when confronted by the resistance. The next month I was approached by Bienville who was retiring from Congress and wanted me to take his seat in Louisiana. With his help I won that election easily and served my first term in Congress, a very humbling experience.

I learned a lot that month and it would set the tone that I would take on everything I did and still do. Mattoze5 ran for PP against DF and lost, but just barely. At this time DF announced that he would be handing the reigns over to Matt the next month and would teach him. The next month came and DF put it off another month. We were outraged by this although looking back at it the decision was for the best. The next month came along and finally we were in charge. I was voted in as Inter-party Ambassador, a job that I loved to hold. Through this I made friends with many of the other parties and the people in them, influencing my multi-partisanship views I have now.

My next Congress Election turned out badly. Without Bienville's help I lost in Louisiana to a newb, James S. Pfeiffer. Again I cried foul because I lost, and was upset for a long time. I felt as if I let down Bienville and my party. I swore revenge against him and had lost my political mind, luckily Matt and Crom calmed me down and stopped me from running against him once again. I spent most of this month focusing on the forums and my party position.

I failed to mention my court experiences during this time. During this time I frequented the eUS Forums, mainly General Discussion, General Political Discussion, The Capitol, the Federal Courts of the eUSA, and Off-Topic. If you lurk around the Courts enough you'll end up being out to work, and so I was put to work. First I stated as a Public Defender and my first case was to defend Kyle321n against lulz charges from Joeyhens1. I managed to get him off the hook and won my first case. It was after this that Cstarlight, the Clerk of Courts at that time had to resign and so my good friend and moderator Alee Ann offered me the postion. I whole heartily accepted and continue to serve in that capacity to this day, along with the occasional case that i take while Acestriker1 is on vacation.

Anyway the next Congress Election happened in Nevada. I was up against Woxan of the AAP and had endorsements of four of the top five parties, I lost. At this point my political career was on the rocks and I was lost. I picked up the title of Press Secretary of the CvP and tried to help the party even more. In the CvP we now had (sighs) Ajay Bruno. The biggest headache I ever had in this game he caused our party to spiral out of control. Anyway eventually it led to this. After that point we tried hard to rebound but couldn't quite do it. This entire time I had been fostering friendships with everyone in the USWP who weren't so bad after all. These people were mainly Ligtreb, Cerb, Jasper Ferguson, Harrison Richardson, Zcia, Ian John Locke IV, Josh Frost and Pig In Zen.

I'm Gonna Sum Up The Next Few Elections For You. After Nevada I went back to Montana and won, then Maine during the invasion and lost. During this time I made many lulz POTUS runs in primaries and got to become the first Vice-Vice President of the eUSA under Harrison Richardson, Emerick, and Gaius for a combined 5 Terms as VVP. I also was Vice-President of the CvP for a month leading up to the September PP Elections. I held the position of eUSA Ambassador to Brazil for two months (March to May).

My Military Career. Believe it or not I actually accomplished something in the military! I was first the CO of Home Guard Bravo Company Platoon Two. I was then promoted by John Woodman (Commander of the Home Guard for a long time) to QMG (the guy who hands out the weapons). This is a prestigious position and requires tons of work. Then the PEACE invasion started and about a month in we ran out of funding and I had to resign due to RL concerns. I then was deployed during one of my non-Congress months to Greece and remained there for the time until the next election. At this time I held the position of CO of Home Guard Charlie Company Platoon Two until I transfered to the Mobile Infantry for another non-Congress month. After I came back to run for Congress and won I have since then been in the Home Guard as a grunt.

The Invasion was chaos. I used my first Q5's to defend California from the Indonesians and despite mine and many other's efforts we lost it. At this time I was DSoH in Congress(along with Bill Brasky) under James S. Pfeiffer who I had become friends with despite our past. We were pushed back to Florida from where we pushed out once again to reclaim our lands. I have skipped over much of the invasion time because I assume most of my readers know about this and will continue to do so with the rest of my article. We held nightly Skype calls between some of the top men in the country including President Emerick. here we played games, namely Kitty Puzzles.

Changing over from the CvP was one of the toughest decisions in my eLife. After Raegan won the PP elections in September I decided it was time for a change and joined my friends in the USWP. Here Cerb had me sign over my soul to the Devil in return for an oatmeal cookie everyday (the deal is still being fulfilled too). I was accepted by them and looked to contribute immediately. I was selected to be a PAC Regional Director under Ligtreb and Devan Kronos. I sent many mass PMs and helped them out in whatever way I could.

On the 1st day Josh Frost selected his cabinet... I was approached by Cerb in a PM on IRC and asked if I wanted to be Director of Ambassadorial Affairs in Josh's Cabinent. I was excited to say the least despite the fact that I had not been involved in Foreign Affairs since I was ambassador to Brazil. I worked hard under the management of Secretary of State Cerb and Deputy Secretary of State Bradley Reala and with the help from my Deputy Director of Ambassadorial Affairs system0101. We revamped the entire Ambassadorial Affairs section and achieved our goals. The next month Jewitt won POTUS and Cerb promoted me to Deputy Secretary of State - Europe, making Bradley DSoS - Americas. Cerb soon resigned and went to retire in Australia making Bradley SoS and system DSoS - Americas.

The Executive Board is a highly powerful group. They run the USWP and can make huge decisions that can impact not only the party but also the eUSA. I was made the Director of Communications in the USWP and have to thank Ligtreb and Cerb for that, they pulled for me as they have done all through the last year. I kind of failed at this position, sure I could write articles but I wasn't good at any other parts of the job. Devan Kronos resigned as PAC Director and along with my friend DisDick we were made Co-PAC Directors in December.

These paragraphs are getting shorter and less informative. As we have nearly reached the present I'm going to give you the results of the rest of my Congressional Elections. I then ran in Louisiana after we regained the eUSA and won. Then I ran in Kentucky and won against a PTO effort. My next campaign was DC for DC and I won that election. That brought my total terms as five wins out of 11 tries. This last election was the twelfth time I had run, and would have been my sixth term in Congress bringing me up to a .500 winning percentage. Unfortunately I fell pray to a PTO, this seems to be a sign that I am not meant to be in Congress.

Interstate Highway Systems are tricky. After the help of all the parties to defeat my first PTO in Kentucky I founded the Interstate Highway System. It was founded as an Anti-PTO force to serve in situations just like those I have experienced. I tried to get a force together but unfortunately trying to find party less voters in the wasteland is hard to do. I managed to scrounge together about 10 people for the force but with nobody to use it against in December. I let it go after getting more involved in RL.

The Lana = Drugs. Lately I have been working on writing more articles and giving my opinion on hot topics with lolcats mixed in. This along with my large amount of friends has slowly been getting my subscriber base above 100. This is a small paper and I know that, considering that more than half of them are likely dead or don't care. I encourage you to read newspaper articles as they are great sources of information.

What I plan on doing now. With no Congress to call home, or to hold me back for that matter I'm not sure where to go from now. One thing I am sure of is that I am done with Congress for a while, whether that is only for a month or another year I'm done with it for a bit. 12 straight elections can get tiring and I'm not ready for another one anytime soon. I have applied to become a Marine and use my fighting experience and strength to the advantage of our country. I hopefully will continue to work in the USWP and as Deputy Secretary of State - Europe to improve my country.
