ADP - Your guide to Senate

Day 2,425, 03:20 Published in Australia Australia by Send love to Plato

So, you want to be an elected representative in the eAustralian Senate? So how do you go about it and what does the role involve?

Well firstly you will need to be active and responsible and be either or above level 12 due to game mechanics this is a MUST, you must also be able to debate and discuss with your peers and be a member of a political party in the top five. If you are not in a top five political party but want to run for senate then contact your party President about approaching the Australian Democratic Party with regards to helping you. Obviously if eAustralia is wiped and without a region on the eRepublik map then we will not be allowed a senate as no fully occupied nation is allowed that privilege.

Now, on the 15th of each month you elect a Party President, the following day the results are announced and between the 16th and 23rd of each month the senate candidates list becomes open for you to register with. How do you find this? Well on your party's home page you will find half way down a section called 'Congress'. In that section will be an option to run for congress as a candidate. Now it would be a help to your cause to produce an article outlining what you have achieved, hope to achieve or just introducing yourself to the people that will decide your fate - the electorate. When you sign up it allows you the option to add a 'Presentation' so people can see and click your article when looking through your party's candidates for senate/congress.

Now once you have signed up for Senate please check the candidates list a few times before the list is locked on the 23rd as there has been cases of people being removed from the list by a glitch recently, so you might have to sign up again sadly. This is a game glitch as Party Presidents do not have any power to remove candidates from the party's senate list. Now on the 24th your Party President will determine which candidate will go in which position on the list, if he/she fails to do this then game mechanics will keep the candidates list as a 'first come first served' order of merit and whoever put their name down first will be that party's number one candidate and have a better chance of being elected. Once arranged he/she will then lock the list ready for the senate elections on the 25th. For every 10% of the vote your party gets your party will return one candidate, so for example the Australian Democratic Party came top of the previous senate elections with over 40% of the national vote, and for that we won four senate seats.

If you find yourself in the lucky few that do become elected then you will receive 5 gold, a badge on your profile and have access to this administration menu -

You will then shortly receive a Private Message with other senators included so you can discuss and debate proposals, please do not propose any laws without consulting your fellow senators as a hasty action can lead to problems with months of diplomacy we have built up. Proposals are discussed then voted upon which game mechanics permits a 24 hour vote, if any laws are proposed while you are away then you will be sent a notification so please read your Senate PM's before voting. There is of course a forum section for senators but this is purely down to your personal preference if you chose to use this. Cabinet members do not get the privilege of being paid unlike Senators so earn your money by looking into each vote and proposal before acting.

The first option is to Donate, this is for the Senate and Government to transfer money from the treasury to Organisations owned by eAustralia. The Reserve Bank of Australia for example where we keep our financial reserves.

Issue Money is the option senate has to remove gold locked into the treasury and sell it into Australian Dollars, this in turn can then be moved to Government orgs or the RBA (Reserve Bank) for use elsewhere. Gold in the treasury has not much uses so very few Governments leave large amounts of gold in the treasury, in fact it's only real use is to 'Declare War' (an option open to the President to open another war alongside a natural Enemy). If you are without senate then the gold becomes unmovable and locked into the treasury.

VAT & Import Taxes, VAT is the tax on supplies (food and weapons) sold on the marketplace by citizens and the tax goes straight to the treasury. Import Taxes are directed at foreign sellers on the Australian marketplace, the higher the import tax the more it makes the export activity almost always less profitable for the foreign trader and encourages them to placing their offers on the local market or on other foreign markets. Import taxes and VAT are currently set at 1% in Australia.

Work Tax is a tax on Australian employees salary and the work by citizens as managers of their own companies, so if you have a food or weapons factory then by producing those products you are acting as a manager of those companies so it does effect you in more ways than one. The current rates are at 1.00%.

Minimum Wage is the daily rate of pay that employers can pay their employees in Australia. The lowest minimum wage the game will allow is $0.10 citizen currency and currently in Australia it is $5AUD.

President Impeachment is the proposal Senators can use to remove the President from office and it requires 66% of senate to approve this law. If Senate does indeed remove the Australian President from office the the second highest place candidate in the Presidential election will assume the office for the remainder of the month. This is one proposal that requires a lot of deliberation as it has a lot of wide ranging consequences.

When a country is denied a senate then no foreign players can gain Australian citizenship, however when we are back on the map for a senate election all Senators have the right to Provide Citizenship. Each Senator will have a set amount of passes and we urge you to talk to the current Government and senate about which applicant is suitable or unsuitable before you even consider accepting anyone. Some countries have managed to sneak enough foreign nationals into a country to actually take control of that country so i repeat please consult senate and the Government who check all applicants before accepting.

Natural Enemy (NE) is a law designed for nations to begin a war campaign against an hostile nation that borders their territories. This is another law that needs 66% of the vote to pass, if you propose a NE and it is voted down then you have to wait until the 24 hour vote is over before you can propose another. When you propose a NE on another country your nation gets a 10% bonus in battles against the enemy nation.

Another law you will be asked to vote on is Mutual Protection Pacts, and these are treaties signed between nations to allow their fighters to fight for each other without transport costs. So for example - Australia has an MPP with Greece which means you can be situated in Australian held territories and fight for Greece without moving to Greece and vice versa. Each MPP costs 10,000AUD and are vital for winning battles where you need allied support.

Now each senator is allowed to propose two laws for their month in senate, of course it isn't the end of the world if you don't use your proposals and you don't receive a magical bonus, so please do not waste them or think you will be at a disadvantage if you don't propose any laws. You have an entire month and any acts of haste could have an effect on our relationships with our friends and allies or have an impact on our global reputation so think carefully and enjoy the experience of serving your eCountry.
