A Short Guide to War: Fighting

Day 676, 17:50 Published in Australia USA by Chris Stanwick

This is the second part of a series of three on understanding battles and fighting. This issue will deal with the aspects of fighting: training, requirements to fight, how to fight, and calculating damage. I hope that you will find it helpful or informative.

Training

A player cannot fight until they reach level 5, which seems like a long time, but passes by very quickly. However, from level two onward, a player can and should train everyday. Training is the only method to increase strength, which factor into the amount of damage you can inflict once you do start fighting.

To train, select “Army” from the “My Places” drop-down menu. The army page will look like this:
Simply click “Train” to increase your strength for the day. Note that you will lose one wellness by training, however, this is a small price to pay for such an important gain.

Wellness and Level

You must fulfill certain conditions to be able to fight in a battle.
1)You must be level 5 or higher, meaning you have at least 25 experience points.
2)Your strength must be greater than 0, meaning you must have trained at least once.
3)Your wellness is greater than or equal to 40.

It will take you at least one full week to reach level 5, during which you should be training everyday. On the seventh day, you should be at level 5 with strength of 2.2. If your wellness is not at least 40, you will need to find a gift partner to gift you to 40 wellness. You cannot use gifts yourself, either another player or an organization must gift them to you. Many nations have gifting programs in effect. Once you reach at least 40 wellness, you are ready to fight.

How to Fight

Now that you have fulfilled the requirements to join the fighting, what do you do next? Locate a battle in which you can fight, of course. Check out the first article in this series, Understanding the Battle, to learn how to locate a battle to participate in. Also check out your nation's forum and media, most governments will issue battle orders for their citizens, especially during times of war. Most of the time, these battle orders will include a link to the battle.

Once you have found a battle, fighting is very easy. On the battlefield page, there will be a big blue “Fight” button in the center of the page, as seen below.

Click the “Fight” button, and you will be navigated to a battle history page that will display the amount of damage you have done and your battle statistics, which are used to calculate the damage done. There will also be another button to continue fighting.

Damage and Battle Statistics

Every time you fight, you deal an amount of damage determined by the damage formula.

Damage = [Weapon Quality Factor] x [Rank Factor] x Strength x [Wellness Factor] x 2

Weapon Quality Factor: If you are fighting without a weapon, then the factor is 0.5. If you are fighting with a weapon, the factor is determined at 1 + (Weapon Quality/5). Therefore, if you are using a Q3 weapon, your quality factor would be 1.6.

Rank Factor: Calculates as 1 + (Rank/5), in which case the ranks are assigned numbers. Privates are 1, Corporals are 2, and so on to Field Marshals at 8. A Captain (5) would have a rank factor of 2.

Wellness Factor: Calculates as 1 + {(Wellness – 25)/100}. As an example, a player at 90 wellness would have a wellness factor of 1.65.

To demonstrate the damage formula, I will use an example player. The player has strength of 4.24, wellness of 95, rank of Lieutenant (4), and is using a Q1 weapon. The formula would be calculated as follows:

Damage = {1 + (1/5)} x {1 + (4/5)} x 4.24 x {1 + [(95-25)/100]} x 2 = 31 damage

In their first fight, this player would have dealt 31 damage. However, because wellness statistics and possible weapon quality decreases after a fight, the next fight will result in less damage dealt. The result of each individual fight is as follows:

1)A loss of 10 wellness points.
2)A gain of 2 experience points.
3)The loss of the weapon used in the fight (weapons can only be used once).

Remember as you fight that you must have at least 40 wellness to fight. If you dip below this, you cannot keep fighting.

I hope that this guide to fighting was of help to those who did not understand the mechanics of the fight module. This was the second part of a three part series on understanding battles and fighting. The third part will be published tomorrow on how to use a hospital to heal.
