A Serious Thought: How to Help Media
Chutley
Turkish below.
Disclaimer: Uh oh. I’m going to be serious. Perhaps I can chalk this up to the fact that Evil Chutley has recently been beating the crap out of Nice Chutley and the latter finally wants to speak out.
Can We Revive the Media?
eRepublikans – we have a problem. Fewer and fewer writers are publishing quality articles on a regular basis. Part of this is Plato’s fault – the new module makes it harder to stumble across newspapers to which we are not already subscribed, however, much of this is our fault. We don’t support our favorite writers enough. Good papers are hurting for votes and, especially, subscriptions.
Take a look at the following newspapers:
HavocPwn has created a complex RPG game (only 93 subscribers)
Darkskye offers quality games and riddles accompanied by excellent graphics (90 subscribers)
Rusty_Shackleford owns one of the best papers in the game with his eRep Maps series (295 subscribers)
Sinensis gives us the eUSA Stock Exchange (104 subscribers)
Civil Anarchy is one of the best writers in the game and has merely 366 subscribers, 634 away from an MM
Lastly, if I may self-indulge for a moment: My last five articles have garnered a lot of interest - 74, 104, 30, 66, and 81 votes. Aside from that crappy song I wrote, it’s been months since I wrote an article that received fewer than 57 votes. Yet, I have 269 subscribers, well under many of the “giveaway” papers.
And I’m sure there are many, many more, like Llort Zakharov.
Yet, the subscriptions of each of the papers listed above pale in comparison to many papers that have been created within the same timeframe. Why? Because they have offered free food and weapons without any real substance. Mind you, I am not trying to insult these people. Some of them are awesome and some of them have come up with ingenious ways of securing subscribers. The result is that subscription numbers currently reflect gimmicks, not quality or output.
So, how can writers of substance counteract the giveaway surge?
I believe that the answer to that is so simple that we are looking right at it without even knowing it. The answer is us...through the media.
My proposal is this:
Use your own papers to broadcast the articles you like. If you’re already a writer, provide some links at the bottom of your articles. If you’re trying to figure out what to do with your paper (a question I see more and more frequently), become your own Pony Express. Hell, I’d subscribe to anything that exposed me to new, interesting articles.
Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I’m right. Maybe I just farted – you’ll never know, but whatever you believe, please feel free to contribute in the comment section. I’d love to hear other people’s opinions on the matter. This needs to be fixed, or the only writing we’ll see will be on IRC.
Your loving caveman,
Chutley
P.S. Since I just took a tl;dr break from my usual inanity, I want to take the opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who reads, comments, subscribes, and occasionally shouts on my behalf. I feel lucky to have so many loyal readers who somehow made it to the end of this article.
P.P.S. BAOTUS cabinet members will be announced over the weekend.

Uyarı: Öhöm öhöm. Ciddili konuşucam. Belki bunu Kötü Chutley’in yakın zamanda İyi Chutley’i stertmesine bağlayıp elemanın sesini duyurma çabası olarak yayınlarım.

Let's write the wrongs
You didn't include me! You wound me, sir.
fixed
You didn't include me! kidding 😛 ANyway yeah, it's ridiculous but it's how things work, also I hate you have more subs than me 😛 Anyway love your articles Chutley so Voted
Let me nip this in the bud. There are a ton of newspapers that deserve to be mentioned. I only listed the first 5 that came to mind. I encourage any of you to post a link to your own newspaper if you want.
I see how it is ;_;
(In other words I'm too lazy to post a link nor do I care enough, mainly I like commenting on your article)
To be honest, I largely mentioned it because I wanted to start a chain reaction of people calling for their name to be spoken.
I fully agree with your points, though. I don't think quality really comes into the equation with the media module; if I were to write an article after going aboard to an allied nation with the content as "HAIL[nation]" I'm fairly sure I'd hit a few hundred v/s.
I, for one, will be linking to other quality papers as I write. Thanks for the idea, Chutley, and best of luck in all both of you do.
Read, vote, comment and subscribe, that is all it will take. How many elites have started these same lame articles? When I see one of these authors, taking the time to go through publications daily, I will then begin to believe that are doing more than grand standing.
Yes, I believe that Media is broken right now, and the only way to compensate is to have a chain of writers promoting each other, either in their paper or via shouts.
Hmmm, like a National Literary Guild....

A paper written by a fairly new player(as far as I can tell). It is written excellently, and yet this guy only has 55 subs. That must change.
Vote+Shout
I would seriously think about adding PQ on that list. He never writes anything that isn't book material.
This is a good article, and I believe if we did this it would work!
It's funny, Uhri - I actually had him on there but took him off just because he had so many more subs than everyone else.
I'll also chut bump Bullwinkle's history q's: http://www.erepublik.com/en/newspaper/alpha-mail-253911/1
Chutley I bet you just pissed off 265 people, but if every citizen read these things our media would be great...
I've been alive forever, and I wrote the very first song
I put the words and the melodies together
I am music and I write the songs.
Oh wait, that's Barry Manilow. Never mind.
Great article. Voted hard.
If only more people did like Chutley has done with this. Mention people's paper, get the interested. Just because they have low subscribers & votes doesn't mean they're not good, it just means they;re not well known. Keep it up Chut!
chut cannot into tl;dr
I'm "awesome"... xD
Situation is like that everywhere.
Quality articles are so rare these days and it's so sad... In Serbia, for example, three great and/or popular writers left them game which is huge loss for community.
But who cares, hey, we can get free Q5 food and tanks if we subscribe to some newspapers \o/
Choted.
Good initiative, agree with it and support it 100%
If you'd like more votes and subs, you can always ask for my services, just like Chutley reyiz does;

I already have those papers subbed.
I endorse Cruinne's message

Woooo! Don't forget to check out Civil Anarchy's American Idol!

haklısın reyiz
I like it that people still write quality articles...I get spammed with pm's now even JUST for people wanting me to sub their newspaper...its meaningless, I could care less if I got an MM. I write about whatever comes to my mind at the time, or by request. Please check me out.
http://www.erepublik.com/en/newspaper/the-daily-slice-252217/1
Keep in mind I am not asking for subs, but if you like it, please request more, I love to write...most of the time it never gets seen though. anyway really good article.
Chain shout as well ass subing and shouting and mentioning the other papers
