A Message to All eBelgians

Day 1,644, 08:50 Published in Belgium USA by MaryamQ

Dear eBelgians,

This is an extremely difficult article for me to write, as it involves conflicts among dear friends over the best interest of our eCountry; however, I feel I cannot put it off any longer, as it has been brought to a turning point by the most recent article from our CP, Mittekemuis, regarding the present difficulty our government and Congress are having in maintaining a policy of neutrality, as well as the several articles she links there where the debate has been ongoing.

First, I would like to state my own position on this. I was originally sent to eBelgium on a mission to help maintain neutrality. At that time, this policy was good not only for eBelgians, but also for the major alliances. It was much more difficult to move from country to country, and a well placed neutral country was useful to those who wanted to move to countries they were not allied with. For much of the time since then, even though the difficulty in moving was removed, the policy has continued to serve eBelgium well. There has never been a long-term loss of our regions, and generally both sides in the alliance wars were friendly toward or at least tolerant of us. Recently, however, things have changed in the game, so small neutral countries are increasingly being forced to choose one side or the other. Because of our recent difficulties in getting TEDEN MPPs, I personally voted proONE in the referendum, not because of personal preference, but for pragmatic reasons. However, there was a clear majority for neutrality on that referendum, and I personally feel that we are honor bound to follow that vote.

We have seen a lot of rhetoric back and forth about whether we are really neutral, whether we should be neutral, and what that really means anyway. For some of this, many of us will have to agree to disagree. Yet, it is clear that our population doesn’t want to move toward either ONE or TEDEN at this point in time.

Unfortunately, we have experienced real difficulties in obtaining TEDEN MPPs because we were blacklisted following the recent war with eNL. I will not go into whether that was fair or not, but will point out that our cause has been hurt by the training war in which eHungary used the opportunity to march on eNL. Despite this, several citizens have worked hard to get us removed from the blacklists, and a deal with Brazil and China has been brokered by ThomasRed to sign MPPs for the next month.

In light of these problems and real life stressors, Mittekemuis, who I consider one of my dearest friends in game, has asked me to start an impeachment vote. She tells me she sincerely wants it to pass, and I have asked other members of Congress to respect her wish. Therefore, as soon as this is posted, I will start the vote.

It is my hope that we can move forward from this point, really examining what it is we want and how we want to achieve it. I also want to thank Mittekemuis for her service to eBelgium, and to tell her that I, among many, will always love her for who she is, no matter what happens or what she chooses to do with her future eLife.
