A Failure of the Imagination

A Failure of the Imagination

"Walk into splintered sunlight,
Inch your way through dead dreams to another land.
Maybe you're tired and broken,
Your tongue is twisted with words half spoken and thoughts unclear

What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through?
A box of rain will ease the pain, and love will see you through."

Do you really want to replace that^ with this->

"I got money in my hands that I’d really like to blow
Swag, swag, swag, on you
Chillin' by the fire while we eatin’ fondue"

Yeah, didn't think so...

Hi kids!

Isn't it ironic that the "Maple Leaf Destiny" party, a gang of PTOers grouped around former Canadian CP Addy Lawrence, would choose to make their entrance into eUSA politics by smashing and grabbing the Socialist Freedom Party (SFP)?

Yeah, it is ironic. Not only because people tend to think of Canadians as people with a friendly, affable character, but also because the target of this hostile takeover bid is a party that expresses what could be considered "Canadian" values perhaps moreso than most other parties in the eUSA.

At some level, PTO'ing the SFP is a Canadian assault on Canadian values.

It's also ironic because this group of malcontents is expressing their ambitions wrapped up in a pseudo-uber-American rhetoric, while carrying out an assault on one of eAmerica's treasures: the Socialist Freedom Party.

They say they can't afford to spend 40G to start a new party. And they aren't bothering with the 102 other small parties, just this one.

Friends, this is a shameful act. Not a good way to start a show.

¡No Pasaran!

A Bully State?

Let's make no bones about it. The SFP is not as strong as it once was and, well, it has never been a major party. A dog-eat-dog worldview of social darwinism seems to provide the founding principles for this new Fash movement, so it's not surprising that they would choose to start out by targetting a smaller party.

Beating up on the little guy is so "American", isn't it?

But, whatever. Game mechanics, blah, blah, blah. Sure, I'll get over it. Hell, I'll probably end up liking Addy. I generally have a hard time staying mad at anyone over a silly browser game.

Still, let's play...

Is it any coincidence that this cheapo gang would flee their own country in order to PTO a party that has always stood as a champion of the little guys, the voice of the voiceless and the friend of the philosophes?

The stated goal of these PTOers is to establish the eUSA as a world-dominating power. Reading between the lines, what they seem to want is to change the character of the eUSA to be more along the lines of eSerbia. That is: no more equal concern for our allies; no more support for smaller communities; they intend to take this attitude of beating up whoever you can whenever you can get away with it to a global level.

Smash and grab as much as possible. That seems to be the program. And, jeez Louise, you know, that's a perfectly pragmatic way to play the game, right? No rules against it. If you're into that sort of thing.

It's kinda sad, though, that a group of Canadians would want to start this process by creating a new group of Acadians, that is, by evicting people from their home.

SFP: An American Beauty

Going after the SFP is like going after the soul of America. It's like banning apple pie. It's like trying to serve collard greens with tofu instead of bacon.

The SFP is like a bed of rose petals.

Sure, the SFP may be a viable "target" for a PTO. And shame on the SFP for not being more powerful.

But I'd observe that the SFP is also an obstacle to this kind of "smash and grab" mentality. So I expect that is also part of why it is being targeted.

The SFP is different. Whatever you think of its "socialist freedom" and "anarcho-syndicalist" terminology, check out what this little "mighty mouse" party has brought to the eUSA over the years, and you will see that the SFP is unique community that consistently brings a "special sauce" to the eAmerican palette:

* Persistence. The SFP is the longest-lived small party in the eUSA.

* Training. The friendly milieu around the SFP has generated some of the eUSA's most influential and knowledgeable players, including Rainy Sunday, Civil Anarchy and Jude Connors.

* Innovation. The SFP pioneered both the development of Communes and autonoumous Militias, long before these concepts were commonplace.

* Fighting Back Against Pizza-ism. The SFP's first member of Congress, Robert Bayer, published the original exposé of Ajay Bruno's real-life shenanigans. SFP stalwart Uhriventis (R.I.P.) spearheaded the effort to have Pizza the Hutt banned for multies.

* Pushing the Envelope. The SFP has been home to some of the eUSA's most eloquent, generous, "outside-the-box" and interesting organizers, thinkers and writers, including Robert Bayer, Osmany Ramon, Vincent Nolan, Mark Valshannar, Phoenix Quinn (toot-toot!), Lysander Spooner II, Samuel Seabury and many more.

* Defending the Nation. The SFP Bear Cavalry is the oldest independent militia in the eUSA. From the darkest days of WW2 to pushing the Huns and Poles out of France today, the Bear Cavalry -- sponsored and supported by the SFP -- has always been on the frontlines of national defense.

* Community. The SFP is a welcoming party, providing a political home for members of many political and philosophical persuasions, players of multiple nationalities and a cool, interesting community for both active players and two-clickers.

* Internationalism. The SFP has always stood shoulder-to-shoulder with like-minded players from around the e-world. It has friends and allies everywhere, not of the super-alliance, lets-take-over-the-world type, but of the real, player-to-player type.

* A Real Leftist Presence. People bring their real-life political views into the game; it's normal and natural. The SFP is a friendly place to have discussions on leftist themes without constantly being shouted down by those with opposing viewpoints. It's like having a good table at Scholz's Beer Garden: a fun place to debate the finer points of vulgar vs. bright libertarianism and so forth.

Defend the Socialist Freedom Party

To our Canadian brothers and sisters: Raise your voices. Please tell Addy to man up and go start his own party or takeover one that is not active, like the Pi Party. Assaulting the SFP is a terrible way to get started in American politics.

To eUSA Citizens: This is likely the start of a Rolo-style movement in the eUSA; it's Pizza with a Northern flavor. Your party will be next. Defend your freedoms. (And your spelling! 🙂 )

To our International friends: An injury to one is an injury to all! The "Maple Leaf Destiny" Fash want to wreck your communities too. Just say no to Bieberization.
