Guide to Media Strategy & Article Archetypes

Image Code Troubleshooting
Check the tags surrounding the image link are correct and closed
From my experience the image type must be .jpeg, .gif or .png. Unfortunately .bmp images do not seem to work.
Occasionally strange characters in the image link seem to result in it not appearing in the article. Things like + ? = in a link to an image generally don’t work for me. In this situation your options are to upload the image to a hosting site or use another image.

Tip
The first time you view an article the image is resized to a width of about 550 pixels. But view it again and it’ll be resized to a width of 400px. Splitting the image in two and then using them side by side in an article can ensure that the image is displayed at a large size constantly
(Eg. This article )

Finding images
Google image search : Search for a keyword related to the article or paragraph and you’ll find plenty of useful relevant images to spice up your article.
Step One : Click on one of the thumbnailed results
Step Two : Click “Full sized image” in the right window
Step Three : Use the image link that’s in the address bar.

Erepublik Images
Right click and select “copy image location” (I use firefox so the exact wording may be different) then paste that between the img tags.
Alternatively, click “view image” or its equivalent and copy the url from the address bar.
Useful for : party avatars, newspaper avatars or any other erepublik icons. This method doesn’t kinda doesn’t work with citizen, company or org avatars however. (see section below)
Examples:

citizen / org / company avatars
How to get image link:
1. Go to the citizen / org / company profile
2. Click the company they work in (first under activity)
3. Show Employees
4. Use the usual right click method on avatar (will be 142x142 by default)

You’ll see a url something like this:
http://static.erepublik.com/uploads/avatars/Citizens/2009/04/28/58b43ae56bc2384d3bbded77553b5a1f_142x142.jpg

Sizes
You can choose from a couple of sizes by editing the 142x142 bit at the end of the url. Choose from
55x55, 100x100, 142x142 or remove the _142x142 to see the image in its original size.

Unemployed?
1. Find their profile pic in a comment or friends list and right click method their avatar
OR
2. Get it from their citizen feed through the API
http://api.erepublik.com/v2/feeds/citizen_by_name/xml/[name here]
(avatar-link) the 4th line of the page has the image link
Name must be exactly the same as erep name including any spaces
See above section to resize the image to your suiting

Flags
http://www.erepublik.com/images/flags_png/M/country-name.png
Hyphens (-) must be placed between words. Eg. North-Korea.png

Flag sizes : Edit the bit before the country name and replace it with S, M, L or XL (must be capitals)

Products
http://www.erepublik.com/images/icons/industry/industry number/q1.png
Creates a 45x45 size image of the product.
Add _90x90 to the q1 bit to have a bigger version. (eg. q1_90x90.png)

Change q1 to the quality of your choice up to q5.

Industry number reference below
1: food
2: moving ticket
3: house
4: hospital
5: defence system
14 weapons

Medals
Hard Worker
Congress
President
Media Mogul
Battle Hero
Resistance Hero
Super Soldier
Society Builder

Rank badges
Look at the list of ranks
- Anything with two words use _ between them with no space
- Anything with a star use the number of stars
Eg. http://www.erepublik.com/images/modules/ranks/national_force_2.png

Monuments
http://www.erepublik.com/images/modules/goals/20101004mon1.png
Change month/year for past monuments.
Eg. 20101004mon1.png creates the obelisk reward given on 4th October 2010.

mon1 : shows that months Obelisk
mon2 : shows that months Statue
mon3 : shows that months Archway

Raw Materials :

Change number from 1-10 to change to the rm you wish to display.
Full list easily viewable on a countrys economy page

Missions:
http://www.erepublik.com/images/modules/homepage/missions/18.png
Works from 1 to 18.png ... dunno how much use they are though!

Advertisements (Special thanks to Luminara for this info)
Use the right click method on the image in a citizen ad and you'll get something like:
http://ads.erepublik.com/system/photos/2010/12/162595/small/YCN_title.jpg?1292271617

Remove the ? and all the numbers after .jpg and you can use that url in an article in it's ad sized format as it is above.

Just replace small with the word original to see it's original size.

Forum

Works from icon1 to icon14.. again I dunno how much use they are!

Wiki
Wiki image search
select (file) next to the name and use that address to use image
possibly useful for difficult to find game related images

Images from the net
The right click method can be used on most images on the net. However be aware that some people don’t like this “hotlinking” as it uses up bandwidth which they might have paid for. Occasionally you’ll find that the image you’ll displayed wont be what you intended and instead one voicing disapproving with “hotlinking”. Therefore ideally you should upload the image to a site that will host it for you so that you can link to it. The two recommended hosting sites below both have an option to upload the image by simply having the image url.

Image hosting sites
Use direct link to the image within the image code. Or you could use the forum link, which has the image link within the img code.

www.photobucket.com/ (registration needed to use)
1. Green upload now button [on the top nav bar]
2. Upload from the web url or your computer
3. Save and continue to album
4. Hover over image
5. Click direct link

http://tinypic.com/
1. Browse button -> select file or from URL
2. Upload
3. Complete Capcha

Using Images as Bullet Points
Use images 13 pixels in height or smaller if you don't want the spacing between lines to be affected. Google image search allows you to set specific measurements which can be helpful.
