What started out as an intention to produce one article on the media module has turned out to be a series of articles. Thanks to everyone who voted up Daily Living: Media (Basic)!!!
This next one covers the basics of getting your newspaper up and running from purchasing it to publishing your first article. The codes to manipulate your text are provided along with how to create all the different emoticons which work in erepublik articles. Discover how to add a hit counter to see how many people are looking at your articles, add buttons to erepublik for easier article editing and avoid annoying hiccups

Guide to Media Strategy & Article Archetypes

Buying a newspaper - Official wiki source
Hover over My Places then select Newspaper where you’ve the option to buy one.

What you’ll need to buy/create a newspaper :
2 gold and
be at least level 9 (60xp)

Now you’ll need to :
Name your newspaper. (changeable anytime afterwards)
Between 6 and 30 characters.
Upload an image for your newspaper avatar (changeable anytime afterwards)
Pick something which looks good in a square format. It’ll be resized automatically.

Note: Organisations can purchase newspapers however they do not receive Media Mogul medals for every 1,000 subscribers. You’ll need the paper to be on your citizens account to achieve that award.

Editing your Newspaper Details :
My places -> Newspaper -> Edit Newspaper Details

Here you can:
Edit your newspapers’ name
Edit the description of your newspaper (viewable at top of your newspaper)
Change Location - No longer has any effect (See publishing rule below)
Upload a new Newspaper Logo

Writing articles
My places -> Newspaper -> Write Article

Title : You must include a title to be able to publish an article. This is what people will see when deciding whether or not to click on your article. Try to make this unique and catchy while still relevant to your article content. You can edit it after publishing if you make a mistake or think of a better phrase. It’s common to edit the title to include *Update* to notify people who’ve already read the article of additional content.
Note : If nothing happens when you click publish you may need to shorten your title. The limit is 80 characters, any longer and you cannot publish. You aren’t prevented from exceeding this in the title box however so you’ll have to count manually!

Logged Out : It'll look like you're logged out after you publish your article. You're not, just click refresh or home and everything will be ok 🙂

Codes
eRepublik provides buttons to create bold text and add links that do not work! You can format your text, insert links and images by using some of the codes below. See the Wiki page for a full list of codes. Otherwise check out the eRepublik Advanced section below for a way to add working buttons.

In article becomes : Bold Text
Suggested use: Major headings

In article becomes : Underlined Text
Suggested use: Sub-headings

In article becomes : Italics Text

Auto hyperlinks
If you type a web address (url) in the editor then it automatically becomes a link in the article.
Eg. www.google.com …. it links to google and no codes used by me

If the link is very long or you want the link to say something other than the website address then try:

In article becomes : Text to link
Note :Must be the full address including http://

Eg. of including an image is just up there! ^.^
Note: Image link must be to an image already hosted on the internet in gif, jpeg or png format.
(Article dedicated to images info to come)

The image above is turned into a clickable link with this type of chained code.

Note : All variations of the codes which produce a smiley are shown but only one is used to show the actual smiley. Credit to Gerk for this article where I got the smiley info.

Editing and Deleting
Check underneath the green box with the number of votes for the article when looking at the article on your newspaper. Each of your articles may be edited (blue button) or deleted (red button).

Sometimes you’ll have left a tag of the code open so that when viewing the article you’ll see [b or something similar. Other times you might have forgotten the tag to finish the formatting code so that the formatting extends beyond where you intended. The editing function is useful for these types of fixes and more.
Remember to hit the big blue edit button underneath the editing area when you’re finished making changes so they’ll be saved!

Citizenship Publishing rule : You can only publish in the country of which you are a citizen.
So if you have Irish citizenship your articles show up in the Irish news even if you have moved to another country. Once you change citizenship any further articles will appear in the news section of that country.

Newspapers owned by organisations are outside the scope of the rule. The newspaper will publish in the country where the org is located. So for the price of a moving ticket (or whatever will replace MTs!) you can publish in any country you like, whenever you like. The only downside is that these newspapers cannot achieve media mogul medals.

1. Avoid severe frustration
Write in a word processor first then copy and paste it into erepublik for publishing. This prevents you losing all your work in the event there’s a server error or a bug.
I recommend google docs for the auto-save function and ability to revert to previous versions. It’s also very easy to collaborate with others using it.

2. Preview your article
Re-use an old article for previewing your work. By using an old article it wont be thrust into the news section and you’ll have time to correct any code errors, broken image links or formatting issues before the official release.

3. Broken links
Link not working? It may have a character in the url that upsets erepublik. Instead use a shortened link to the same destination created with tinyurl or a similar link redirection service.

View Counter
Code:
[url=http://www.somokon.com/erep/code.html][img]http://somokon.com/erep/hitcounter.png[/img][/url]

Copy and paste the above code into your article to get a counter like this which tracks the number of times your article has been viewed. View counter created by Michael Collins
Note : Collins can change the image on your page to whatever he likes! Unlikely to occur unless you’re a friend/enemy he wants to mess with though.

eRep Advanced by Roktaal
Adds buttons for easy addition of code for images, links, bold, italics and underlined text within the erepublik article editor.
Preview feature also included but code must be in lowercase and it doesn’t auto hyperlink addresses.
Easy to see how many subscribers you have as it places that info on your articles/newspaper.
Loads of other features unrelated to the media module. Full list [here] or check out the video preview

To use the script above you must first have the Firefox browser and Greasemonkey add-on
