Good Day and welcome to UK Today!

THE NEWS

Greetings and welcome to today’s edition of UK Today.

Left and right are two political concepts that are age-old. They are used to illustrate the differing political ideologies of individuals, parties, and other groups. The two phrases are largely arbitrary and are used to represent a plethora of different positions.

A basic (and simplistic) guideline to how 'left' and 'right' work in the real world

Within eRepublik and the eUK we have our own version of left and right. Looking at the top 5 parties, we (very roughly) have two left-sided parties, two right-sided, and one centre party.

Looking at research done in the real world, we'd expect a pattern of numbers similar to this:

The above image shows a bell-shaped curve, with a mode of people (highest number) in the centre and less people towards the extremes.

We see a similar trend in eRepublic too- with many players centered around the centre (or near to here on either side) and far fewer towards the extremes.

This gives us some interesting space for social interaction and competition. In the forum games area of the eUK forums we're running some left vs right games this week, with both sides competing with some light fun to see which side can come out on top, with the centrists and non-politicals having some fun thwarting both sides.

If that sounds like your cup of tea, feel free to sign up and join in! (There are other games underway there too, you're welcome to join any.)

We have two library articles coming out this weekend- a guide to the 'collections,' of toolboxes and bazookas, and a guide to the eUK Armed forces- the who, the what, and the where- so if you've never been sure about what goes on there before and were afraid to ask, have a read and find out. And don't forget to vote both articles up!

THE CP's UPDATE:
Hello. I'm sure you're aware of this thread by now so I thought I'd start of by reiterating my stance on the issue and apologising for the tone of the message sent out to some of the members of the UKEF. We're aware that for the past couple of weeks the hub activity rules have been relaxed so you might not have been aware of the guidelines behind the actions taken by command this morning. It really should have been a friendly reminder before going back to the normal warning system for inactivity so I'm sorry.

However, you should be checking @orders frequently whenever it's possible because it first of all confirms you have the right battle to hit and also confirms your activity with the hub (which allows command to reward activity). You also have to remember that some of the battles we participate in are also overseas and can be specific RWs which do not show up in your Military campaign list. I know that we're still going to see a bit of resistance from a select few but I hope we can put the drama from today behind us because it just makes us look silly especially if we're arguing over something that should be a minor thing.

Moving onto more nicer things, I hit Mayo last night at a more later time than I had wanted. As I hit at 11pm we were only able to win the first mini battle before losing the next three to the Irish and their night time damage advantage but once it got into morning for some of our allies we were able to win 8-3. The lack of fightback from the Irish is due to the massive amount of attention that TEDEN and ONE are giving the balkan wars at the moment. The big war yesterday was Greece vs Macedonia and I saw 10s of millions hit on each side. You might have noticed I haven't hit Dublin tonight. This is because I've decided to delay it for a day so that we can avoid wasting crucial damage. Macedonia are currently trying to keep China out here and whether or not they can win this battle along with the Saudi RW will determine on how many battles we'll be having directed at our allies in the future.

In other news I had a small chat to a some allies today about a few meetings in the future, nothing serious yet but if there is any information to pass on I'll be sure to tell people. I was also supposed to have a meeting with the new Irish CP today but they canceled last minute. I'm sure they'll want to organize another meeting soon especially if we wipe them over the weekend. 😛

Daily Domestic Update:
- Library article in progress with 75% of it on the MoHA Subforum. This will be released shortly. It's on Bazookas/Toolboxes.
- UK Today released here
- Daily messaging done
- Further discussion into forum awards. More details to come soon but graphics are being made up that are going to be customisable for each person.
- Another Library article is going to be written on Sunday on Army Structure/Supply etc.

You'll be happy to know that reports from ministers will start up tomorrow with a brief outline of what they've each achieved so far along with what they have planned for the week ahead. Speaking of Ministers we've had our first resignation of the term from Mantle. I'd like to thank him for the work he had done already in PD and I hope to find a replacement for him shortly.

I'm expecting jamesw not to be the first comment on this announcement today, since the military was talked about a lot. Lets see how this goes.
